Welcome to the club man. I've been saying this for several months now and have been called "fanboy" and other demeaning things more times then I can remember for saying "once you play with Gsync you can never go back" Video's do not do Gsync any justice. you have to be hands on with it in front of you.

dakon The default color profile (set to custom) seems about spot on. I am still trying to figure out how much brightness I want. As this is by far, the brightest monitor I have had. Played an hour or so of BF4. Makes the game so fluid. I see you have SLI. Any issues? Others have reported stuttering and lots of issues. Only asking because I also have SLI but my screen isn't here yet. And yes, I joined 10 years ago and this is my first post.

I forgot why I quit using SLI until I picked up another 780 Classy the other day... issues abound. I only picked it up in preparation for this beast! Hopefully it'll all be worth it in the end.

dustingg So what do you guys think about Gsync? have you tested it out thoroughly?
Lets just put it as simple as I can :) I will not have another monitor for gaming unless it has gsync.
This really sums up what I was looking and hoping for...

Just make sure you go into the monitor profile and change the default hz from 59 to 144. Then when in game, use the OC control on the monitor to make sure it is running at 144 in game. With that I had zero lag or stutter and the monitor power LED glowes red to confirm gsync is active. You just need to do this once as once it is set, it is set. When I first ran BF4, I forgot to use the OC control on the monitor and it was set for 60hz. This was not smooth. Buth the second I moved the monitor to 144 it worked great.

remember people, A few key things to Gsync. make sure in the Nvidia control panel you have: -max pre-rendered frames set to use program settings -tripple buffer off -Gsync selected not Vsync off or Vsync (3d settings) and in whatever game you're playing make sure Vsync is set to off. Also make sure you have a high poling mouse (1000) to really feel and take advantage of low input lag with Gsync

zomg. This monitor is insane! scale of 1-10... 20+ Running some benchmarks when the system dipped down to mid 40s FPS it didn't even skip a beat. Looked just as good as higher. The panel itself is very nice too! Great color, contrast, etc... One of the best I've ever used. Per above will never buy/use another without GSync. And love 1440p... down with 1080p lol. GG Asus, GG. Now... where is my EVGA 880 Classified with 6GB vram!

boredgunner $800 for a TN monitor? Sorry but I know better.
gaming, not graphics
Gaming includes graphics too. I find the notion of TN monitors being superior for gaming to be misguided, since those that claim this usually don't know what they're talking about and are just using someone else's words. 1ms response time really never made a difference for me compared to 5ms, even when I played competitive FPS. I do notice the difference in picture quality with IPS monitors however, which these days are easily capable of 5ms and 100+ Hz for almost $500 less.
You are forgetting the PG278Q is a leap forward in TN panel monitor technology. Make no mistake to compare this monitor to the current 6-bit TN panel enabled monitors that saturate the market today. I own two Overlord Tempest X270OC EH-IPS overclockable WQHD monitors and love them. But, when I am competively gaming at LAN parties I switch to my Asus VG248QE G-Sync monitor without a second thought (I bought the G-Sync enabled VG248QE from Overlord as well). I can tell now without any doubt, the G-Sync really makes a difference in overall frame rendering, response times, and overall much smoother game play. I see lots of stuttering and tearing on my X270OC monitors, especially when playing FPS games like Crysis 3, Battlefield 4, and Titanfall. But, I never have any issues when playing those same games on my G-Sync enabled VG248QE. As you know, not a single overclockable EH-IPS monitor on the market has G-Sync. The Asus PG278Q will be an improvement over the VG248QE G-Sync monitor in several ways. One of those differences is the PG278QE uses an all-new 8-bit TN panel, meaning it can represent all 16 million colors and is almost perfectly calibrated to match the RGB color scale right out of the box. One of the things several hardware reviews have noted is that the color dithering so prevalent on 6-bit TN panels is non-existent on the PG278Q. This is one of the two main reasons why this monitor costs $799 (the other reason is because of the G-Sync capability). Asus had to go back to the drawing board and invest R&D in order to develop an all-new 8-bit TN panel that was also capable of the WQHD resolution. 1920x1080 is no longer the industry standard. WQHD and UHD (4K) are quickly replacing it in all levels of monitors that are 27" or larger. I have already placed my preorder for the PG2780Q from Newegg and can't wait to try it out later next month :D

This is what happened... Fired up Metro LL, monitor immediately went black and said (out of signal), hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen, monitor signal came back on while viewing the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen, hit cancel on the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen, now at desktop, game auto minimized while viewing CTRL+ALT+DEL screen. I tried to restore the minimized game by selecting it on the taskbar, no dice, had to perform the above sequence again to regain monitor singal as the screen went back while restoring the game. Used task manager to kill the game. Restarted my PC. Tried firing up Metro again, fired up without a problem, noticed g-sync was not enabled (monitor led was just glowing white, should be red when g-sync is on), exited game. Open NVCP, setup G-SYNC menu missing. Uninstalled the video drivers, cleaned everything up using driver sweeper & ccleaner. Rebooted PC. Performed a clean install of the latest drivers. G-SYNC menu still missing. Uninstalled the drivers again, clean everything up using driver sweeper and ccleaner. Accessed the registry... - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Video (highlighted the Video key and pressed the delete key to clear all NVIDIA display GUID's.) - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video (highlighted the Video key and pressed the delete key to clear all NVIDIA display GUID's.) Rebooted PC. Shutdown PC. Turned off the monitor, unplugged it from the wall, press and held the monitor power button for 30 seconds to power drain it, plugged the monitor power cable back into the wall, turned on the monitor, start pc, performed a clean install of the latest drivers. G-SYNC menu now back, setup nvcp settings, fire up metro, g-sync working (red led shown on monitor), all good.

Where were you able to snag yours? Id assume 1080 would look OK but not amazing.. just like how 720 looks OK on a 1080 screen

It will scale, but graphically wise it wont be too pretty. Figure that the scaling is "making up" for the fact that the 2560x1440 res has 77% more pixles that the 1080p.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. You never know. Could save some troubleshooting time if it happens to anyone else... Although it sounds like more of a fluke than anything at this point.
