just an update on my previous post. I'm the guy that RMA 3 times, and finally the fourth card I get is a rev 1.0 model with black lips instead of the red clown lips. This newer version has finally been stable with new world. I've played for over 24 hours and it still runs fine. I did however undervolt to 90% and limit fps to 60.

I did more research

So based on this I really don’t think doing an rma until the card is dead is worth it. That gotta be a ton of cash you spent shipping and for shipping insurance.

Seems EVGA admitted it was a defect in production and that all .1 cards are at risk.

Sad that they won’t replace with 1.0 cards…

So I need to avoid New World.

I live 20 minutes away from them.  If tehy would allow me to drop it off, I would have.  I did pay shipping and insurance the first RMA which cost me about $80.  The other two RMAs after EVGA covered me.

Played this game for the past week or so, launched today, as soon as I got in game, it crashed my pc and my 3090 now has a red light on the pci-e power. Waiting for a support ticket number so I can submit an RMA.

Aren't you covered by this special action with 0.1 rev and PCI-E slot being messed up with high power draw?
I'm in middle of RMA process myself but I don't really care about this game. I just wanted to have 1.0 Rev card.

not the person you responding to, but the first two rma cards I got were rev 0.1.  At this point, EVGA just needs to just stop sending out 0.1 rev cards back as RMA.

Truth, I won't be happy if I receive back rev 0.1

And.. again why RMAing right now.. would be super pointless and frustrating.  I have 4 more years left on my warranty... I am sort of annoyed though that I will likely need to go through an RMA at some point and likely numerous ones.  It does make me reconsider the brand.  I mean like many of you I have thousands spent with EVGA over the last several years.

Not just 3090s - I posted yesterday that my 3070 FTW3 Ultra was also a victim. The card was only 1 hr old directly from EVGA with no OC.

Can you actually point a reference to the source based on what you give such claims that all .1 cards are at risk? As per my knowledge EVGA has only told that one specific batch had manufacturing defect but the quantity of such cards is small.

I asked support to verify if my card is part of such batch and I was told it is not but nevertheless suggested not to try the game until it has been figured out why so many cards are bricking exactly, I find it doubtful that it is poor manufacturing alone as a reason when different AIBs have same "smoky death" event.
This seems affecting RTX 30 series as a whole, even some AMD cards are supposedly crashing but at least they won't die.

If you guys have version 0.1 cards, PLEASE try "Path of Exile" with Shadows Global Illumination Quality set to Ultra, at max settings and uncapped FPS and see if this also causes cards to fail.
The best resolution to do this at is 1080p. (4k is much worse).

You know.. I am no superfan of Jay however occasionally he says something that makes sense.

Take a look if you have not yet at his recent video on this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxoXbfzP5BU&t=629s

That said if EVGA did an exchange of .1 to 1.0 cards I would be happy to send mine in even before it fails (which I suspect could be with any of the newer games).  However I agree with Jay that this issue is the fault of:  1. Amazon.  2.  Card Manufacturers.

Very bad time for this to start.. I mean people were not spending this kind of coin on GPUs back 5 years ago.

It is not just game developer and video card manufacturer that are involved in displaying draw requests on the screen and culprit can be in one or more of them. However, getting -both- game developer and video card manufacturers to start looking at this -together- would be a good start.

Current cost of video card does make this very painful. But what makes this even more painful is almost complete lack of availability even if money was not an issue.

Make sure you guys stay clear of new world, for another 2 years, or if you're very unlucky, some new game comes out around the 3 year mark and your 3090 dies out of warranty...

It is not just New World. My 3090 FTW3 Ultra gave up the ghost on Thursday and I do not even have that game. Mine was an early card purchased in Nov 2020.

How can you tell what rev card you have? Also, what are the differences between Rev 0.1 and Rev 1.0?

I emailed support about replacing it with a new revision and they said they couldn't do anything till I have issues. So I'm playing it anyways, hopefully I got a lucky batch.

pretty much what they said to me, just don't play the game if it still works with everything else. since my card is not dead they pretty much won't do anything unless its dead and wont turn on anymore.
even then if 0.1 rev are the issue they need to stop shipping them I got a 0.1 replace a dying 0.1 hybrid pump. so its kinda frustrating. I don't think evga things the issue is even the cards. I think EVGA fault for saying there was a manufacturing issue.
now people think their card is apart of the lot.

you take it out and its on the part where the card goes into Pcie slot.

I don't see anything about a rev.  2 places show the serial number, there is a long number that start with AB, the part number, a UPC code, a made in Tiawan listing.  That's about it.

I think New World is slowly killing my 3090. I had no issues playing an entire week but until last night I started getting WHEA errors. Hotspot temps in the high 80s to low 90s when before it was in the 70-80s. I have the FTW3 Ultra but I bought the hybrid cooler for it and swapped out the thermal pads. It's also one of the special RMA cards they sent and got one with black lips. Memory temps in the 80s when before playing Naraka at max settings wouldn't even push the memory temps over 70s.

Not sure what to do, do I go through with the advanced RMA and will EVGA send me extra thermal pads if I email them so that I can put originals back on with the air cooler before sending it back.

Re: EVGA 3090 owners - do NOT play New World game right now as it might kill the card 2021/10/04 22:56:33 (permalink)
A couple of questions.

1) What is this magical small batch of cards affected with the issue? Why there is no official info with starting/ending serial numbers of these cards so owners are aware?
2) Guys trying to exchange their rev 0.1 cards - did you follow instructions from this thread about exchanging your card? https://forums.evga.com/EVGA-GeForce-RTX-3090-FTW3-XOC-BIOS-m3124192.aspx I mean, probably not all 0.1 rev cards are covered by this but if you bought in the late 2020 there is big chance you are eligible. You know, the email to 3090oc@evga.com and all that stuff.
As per their automatic answer in the email:
This offer is ONLY for owners of the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 ULTRA (24G-P5-3987-KR). EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 owners may request a 1-time replacement for the power balance concerns that may allow you to reach a higher power usage when overclocking.*

I have a 3090 FTW3 Ultra 0.1 card that I bought back in Nov of 2020 - I too would LOVE to know if my card is in the affected batch. It seems pretty crazy to me if EVGA knows what the "batch" is, that users haven't been made aware - especially if determining if you're part of that batch is as simple as checking a serial number on a card (assuming that's how you'd identify it). And if they can't tell us, then being able to reliably email in to see if you're part of that batch would be awesome too.

I definitely won't be playing NW until there's some more news on the topic - I'd really like to, but I don't think it's worth risking it.

Well, if you want a surefire way to stress test your card, New World is it. You will know just how good your card is after 20 hours of so of playing. Mine failed that test and is being RMAd.

People waiting or skipping New World, like it's going to fix the problem with their card. Lol, you are fools to think that way. What happens when you run into a game after your warranty that triggers the problem and kills your card out of warranty? Better to find out now, get a replacement, then to find out later and be crap out of luck.
