New Updates for X299 Motherboards today:

BIOS 1.23 (E299 Dark) / 1.23 (E297 FTW K) / 1.16 (E296 Micro ATX 2) /1.24 (E295 Micro) Updates

  • Adds "PCIe SSD Card (Non-VROC)" option. (This can be used to set a PCIe x16 slot to x4x4x4x4 without VROC feature)
  • Adds support for Intel CPU Attached Storage for different VMD group devices.
  • Adds additional i9-10920X CPU support.
  • Resolves specific issues with CPU PerCore mapping.
  • Adds "Always Show Boot Option" feature under Boot page.

Note - We also added some new drivers today for the chipset, RST, and RSTe:

Chipset - v10.1.8.6
RST - v17.8.0.1065
RSTe - v17.8.0.1065
RST/RSTe F6 - v17.8.0.1065

Windows Installation
  • Download the correct .zip file below for your motherboard:
         151-SX-E299-KR - EVGA X299 Dark - v1.23
         142-SX-E297-KR - EVGA X299 FTW K - v1.23
         121-SX-E296-KR - EVGA X299 Micro ATX 2 - v1.16
         131-SX-E295-KR - EVGA X299 Micro ATX - v1.24
  • First go into your BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
  • Close all open programs.
  • Go into the folder where you unzipped this package and double-click update.bat
  • Press Y to start the flash process
  • DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
  • After the flashing is finished, the system will automatically shut down. Then power on again and go into BIOS to setup.
  • NOTE: If flash box immediately closes after flash attempt, the flash may need to be ran from a CMD prompt with administrator privileges or DOS version.

BIOS Installation
  • Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
  • Reboot the machine and go into the system BIOS
  • From the BIOS, navigate to the Save & Exit tab and open "Select BIOS File."
  • Select the .bin file you wish to flash.

Please let me know if anyone runs into problems with this update.  Thanks!

Will test it out on my X299 FTW K + 10940

Edit: per core overclocking, even using the same multipliers, is still slightly slower in Cinebench R15 than the other method. I'll test more, but so far it's not worth the BSODs that I'm getting trying to OC even my best 2 cores (1 and 13, the ones that supposedly can do 5.2GHz according to OC Robot).

Edit 2: nothing gets even my best 2 cores stable. Even just 1 bin higher (48) than the rest (47).

Edit 3: FINALLY got cores 1 and 13 to work at 48 (1.175V override) and then 49 at (1.25V override). Not sure if the CMOS clear (after needing to do an earlier one right after the initial upgrade to 1.23 as it wouldn't boot) helped or not, but it's finally actually working.

Thank you for the update. It's also fixed a USB reset during POST issue preventing me from using my mechanical keyboard to enter the BIOS.

Thanks for the update. I wish they would release a bios that supports any NVMe drives from other manufactures that run in VROC.

Any security fixes or is this all the patch notes? Also is Intel ME the same version?

    • Adds "PCIe SSD Card (Non-VROC)" option. (This can be used to set a PCIe x16 slot to x4x4x4x4 without VROC feature)
Updated, but could not create, so how to make it? (Samsung 970 Evo Plus x2)

Would it be possible to have the OC Robot have a Max Voltage limit, like there is for Temp? I have used it to get a semi-stable baseline, and it blasts 2 of my cores with 1.4+ volts. Esh ( short bursts, but still)

What is this for / what does it mean, please? Does it mean I would be able to put four M.2s in one of those add-on PCIe cards and Windows would see four extra NVMe drives without needing anything else?

Bios runs great. For the first time I used now a bios with per core voltage. Absolutley Insane! Thanks EVGA for this, and for that great bios - actually not found any issues at all.

Love the split / dual boot.

I'm looking for good card to use with split and if it ends up working as advertised I will be thrilled. Do you have any recommendations, please?

The Hyper M.2 is a nice card but one thing to keep in mind is if you have SSDs with heatsinks preinstalled they won't fit as the slot spacing is too close together.  I imagine most people would use ones without but just wanted to give heads up.  I tested with the WD Black SN750.

Nice to see OC Robot working for my 10920x now, but the fan issue w/ the VRM fan setting is still there.  If my system is powered down for say 30m or more I have to boot into Windows 10, shut down, wait 10s, then power back up before it drops from 100% to 20% as I have it set in BIOS.  Wouldn't be an issue if that 30mm fan wasn't so dang loud, lol

Have you tried clearing the CMOS by removing the battery (a pain given the location), to see whether it resolves the issue?

I recall experiencing a similar issue a while ago, but it was resolved once I changed out my CMOS battery. All power draining from the motherboard must have cleared a rogue setting.

Thank you for the warning! At this moment I don't worry about that, plus I don't plan to populate all 4 slots, just 2.

I don't recall if I ever did except when I was building it right after Christmas (never got my 10920x until 12/24/19), but I'll pull it this weekend when I pull it out for a full cleaning and report back after.

Whilst taking it apart I suggest replacing the battery (CR2032), as there have been quite a few boards with dead/dying batteries.

Update: I gave up trying to run the update.bat in Windows. Tried everything I could think of. Uninstalled Anti-Virus, set BIOS to defaults/cleared CMOS, shutdown every running program that I could, and still had the same problem.

In the end, I successfully updated using the update through BIOS option (selecting the BIOS file from a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive.)

This package is broken for X299 Dark.

update.bat displays 3 error messages dealing with PMXUtil, and then complains that preserve.bin is not found, followed by a "Finish update!" message.

Right now I have 7 NVMe drives in my X299 Dark. One on U.2 PU2 port, one in each M.2 slot, and four on Asus Hyper M.2 x16 V2 card that is in PE6 slot that is bifurcated through non-VROC option in 1.23 BIOS.

When I take a look at NVME Information in BIOS it lists only four drives and it seems to list only first four in following order: a) PCIe slots, b) U.2 ports, and c) M.2 slots.

So if Asus card is not in it lists what is on U.2 PU2 plus what is in M.2 slots for a total of three (see screenshots below).

If Asus card has two drives in it lists those first, then what is on U.2 PU2, and then just one of M.2 slot drives.

If Asus card has four drives in it lists those four and nothing else.

Windows seems to be able to find and use all of them fine.

So this seems to be case of hardcoding number of those that will be displayed to four even though they all can be discovered.

Can this limitation be removed, please?

Let me check with the MB/BIOS team.
