That is a very nice build so far man, looks like you are using Kingstion Hyper X DDR3 1600 there, hmm interesting, is that 12x 2GB? as being not ECC and REg as non buffered memory, most 2CPU systems need ECC ,Reg and Fully Buffered when using Intel based setups :)

yes i am well aware of all the memory restrictions & filling up all slots. thanks.

these are ddr3 2000 - they are 12 x 2gb - cheapest ram i could find for this spec - 24gb for 600$

Thanks for the comments, the cpu's are at 4.3ghz  with a 172blck, 1.365vcore and 1.325 vtt.  I actually went with the HD5770 because of is very low power draw on idle, this machine crunches 24/7 so every bit helps :)

Can't seem to upload attachment pics here, but I have a build log at:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=254113
It's an SR-2 in a PC-P80 case with 16 SSDs, 6 HDDs and three RAID controllers.

Just a teaser pic.. not going with stock cooling on the GPU's they're actually already switched to the waterblocks. More pics coming soon.

*****EDIT*****
No block leaks during out of case testing here's a picture before installing onto the board and into the case:

*****EDIT*****
Quick test fit in the case. Little sloppy the wiring wont be like that and the tubing isn't how it will be when finished but you get the idea:

This is quite someting, I wonder if the CPU's are still creating a bottlenck for them 4-way GF100-375-A3 GPU's, I'm thinking there is alot more CPU power needed to feed these, but on the otherhand this would be nice for a render farm, Cuda would fly on this setup that's one thing for sure.

And what are your plans with this setup? Looks ionteresting as that goes.

I hit both CPU's on a test a few days ago and was able to easily get 4ghz on both. I finally have days off starting tomorrow and can finish the entire project and get some real numbers. Been working so much overtime I'm completely dead when I get home.

I will consider dual 6 core cpu's when all is finished and I max out what these quads can do~

hmm oke, I thought these Xeons could easily be tuned over 5Ghz? ah well Iam sure you will go beyond the 4Ghz , it's a good speed to start off with :)
I suppose it still depends what revision and stepping the die's are like with them i7 920's the D0's clocked better than the C0's I suppose with Xeons this is the same.

What are you going to use this system forbesides benchmarking and gaming?

Are you going to do 3D modelling with it, CAD or other syntehttic CPU and GPU based programs?
Folding@Home oughta do nice on this build or Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition + REXHD REX HD = Real Enviroment Xtreme High Deffinition :)

I would rather not post the cost as the wife may stumble across this thread but most people can do the math.  I am most likely going to sell my gaming rig to try and stuff another SR-2 in this case or sell this case and get the much larger Mountain Mods Extended Ascension case with the soon to be released dual SR-2 Back plate

I will be doing 3d modeling, no folding, lots of gaming and I am working on a massive flight simulator setup :) as for the Xeons being easy to tune over 5ghz no they are not. I'll maybe get there but with extreme measures. Honestly I'm expecting a stable ride around 4.6ghz. I'll likely upgrade to hex cores when I find the max these chips will do~

Re:EVGA Classified SR-2 RIG Picture Posts 2010/06/29 23:28:06 (permalink)
I have a z800, and while the case and layout is nice, the HP motherboard/BIOS combination has no provision for overclocking -- none in the BIOS, and BCLK adjustments in software cause hard lockups as commonly documented for most 5520 based chipset systems.  Also, if you want to do water cooling, there isn't room in the case.  The stock fans are fairly loud, even at the lowest speed setting (in the bios).  If I recall correctly, the system doesn't really have support in the BIOS for memory timings, XMP profiles, etc.

I put another machine together a couple years ago, around a DELL precision 490 case ($75 on ebay).  It's even smaller than the z800 case.  I had to cut out a piece of the case at the back (for the IO panel), and then changed the wiring coming out of the front power button panel to match a standard motherboard.  This is running a supermicro dual socket motherboard with 5400 series chips.  Again, limited overclocking options here (chips have the BSEL mod...).   The supermicro board was better than the DELL board, at least at that time.

Dude, i dont need to over clock it i get 80k cpu score in vantage, its already over kill, as far as watercooling im using HPs stock watercooling kit, it looks like same as corsair  here is a pic

Its works very good, and super clean inside of the case, the only ****ed up problem i ran today is i tried 2 480GTXs in the system and it will not enable SLI!!!!!!!!    I tried all the drivers and older cards like 285 GTX SLI doesnt work!!!
I plug in 2 quadro cards sli worked, HP could of done better job now i hate the sytem!

What I have is the sr-2 motherboard...2 GeForce gtx 480 super clocked.. 2 Xeon X5650 - 2.80 GHz and a mountain mod extended ascension cyo chassis and 21 fans as for memory i'm stumped on which would be great for this set up... but on top of all of this I also have a 2x 128 corsair extreme series and 2 Corsair H50 cpu cooler. But here's the problem i'm wary of water cooling... it will be my first time so is it worth it with such a vast amount of fans? I plan on moving up to 4 graphic cards in the future.... i'm thinking they should at least be water cooled...Any suggestions? I'm loving how Gold Leader has basically the same set up!! Stellar!
