Hello,
I have a few new generic Dell 7820 Workstations that will be having GTX GeForce 1070 SC graphics cards installed. PC #1 has card #1 already installed (I should mention, I didn't do this installation and note sure who did). This PC works as it should. Here's the problem:
  • I started setting up PC #2 with card #2 and I get no signal to the display port and the desktop does not boot up. It's as if it goes into a standby or power save mode. The PC fans will all be running with no lights on, and the graphics card will have its lights on, but no fan activity. Also no beeping sounds.
  • So I tried another brand new card #3 in PC #2 and got the same results.
  • I then tried another brand new PC #3 with card #2, and again with card #3, still same results.
  • Next I tried the known-good card #1 inside of PC #2 and got the same results. Also trying card #2 inside of the known-good PC #1. Still same results.
I made sure everything was seated correctly, the proper pins from the power supply were plugged into the card also. I'll also mention that the power supply is a 950W. I also tried to see if anything needed to be specially configured in the BIOS, everything was identical to the known-good PC #1. I'm not sure what else I can to troubleshoot this issue. Any other ideas?

Let me know if I left anything out or you need more information.

Are all the vbios versions the same across all the cards?

Welcome to the EVGA Forums

Did PC #1 go back to working After you put GPU #1 back in ?

Do All of the PCs have the same BIOS version in the MB ?

Are all the MB the same exact model & revision number ?

Hmm, believe the bios versions are all the same for the PCs, but I will double check.

Yes PC #1 went back to working when I put the card #1 back in.

I am going to double check the bios versions for all the PCs.

And yes, the MBs are all the same models and revision numbers.

What Monitor ?

Can you use HDMI and see if you can see the BIOS screens in the PC

What GPU was originally in the "work stations" ?

What OS & is it a New install of the OS ?

I'll try. Maybe the screen will actually come up. Since I've only been using a display port.

And it originally had a Radeon™ Pro WX 2100, 2GB, FH, 3 mP (7X20T).

It's Win10 straight from Dell. No new OS installed.

You use to have to use "special tools" to remove Radeon drivers

Did you Run DDU ?

Intel CPU based MB ?

And it was a Dell monitor by the way.

No I didn't run DDU, I'll try that!

And yes Intel Xeon Silver 4208 2.1GHz, 3.2GHz Turbo, 8C, 9.6GT/s 2UPI, 11MB Cache, HT

DP 1.3 / 1.4 monitor could blank screens on boot until the OS loads or Hang on Boot

RE:  NVIDIA Graphics Firmware Update Tool.

Without the update, systems that are connected to a DisplayPort 1.3 / 1.4 monitor could experience blank screens on boot until the operating system loads, or could experience a hang on boot

NVIDIA has created a downloadable tool which will detect whether the firmware update is needed, and if needed, give the user the option to update it.

This update only applies to the graphics cards listed.
For desktop systems, please follow the link below to download the NVIDIA Graphics Firmware Update Tool.

This is so helpful! I will try this tomorrow. And give you an update of what happens!

But question, how is this tool going to detect the firmware if the only way I can use the computer and see the screen is going back to using the Radeon card? Or does this only have to do with the actual firmware of the PC itself?

To expand on my first reply...

You can use GPU-Z to check the vbios versions of all the GPU's. You'll need to run all the GPU's in a system that can successfully run all of them without issues to check the current vbios versions installed on the cards.

You could also look at the back of the card (you may need to remove a backplate if installed), and check the vbios sticker to see if they all match, but again that doesn't tell you the current versions the cards currently have loaded to them it will only tell you what they are suppose to have loaded to them from the factory.

I plugged in an HDMI cord, I finally got a good boot up and I was able to run the firmware update tool and it did need the update. After the update, the DP works perfectly!
Thanks for all your help!
