This game must be life altering or something, for people to be like "welp, let's see if this kills my GPU... obviously I MUST PLAY THIS GAME RIGHT NOW!!! and take whatever chances I have to with my $2000 unobtainable hardware..."

Doesn't all of this mean there is a potential hardware problem with all of these cards? like a design flaw, something power related. Shouldn't there be limitations on how hard these cards can be pushed without a bios being altered? or is that what it's doing?

jayztwocents did show the difference between a MSI 3090 and a evga 3090 the fact is evga doesnt stay near the power set limit no matter what game it plays. Which is very odd what is the point of having a power limit set if it goes 22% over the power limit? Think evga has some issues with this for sure.

because the power % isnt showing what he thinks it's showing.

watch the video and many different times you'll see values ranging from 300W-400W all showing the same ~100%.

so 300W is 100% and 400W is also 100%? right.

it's most likely getting that % value from looking at the pcie slot power vs pcie slot power limit.

Clearly this isnt how the power limit works if you set it to 102% it shouldnt goto 120% period. I have a msi 3090 and a evga and I can confirm they do not act the same when setting a power limit it stays at the power limit it doesnt go over it. If the bios has a limit of 102% instead of 100% it shouldnt go over that.

I wonder how accurate the read outs even are though

AB is reporting Normalized Percent TDP, which always reads high.

Is there anyone here that owns a rev 1.0 FTW3 3090 that got bricked by this game? or it's only the rev 0.1 cards?

How do you see which revision is your card?

 it says on the card

I also want to point out that even if EVGA replace the cards, we are still spending extra money because of this hardware issue. In my case I had to pay $160 CAD for UPS to ship and then got hammered for the cross shipping exchange rate fee on my credit card $130 CAD. Total $290 CAD for my warranty....

This is ridiculous, EVGA please just admit you messed up and make things right....

I got a good laugh out of 'premium' and 'quality' being used to describe anything from Asus.

Asus 3080/90 have all MLCC, vs eVGA of only 2 MLCCs... Lol

Well the crashes aren't normal. The fans go at 100% and the PC stays on so god knows what heat damage has been done. Just because I managed to play around and get mine to boot it doesn't mean there's no long term heat damage or a flaw in the design. My PC wouldn't boot after I finally got it to boot by selecting the alt bios on my motherboard. When it loaded in to windows the screen was flickering like crazy, I managed to fix by re installing the normal BIOS (was on the 450w one previously) so I'm effectively running it on reduced load.

Pretty sure I can kill the card if I go back to the 450w bios and play new world uncapped if that's what you're suggesting?

Okay, when something is going on and the card is about to die, crashing IS normal.
This is the card protecting itself.
Is it desirable behavior?
If you're trying to game?  No.
If you're trying to preserve your card?  YES!

The problem is, these sort of protections have a limited shelf life.
You can only over-current so many times before bad stuff REALLY starts to happen to the device.

So, do you prefer a card that crashes?
Or a card that dies?

Are those my only 2 options? A £2k card that's dead or a £2k card that over currents and will die in the future??

How about swapping my rev 0.1 that will die for a rev 1.0 that doesn't. I gave this company £2k at the end of the day, it's quite a lot of money for it to have a known defect that could kill it at any time.

Afraid of bricking my 3090 Kingpin. Any news of it effecting them?
I notice 60-70'c reported on Mem on my Kingpin. Playing at 4k, frames locked at 118.
Is there a revision I should check for? Is it just FTW's power delivery, or does the kingpin 3090 have the same fuses.

EVGA has seen 30 RMA requests in the past few days for broken RTX 3090 video cards after playing the New World game. EVGA has not yet been able to reproduce the issue itself, as the scenario in which the issues occurred is no longer available since the patch released. Next week, the manufacturer expects to receive the first defective cards and to be able to analyze them in order to determine the technical cause of the hardware failure EVGA awaits the PCB analysis of defective cards. Affected consumers can expect prompt processing of the RMA requests a spokesperson assures. The bricked video cards are covered by the warranty and will be exchanged for new ones.

Well hell.  Pulled my card to see what the Rev # was, and I have an 0.1.

Wonder if they'll let me do a preemtive RMA...

Guess it's a good thing I kept my 950 cards.  I may need them.

by looking at the pic above - im assuming an induction coil blew
it's that or a liquid capacitor

if thats the case it may be due to dirty power at high loads
coil whine is indications of dirty power trying to smooth out the incoming power
caps inline pass AC thru them - coils block or try to

for a coil to go - would also mean overpower

too early to speculate
definitely with that pic it's not the problem from before

I reproduced the issue in another game and also its still not "patched" in NewWorld cause (i dont know for sure) it isn't a issue in the game. Shared this also few month ago.
RTX3080 FTW3 Ultra - Tested with all VBios Versions.

Anno 1800 - frames limited at 60 FPS
Watch the Fan1 speed as soon as i open the tooltip of the building at 0:07. For a few seconds, the fan will spin between 0-100% RPM and shows strange HWM values. I have to press "ESC" right away or the PC turns off and i have to pull the plug to get it start again.
drive.google.com/file/d/1BY28q8CUeLmkP9Qvi8uCvNkSFRW9rkOG/view
youtu.be/r1tyysDvyhQ

NewWorld (with patch) - frames not limited (between 50-70 FPS in this situation)
At 0:17 the Fan1 shows a broken HWM value and again changes wild between 0-100% RPM IRL
drive.google.com/file/d/11WEU06A0DKv9r7vAVTfS_NZGuKNdxAF7/view
youtu.be/ziLXM4JnAgY

If i would force it and change for example my settings to medium and search for the right spot in the game, the pc would turn off and i guess maybe brick my 3080. It doenst matter if i would limit my fps, i saw this behave with frames limited at 60-100 FPS in very rare situations. Like in the video before, it happens sometimes also at 60 FPS and the GPU will shut down the PC.
The only thing i figured out to "fix" this, is changing the powertarget from 100% to 50-60%. Also, manual settings like custom fancurve or fixed RPM value will get ignored by 1 or 2 fans (mostly not the shown iCUE fan) as soon the "issue" shows up.
I think this issue was very rare until NewWorld showed up (where it can happen more often) and no one noticed this until now. I always monitor temp and a few other values and never saw a problem, only the strange fan behavior does't look normal to me right before the PC turns off.

Just a thought.

I just bought an RTX 3080ti FTW3 that I have not unpacked yet and due to the lack of information, I am going to return it to the seller and change to another brand.

EVGA should clarify the affected models as soon as possible, otherwise people will not buy any of its products because no one wants to play lottery with a so expensive product.

I participate in several forums in Spain and at this moment, the recommendation is clear: Stay away from the EVGA 3000 series cards if you have other options.

I hope they make a statement soon to reassure their current customers and potential buyers.

Basically almost all his cards are EVGA, i'm sure it's not because he loves the brand. But many other YTubers have way too much EVGA's /s

That probably explains why none of them covers this, especially GamersNexus, i was expecting a series of videos about crappy explosive FTW like he did against so many brands. Everybody loves EVGA money i guess.

Looks like the fuse unless I'm looking in the wrong place?  Or maybe there's another very small component there also.  I only know enough about EE to be dangerous.  LOL

One of the 20A fuses blew but the damage around it must have taken some serious loads to do.  Its one of the 3 PCIe power connector inputs, I'd guess #2 since that runs hot on all FTW3 cards.

Not much else around it to cause that damage though.  Seems kinda odd.  Almost looks like the fuse did exactly what it's supposed to prevent (crater the PCB).

don't accept nothing less then a complete redesign of the cards, or you'll just be RMA'ing cards until the warranty expires.

My EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming got killed this morning by new world. (after the patch)

I am a big fan of EVGA products but this has to be a design issue. I have no idea what to do, becaus i´m afraid of getting a RMA cycle nightmare.

which revision is your card? 0.1 or 1.0? What does the serial number start with?

I have a brand new in box 3090 FTW3 and I'm thinking about returning it (black lip, rev 1.0, 2114) since it's still within Microcenter's return period. I don't want to risk RMA'ing this card in a continuous cycle either. Especially considering that most people are getting refurbed cards (and some of those are still problematic).

the same crappy article posted again.

EVGA says they are RMA-ing cards. nothing more.

Jay's comments about them cross-shipping is hearsay and being blown out of proportion. there is no evidence that they are doing this. and I haven't seen a single person confirm who RMA'd their card that they are.

I was bricked by New World on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, EVGA accepted my RMA. They called me back later on and said they would be shipping me a new card immediately (cross-shipped!).
I got the new card on Friday, and couldn't get it to work (No Signal on my monitor). I posted a thread on these forums, and someone helped me figure out that I needed to reset my CMOS on the motherboard (see my post about Troubleshooting on the front page).

How much collateral did you pay?

My EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming got killed this morning by new world. (after the patch)

I am a big fan of EVGA products but this has to be a design issue. I have no idea what to do, becaus i´m afraid of getting a RMA cycle nightmare.

Honestly if you can, ask for a refund. And buy an Asus 3090. On RMA you will pay a couple of extra hundred of dollars on shipping, plus the collateral plus you'll get a refurbished graphics card. You'll get someone else's 3090 that got bricked and fixed by evga. Or you think evga has a secret reserved stock of brand new 3090s just to do RMA? With the stock shortage 100% sure you'll get a refurbished 3090 painted to look new.

Sell your EVGA 3090 and then cough up a few hundred more for a ASUS or MSI, 3090.... Save yourself the hassle of future RMAs,

i would also go for a refund, at least until they acknowledge the problem and go for a full redesign of the PCB, or you'll just enter the RMA loop until the warranty expires

Especially given after a couple rma you will be out more than you would have spent on a strix. And that doesn't account any value for your time.

Looks like evga has closed the book on this one too. "Oh it's the games fault we are rmaing the bad cards. Nothing to see here no reason this happens to our cards across multiple games. It's a mystery I say!"
