rjohnson11 The speed of delivering the patch to the public is extremely noteworthy.
If you are referring to the "FPS menu limit" patch, not really. They have tons of other issues that have existed since alpha that haven't been fixed. Also, people's cards weren't dying in the menu, they were (and still are) dying in game. Post-patch someone tested the game, card took a dump.

It was in the video, at the 7:45 mark. but it's not smoke from the card. it's smoke from the thermistor/thermocouple he tried putting on the back of the card that was hot. the heat burned the temp probe, or he caused some kind of short that burned the probe but didn't damage the card.

Looking for some advice. I have a 3090 ftw3 ultra that I added a hybrid kit to. I had 2 crashes in the menu on day 1 but managed to salvage my card, however it had the same 100% fan speed and black monitor crash on day 2 in game. It's currently working on other games and benchmark software fine. However I worry that it has long term damage and I could be on borrowed time. Would EVGA RMA my card even though it's currently booting to windows and running other games fine? Also will I be able to wait until I obtain a replacement card (maybe a month) so I can still use my PC, or do you think the RMA for New world related issues will be a limited time offer? Will I have to pay for shipping from the UK to US?

The crashes are normal. They mean that the card is doing what its supposed to which is protect itself. The problem that people have is that in a lot of these cases, the card isn't protecting itself and is dying instead.

Well the crashes aren't normal. The fans go at 100% and the PC stays on so god knows what heat damage has been done. Just because I managed to play around and get mine to boot it doesn't mean there's no long term heat damage or a flaw in the design. My PC wouldn't boot after I finally got it to boot by selecting the alt bios on my motherboard. When it loaded in to windows the screen was flickering like crazy, I managed to fix by re installing the normal BIOS (was on the 450w one previously) so I'm effectively running it on reduced load. Pretty sure I can kill the card if I go back to the 450w bios and play new world uncapped if that's what you're suggesting?

In my experience, the crashes will get progressively worse until it dies. The card that died on me took over a month since the first crash to fully fail. The last hour, it crashed three times and kaput. It really sucks, but if you want to RMA it, just keep playing New World and it will die in no time. My replacement card has been solid though. However, I'm not going near New World myself until things get figured out.

So even though it crashed and failed to boot I still can't RMA it? You think I should re install 450w BIOS and completely fry it? I'd prefer to buy a new GPU and have it ready than have it die in 3 months time and not have a spare GPU ready.

I don't know, but it wouldn't hurt to ask and open a ticket. I opened an RMA ticket before it died, but by the time they replied with generic troubleshooting tips, it permanently failed.

Is New World worth the risk? Are folks enjoying it? I doubt my laptop can play it, but if/when I can complete my rig, it was one of the games on my radar (concern about Amazon's long term support of gaming, notwithstanding)....

All that "article" did was parrot, badly, what was mentioned in EVGA's stream. It's such a poorly written dumpster fire that I didn't even quote it. There has been no 'announcement' regarding replacements as yet.

Xavier Zepherious yes they did, if you watched them on twitch https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1094862324
again, all they said was that the cards are covered under their standard warranty, which is NOT news or any kind of announcement that they are acknowledging a problem with the cards. EVGA is bound by their warranty terms as long as it's not physical damage. listen carefully to the words used. they are carefuly chosen to avoid admitting fault. spoken like a true marketing/PR person. the kind of announcement that people want, is a comment on WHY this card specifically was so heavily affected by this. and that is a comment they will NEVER make.

8thWonder Looking for some advice.
What you're experiencing is OCP (over current protection) on one of the VRM. Your card is facing the second to last protection to save the core from frying. The last protection are fuses. When a fuses blow you can't use your card anymore but it will be fixable. Also fuses are pretty slow compared to OCP so even if a fuses blows maybe the core also get fried before the fuses reacts. The main question is what's triggering OCP, there are tons of measures before OCP happens, the most common is power throttling. Are you using a customized vBIOS or something shady?

I thought I would write here and say New World Beta did make my 3090 fail. I made a RMA and shipped it out with Standard Warranty and now just waiting for them to receive and ship me a replacement.

atfrico EVGA made the announcement to replace all its fried 3090 by New World game

This is NOT an announcement from EVGA. There is no such press release on their website, or mention of this on their official channels.
This is an EVGA spokesperson claiming they will honor their existing warranty for failed cards, nothing more.

another crappy article using the same quote as the other one. apparently EVGA saying "yes, we will honor warranty claims for cards that meet the warranty terms" is grounds for claiming EVGA is "stepping up" LMAO. it's them doing what they are required to do based on their own warranty terms. nothing more.

Ok thanks. This is the bios I was using: 3898_Normal_450w posted by which is the BIOS that is for FTW3 ultra cards that were converted to Hybrid cards with the kit. I had zero overclocks on the core clock, memory clock, or voltage. Power target was still at 100% and Temp target 83C. So I really wasn't pushing the performance of the card, and as I have a hybrid kit installed temps shouldn't be an issue. My PSU is an EVGA 1000 P2

there are several people in this thread that had this failure. so can anyone confirm that EVGA is cross-shipping you a replacement card without needing collateral? I suspect Jay misinterpreted that line from his EVGA rep. "replacement cards are going out to customers" can be interpreted many ways without context or clarification.
