Anyone knows what exactly is triggering this? It's a bit insane that a userspace application can fry a card.

well if the 3090 kingpin and strix is fine then its just that the power delivery is under specd for the power surges ampere generate.(ampere has really high power spike compared to prev arch). well then people will argue, why not all ftw3 are dying? well it depends on Silicon quality, good silicon will pull less voltage/power for the same boost algo nvidea has, so the power spike is a lot less. also ftw3 has a load balancing problem where the pcie power needs to be raised to pull more power through the 8pins(i dont know whether it has changed or not). this is a stupid decision to prevent kingpin bios flashes. thats why xoc bioses dont do anything on ftw3. so if someone had gotten a black screen running new world on their card. try to under volt by a lot as well as underclock and make sure the power spike doesnt go above the bios limit. because the power limit isnt on the vrm controller so if u have an oscilloscope and the bios power limit is 500w u can see that the power shoots up to 600w(depends on set voltage and load). the bios power target does not regulate spikes due to refresh rate(polling) being low. the bios power target polling rate is way slower than the voltage controller. (edit: it looks like it might be ampere problems)

Even if I could get a kingpin it would not fit in my current configuration.

Good points though and likely the only fix is for New World to optimize and revise their game.

Founders edition card is always an option.

just saw jayz new video. what the actual...

had to look and looked at the game again with 3090 bruh

428w dude... there is some really messed up stuff with these cards and this game.

Jay is showing the OSD from Afterburner through Rivatuner.  It is reporting a "normalized % of TDP" which is an adjusted reading that can jump all over the place regardless of setting and not actual power draw that the power limit controls.  You can see the real TDP vs. normalized in HWiNFO.  Furthermore EVGA says X1 is the only accurate way to read card power, HWiNFO and AB read low.

I reflashed my bios and gpu spikes are not as crazy anymore, played new world to see if new patch + vbios reflash "fix" it and i was crashing within 30 mins of playing and now was able to play for 2 + hours with no issues.

either the ninja patched it and continue to blame manufactures or vbios reflash fixed it or GPU crash RNG blessed this day, and made it so can actually play more then 2 steps into the game.

:x

edit: going to do RMA anyways or at least attempt too, card scares me already with Driver failures and it black screens before neworld came around in the first place but black screening and fans going 100% doesn't put my faith in the card one bit.

hopefully everyone who was effected gets a new card with newer rev cause 0.1 seem to be bad.

Hello Guys. Seeing all this madness happening after NW launch, how do I make sure that my card does not have any problems ? it's Evga 3080 XC3 Ultra Gaming. I got the card November 2020.

Do we know what model serials would have updated Bios to address this?

Highly annoying, especially with the idiot behavior of the Nvidia CP taking several minutes to open, and several more each and every time you touch a setting. It can easily be 15 minutes just to turn that one setting back off.

That's not right. It should take less than a minute to do that. I wonder what is causing the control panel to hang for you.

Theres a windows 8/10 flaw in the synchronisation apis used which the nvcp makes use of to communicate with the displaycontainer, this flaw isn't present on Windows 7 where the nvcp continues to open and operate quickly with instant opening of menu drop downs.

There isn't and never will be a bios fix to this hardware flaw.

Not really true. SW has to work around HW defects all the time because it is cheaper and easier to "fix" an issue with SW than redesign the HW.

Since no 6900 XT cards have blown up that might be an option.. I get there's a great warranty here at EVGA but if I have to send my card back a few dozen times before one does not die.. might be better off selling and getting another 6900 XT card.  Considering that the 3080 and 3090 Supers/Tis are like thousands of dollars more on the market..and EVGA Notify seems borked now..

They might be able to adjust the internal rail limits to keep failures from occurring but that would hurt performance by causing the card to power limit earlier.

Theres a windows 8/10 flaw in the synchronisation apis ....

Squall, I already fixed it for him in a separate thread. The problem was that he had Windows Indexing disabled, and as the CP scanned the entire drive for games per-profile (since Indexing was disabled) for each setting change, it bogged the whole thing down.

Not exactly true

I've seen other reports of 6800XT's failing on Reddit as well and a couple 6900XTs that have hard crashed in the game to the point where the computer needed power removed for some period of time before it would boot again, but the reports of AMD cards failing in the game are substantially smaller. That said, I don't know if it is because they fail less (I would bet this is true) or to some degree that there's a small fraction of AMD 6000-series cards out there compared to Nvidia 30-series (I bet also true, but less of a factor here).

Is it only possible to blow the vcore when that fuse is tripped or is that circumstantial?

He reasons the fuse is blown because the Vcore failed.  He theorizes a few reasons as to why the Vcore failed but with a sample size of 1 card it's hard to say for sure.

I don't know if a driver or software patch will fix the issue completely since it appears to be a hardware design issue and manufacturing flaws/defects causing the problem.  Some of the videos about the issue shows that EVGA 3090 FTW3 card behave completely different than MSI 3090 cards and Asus 3090 cards in New World.

Unfortunately, my 3090 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING has just been a casualty of New World, I got my card within a week of release so maybe it will only happen with older cards, just submitted for my RMA, and currently awaiting approval. Does anyone know how long it takes for the RMA approval?

after you talk to customer service and RMA process has started 1-2 business days for them to fully process the RMA request after it has been opened.

I posted this awhile ago but didn't really get an answer but...I have a 3090 kingpin hybrid. Is that okay to play new world on or just don't bother period until we get a good answer from EVGA and Amazon. I thought I read somewhere that KP might be okay but I really don't want to take the risk.

Honestly, it`s better to stay away, this game is like a russian roulette.
Go play something else, instead of taking the risk and not being able to play anything.

u can try. if it did die, then we know no cards are safe. also many cards did die even without running NW. so keep that in mind. also u have evga warranty u should be okay even if it died.

IMHO it is always better to be safe than sorry. It is just a game, no big deal if you wait a little to play it but if you blow your card then your system is completely down until you get a replacement unless you have spare video card laying around.

If you don't want the risk, don't bother playing Amazon's little video card stress test app.

3090's are stupid-expensive.
