dmann304Is the chip still good in 24?  I just wanna max out my dark x299 system.  And not seeing a reason
to bother with 14gen right now. I heard with these XE's if you get latency down, and good 24 7 oc with mesh, you
got a solid system.

TBH I wouldn't know nor am I able to give educated guess as I haven't looked into them (for what I do 10980XE wouldn't buy me enough gain in performance to justify cost and effort). Not to mention that everybody's workload type is different so only you know where your bottlenecks are. You have to ask yourself is it worth the effort and money to you. I know you keep bringing up Cinebench, Aida, and other benchmark numbers but which real world apps you exactly use your system for majority of the time?

That is so true, for daily use, these benchmark apps mean nothing. And i get very good
results even from the 10920, but the 10980XE will do that and at 18 cores.  The real
reason i don't drop coin on new parts, is i like the angle 24 pin EVGA has, and their Z790's
are super hard to get, and my OS, windows 11, is very solid.

Benchmarks have their purpose in the world as long as one uses them appropriately because they can easily mislead. Are you really sure that 10980XE will do everything 10920X does with just more cores? In order for that to be true all of the following would have to be satisfied:

a) every core would have to run at no less than same multiplier as your 10920X runs at, and
b) your applications would have to scale up nicely with more cores, and
c) you would have to not exceed TJmax for 10980XE.

With TJmax for 10980XE being 8C lower than for 10920X it would be very hard to meet all that. So you have to think very hard and be really sure you would get benefit before tearing apart system that is already very solid and starting all over again from scratch.

Why does Jayz2Cents use 105c on his XE? and he got 47x on his at 1.17v and custom
loop. Steve says this CPU will hit 49x doable at 1.25v soso.  The CPU i got coming hasn't
been OCed preserving the OC's for me.  I think 86c is Intel Spec, but most of the guys
pushing this silicon all use 105c Tjmax.  5Ghz max temp of 86c in tile rendering. Games
most 60c. So i hope to have fun with this setup.

dmann304Why does Jayz2Cents use 105c on his XE?

For same reason car guys try to push more horsepower through engine that is built for less: Because there is nothing preventing them from trying. Will they be able to at all and what that will do to an engine (how long it will run before it blows up and how reliable it will be in the meantime) is a different story (why is it that everytime I watch another Jayz's video it is about something that broke?).

None the less I hope you end up very happy with it. All I am trying to say is that personally I would think very hard how much real world benefit I would truly get out of the effort.

Agreed, just get the most of this platform.  Intel doesn't really focus on HEDT, but X299 is more then plenty
for i do, and Its Really EVGA's last hura.  And it looks pretty with those nice quad channel memory modules.

dmann304... but X299 is more then plenty for what I do ...

That is what I am trying to suggest, that you will have to ask yourself is 10920X already plenty for what you do / how much you would get from 10980XE / is CPU your bottleneck or something else. For example, check this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3JRKhEu0SI

BTW, which applications, games, etc. you use on a regular basis that you are not happy with on 10920X? And which video card you have?

Im happy with it, just got a good deal on the XE version. And wanted to cap off the Dark to its best offerings.  And most games are
Top FPS games, web surf, tinkere with 3dmark, R23, Aida64, to name a few.

I do like the memory bandwidth, and stability of X299, and with the XE, and a 3080ti evga ftw, i am golden for another
few years.  I held on to X58 for 9 years, and ruled upto 2018, when i dropped coin the EVGA X299 Dark which is their
best offering to date.

Agreed. @dmann304: It will be cool to see you share your experiences with 10980XE in thread of its own once you put it in.

Got cpu, and seems to run the same temp wise as the 10920x at 4800, but when running aida 64
memory tests, good latency, but system restarted when running L3 cache tests, thinking it might
be the mesh, so to keep on topic, is 1.29v safe for daily use?  temps aren't out of control, idle 42c
load 83c which is same as previous cpu? at 32 mesh btw.

We seem to be going back and forth. I think your 10980XE deserves its own thread.
