Flint 1760 For some of us, gaming is tertiary in what we require from a monitor. I'm using a 32 inch 4k BenQ monitor and my primary consideration when I bought it, was for photo editing. Therefore I look at color gamut, temperature, clarity, etc, and ease of calibration (as if the words "ease" and "calibration" ever go together in this context). It does all my other tasks just fine and I do game on it periodically.
kevinc313 My primary display is currently a 65" LG Nano 90 (4K 120 hz VRR). I used to run a 120" projector full time and have a 43" 4K at my home desk.
tsbond I do it every day with 3080. Not sure why people think you can't. You don't need 100+fps to have a beautiful gaming time. 4k 120hz ultra whatever on 48inch.
Hey, these guys gets it lol I'm glad I'm not the only one.

crazyjohnny I think that most people upgrade their GPU every 2 generations, but that's not a general rule. It all comes down to what you currently expect from e video card. If you your 2070 Super performs according to your gaming demands, why not keep it? However, I am skeptic about the overall generational leap between 3000 and 4000 series. I predict the next line up will cost more at a lower performance leap as the previous gen. I regret not upgrading to a 2070 when I had the chance, I believed it would be bottlenecked by my CPU and have a 970 in my case. If I were in your place, I think I would upgrade to a 3080 for futureproof, unless money would play an important part. In that case I would stick to the 2070. Good luck!
Thanks. I was considering upgrading to the 3080 last 2020 fall, but at that time I was still using a 3440x1440 144hz monitor, which was enough for the 2070 Super. (I was getting 110+ FPS with optimized settings for my games) However now, I'm using a 3840x1600 monitor which is slightly more demanding for my 2070 Super, but it's not as tortuous as 4K. I believe the 3080 is that solution. I currently have the budget for a 3080, so I made this thread to see what others think, whether it's better to wait or buy now since the 3080 seems to be a great price/performance gpu for the next 2-3 years. The 4000 series is basically big foot as of this time of the post. So yes, I'm getting a 3080 when I get the chance.

if you wait for 40 series, you are looking at 2024. even if Nvidia does release in 2023, no guarantee you will find it. With that logic, you will be waiting for 50 series :)

Yikes. Hopefully the 4080 draws less, reasonable power.

I got lucky with a 3070 that's not EVGA, I really want an EVGA 3080 or 3080 Ti. And if I do get one, I'll keep it for a while and use my 3070 on another lower end PC that I'm working on.

I've seen that and it's all speculation at this point. And I am not thrilled with a significative increase in power consumption for an extra performance. One thing is for sure, that the next series will cost way more. They seen how much people are willing to pay for it and they are not stupid to not incentivize on this. If we manage to get a model from the current series close to MSRP it would be ideal, in order to skip the over priced 4000 series, for those who don't upgrade at every new series.

Waiting till September 2022 for a 4000 series is a longgg time even if everything was going smoothly. Id imagine the date will be pushed much further. Who knows what the future holds?
