I ran the update on mine and it said that my 1080 needed it but now when I reboot windows, it tells me that the driver failed to load and windows was using its own basic display driver instead.  Did a safe mode DDU and reinstallation of 397.93 and windows 10 still tells me that the driver failed to load.
 
Edit.. when I go to the device manager and look at the driver details, about half the listed files are in the Nvidia Corp folder, so it seems that it is using at least some of the driver files I installed.

Downloaded NVFlash.  Where do I get firmware files?
 
edit... Hmmm the GUI isn't neanderthal friendly.  Might have to look up a how-to.
 
Edit2.. Found the walk-thru and did a trial run.  Just need a firmware file.

ok, thanks.  I'll get with evga.  I don't need an expensive brick.

I am the kind of person who would fix it now since if I didn’t I would run into the problem
In the future maybe after the graphics card gets passed to my parents or friend and have to look into why it’s got a problem and spend a bit trying to track down the fix.

Updated 1080TI FTW, it is just FW, BIOS stays the same as you have, OEM or not.
No issues so far.

Just a quick heads up if your running DP v1.2 you can do this update without any of the work arounds. Everything else applies if your connected to a DisplayPort 1.3 / 1.4 monitor. I'm future proof for DP and 1.4 Monitors with my EVGA 1080 Ti's now.

"If you are ---> currently experiencing a blank screen or hang on boot" ---> "with a DP 1.3 or 1.4 monitor"

That is when the "extra steps" ---> workarounds are required ---> in order to run the tool, (so you can see the display to follow the steps)

I am starting to see reports on some gaming forums I subscribe to, of a fairly recent firmware update for Nvidia cards.

What interests me in this is I am seeing some reports come in reporting a nice improvement in performance in VR. Not because I am having any issues.
 
Of course I have the EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 Elite card, so my question is does EVGA plan on releasing a firmware update for their custom cards based off of this?

From what I understand this is not an evga (or any other manufacturer) specific update, it's Nvidia firmware for their hardware.
So, install the updater software (you've looked above) and run it. It will decide if your GPU needs the update.

I've done mine, the FTW3. And as far as I can tell made no difference, but I don't suppose it will unless you have the effected display port versions.

Ok thanks, I was concerned it might mess up my fan controls for my FTW3 but sounds like it does not.
If I get brave I will give it a try lol.

It's a very specific update, only concerned with display port, so doesn't have anything do with other aspects, unless Nvidia are being stealthy about something.

Yeah that is what I am reading as well, although there are others reporting increased VR performance ( Rift connects via HDMI).
So I am really not sure, may wait to hear more reports before trying this.

I own a GTX 1080 FTW and upgraded my system with a new mainboard (ASUS ROG Strix Z690-A with 12900K) and now I'm having this issue. Already performed the Nvidia-Update but nothing changed, still black screen during boot (no BIOS showing) until Windows is booted. With my old board (ASUS ROG Strix Z490-F and 10700K) it worked fine, had BIOS screen without Nvidia Update. Might this be a new problem with newer BIOS versions? Any suggestions or solutions? Other people having similar problems?

I would contact EVGA to see if they can help with a different bios. If the bios updated recently you might want to see if the DP cable is certified as that can always cause issues also since a lot of lesser quality cables can be sources for the monitor getting the signal.

Finally could solve my problem by installing the Nvidia Update a second time . Maybe the EVGA BIOS update has overwritten the previous changes from the first time updating with the Nvidia Tool.
