The fine print from your link, answers your question

Without the update, systems that are connected to a DisplayPort 1.3 / 1.4 monitor could experience blank screens on boot until the operating system loads, or could experience a hang on boot.

NVIDIA has created a downloadable tool which will detect whether the firmware update is needed, and if needed, give the user the option to update it.

This update only applies to the graphics cards listed above. For desktop systems, please follow the link below to download the NVIDIA Graphics Firmware Update Tool.

I did this update last night and *voila * - I can actually see the Bios load screen & splash logo  at boot now while using a displayport cable.
Can't believe it took nvidia or MS this long to figure it out and fix it.

*update went pretty quick , requires a restart and I haven't seen anything adverse side-effect , yet ....

It does not change clocks or the BIOS version. It's similar to a microcode update for a CPU.  The update was to improve compatibility and features for DP.

I never did have any black screen issue's, but I ran this tool and it did show the update was needed on my GPU.  Good to go now I guess...

What if it breaks, it's likely not reversible either.
And I wonder if it could introduce problems with G-sync, either on new or the old DP standards.

I'm currently not seeing the point of updating either since my main monitor is on DP1.2 and the 2nd is on DVI-D.
I'm not seeing my main DP1.2 screen show POST/Bios but it displays on DVI-D monitor until Windows is loaded.

The same happened with the old 780Ti in this system, and also happens with the 780Ti in another system where it only displays on the 2nd DVI-I to VGA display while keeping the DVI-D monitor blank.

I believe it will only stop doing that unplugging the 2nd monitor.
FYI the other system runs a P6T Deluxe V1, neither systems have an UEFI installed OS but the P6T doesn't support that anyway.

I have a Dell 1440p 144hz G-Sync monitor and I would occasionally get the black screen on boot-up issue so I welcome this update. Besides this is a free update to our cards DP capabilities and I like free updates.:) So far I'm not noticing any negatives after updating and my G-Sync is working perfectly. That said there are always risks in doing any kind of bios/firmware flash so like Sajin said, "If it ain't broke don't fix it";)

This firmware cannot introduce issues with Gsync, or any technology activated by the windows driver.

the updated GOP table only fixes and enables the UEFI GOP driver to work with BFG monitors, and the gop driver is completely unloaded once the windows driver has.

I just updated this and now my EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING Black Edition does not go into boost at all.

Edit: Hitting boost clocks now, FPS is still trash in games.  Used to max out War Thunder with 75fps, now I am getting ~40-45.

Edit 2:  If I change res to 1080p my FPS is maxed out again, if I run at 2560x1080 I get 40-45, before using this update I was getting 75 (max refresh).

Edit 3:  So my custom resolution 2560x1080 @ 75hz no longer gets stable FPS which I find strange, the monitor supports freesync and can be "OCed" in Nvidia panel, it worked fine before this fix.  2560x1080 @ 60hz runs maxed out in War Thunder all day long but once it's 75hz my FPS is in the trash.

    Hi,
Thanks it still would be nice if we could get an official response from evga that they are testing these changes :)
Slave bios is already pretty bad as it is not sure i want to mess with master bios since I have no functional slave to fall back on.

No, the fact is nothing has been changed that would require vendor testing.  Users having issues are probably making use of an overclocking software that should be clean installed after having applied this patch so that cached card data is not causing an issue with the device.

Heh Heh, yes, I tend to agree. But after many years of reading posts, mainly in NV forum (differnt name there) I don't recall a single time he was wrong. I never brush off his comments.
He is not particularly popular at NV due to short, to the point comments (which are correct.) Niceties play no role in his life. Facts all the way.
I consider him an expert. But he would be an awful teacher. That requires a wee bit of patience, and even a bit of hand holding at first for complex issues. I wonder if he knows about these concepts? Regardless, the outcome is the same post format. State the fact in as few words as possible (he is correct) but, no comments about why it's as it is. *(Usually, the post above is actually offers a proper reason)
So, I value his posts always. But if I don't understand underlying reasons, I check myself. Still, glad he is here.

Every human is prone to err. I proved him wrong, on this forum, regarding an NVIDIA driver implementation, a little more than a month ago.

I agree that ideally this NVIDIA update tool should create no change/issue. But, after reading his explanation about how the update is executed, it is clear that a mistake/bug in the update process could easily cause unwanted side effects. If you think that the tool created an unwanted side effect, I would recommend that you contact EVGA directly regarding how to flash your BIOS back to its previous state.
