Asus has announced this week on there forums board this monitor will now run at 144 Hz. I would say 1440p @ 144 Hz. will be awesome for gamers..

Hmm... this, or a 4k option once it gets to around the same price? Wish I could see it in person, but unless best buy has one on display, that doesn't seem likely.

The reason the proposed 2160p 28" display is touted as affordable is because of the low 30Hz refresh rate, many cheap 4K displays and HDTVs are 30Hz due in part to the legacy NTSC/ATSC standard.  Although Dell is also planning a 60Hz 24" IPS panel at 2160p for $1200.  Not a bad deal compared to this Asus 1440p 144Hz display for $800.  Except I'd rather get a projector for the price, but I can't find many that display 1440p (although four 720p projectors are possible, but then I think that is AMD Eyefinity territory since nVdia surround is limited to three displays).
 
 
But I'm more interested in the 21:9 format, so I'm torn for my next monitor between 2560x1080, 2560x1440 and the proposed 3440x1440.   In the end, it will be about costs.  If I win the lottery, I'll get four 2160p projectors; I play CPU-bound strategy, I'd love to see the whole map at once!

That is a bit expensive I believe. My monitor can clock up to 120 hertz and it's also 2560 x 1440. It costs half the price.
 
However, ASUS monitors are very good quality. Maybe the price will come down a bit after all the hype.

I think it may justify the price with the features it has, BTW LONG TIME NO SEE

$1K for a GTX 780
$1.5K for a R9 295X2
$3K for a Sup'd 780, aka Tesla
And now, $800 for a TN panel!
 
Miss-well, just put some gold plated logo on a bag of dog food and call it Gold_Dog, only 2lbs bag for $50, now on sell....

I'm already enjoing G-SYNC with this Asus VG248QE, I just can't wait to see it in 1440p... hnnnnng 

Gsync on a PB278Q(and or 30inches) and still PLS/IPS, and better than a dotpitch: .23mm or even a .20mm, Id gladly spend $800 on a single monitor.....
 
$800 for a TN, is just robbing from the dumb and stealing from Cupcakes.....

TN = no dice

A TN panel is the best matured panel tech for gaming atm. Give it a few years and IPS or something similar will be matured enough for gaming but it is not developed enough for good gaming qualities yet. Refresh rates are way to high on IPS panels atm. Yes the color reproduction is great and is what would make it a great Graphic Design or Media monitor but due to the high refresh rate it is not so good for FPS gaming.

Meh too much for $800. I paid $300 even for my X-Star and it runs fine at 96 Hz. If this was $550-600 then I'd probably look into it.

I just sent my 24" Asus TN 144Hz back to Amazon. Could not get over how the color was muted and reading text gave me a headache. I spent a couple of hours adjusting the settings and used the NVIDIA color correction tool as well. It did get a little better from stock. Also the vertical viewing was extremely annoying. If I moved up or down a little, the screen would not be in its ideal viewing angle. I had to sit in exactly the same spot or I had to adjust the monitor. Blacks were horrible as well. I wanted this monitor to be a great little monitor for my second computer, but I could not stand it.  My 2010 Mac Air 11" has a better picture!
 
went back to a Dell. Got a 24" 1920x1200 ultrasharp for $230 instead..hopefully get it this week from Amazon.
 
 
For the ppl buying the 27" Asus, I hope they fix the color and viewing angle.

Exactly what i did. I had the Asus 27" 120Hz, and the colors was dull, and the gamma\contrast was just horrible. I tried everything but i returned the monitor, i could not stand reading text or gaming with it. And i hated the anti glare layer on it.
 
I then bought the Samsung S27A950D 27" 120Hz, which was a glossy monitor, but everything was just so much better than the Asus. The colors was vibrant and the gamma\contrast was SO much better. Dark scenes on the Asus was very difficult to play in, but the Samsung was just so much better in every way.
 
Its a shame Samsung not making any 120\144Hz monitors anymore, and we are stuck to these awfull Asus and BenQ monitors.
 
 
At 800$ the Rog Swift better be miles better than the today's Asus monitors in therms of colors and contrast\gamma.
 

I have a Dell UltraSharp U2410, 6ms response, 1.07 billion colors.  Gaming works really well on it, very happy with the performance.  Once you use this monitor, you'll swear you'll never go back to TN Panel, or a lesser IPS.  I've tried a couple TN panels, one of them was Asus(forgot the model, had good reviews at the time), and returned it the next day.  Just could not stand the colors, and quality of the image.  TN panels only help you in FPS games really.  But if Asus is pulling it off, then its great move in the right direction for gaming, and congrats to them, and Nvidia.  Now, Dell(or whoever) just needs to pull a surprise with an IPS Panel for gaming(Gsync)/graphics design in mind. :)

When they produce GPUs that can handle 4k @144hz and then 6-9mths later the monitors will start to be available.
