I'm really torn on what to do. I just bought my 1080 FTW Gaming about 3 weeks ago before the price drop. I have until the 19th to return it for a full refund or hold on to it and wait for the step-up. I have 72 days left for that. My main concern is will it go on step-up within that 72 days(I'm assuming it will almost for sure) and will I even be able to step-up my FTW Gaming at all(not so sure) . I'm fine with stepping up to a lower FE or SC if that is the only way since I'll be water cooling anyway. I don't mind waiting in a long line for the step-up since my 1080 runs almost all my games just fine on my x34, 3440x1440 @95Hz. And I don't mind getting a full refund and waiting on the cards to get in stock since I have 2x 780 Ti's with blocks still attached to hold me over. Any thoughts/suggestions?
I'd rather do the step-up but I need to know for sure my FTW Gaming will be eligible for at least an FE or SC Ti and within 72 days. Do I take that chance? I've never used step-up and I've heard conflicting stories about whether I will be able to with my card, even if just to an FE Ti.

not sure why you wouldn't be able to use a ftw card in step up. they never put ftw or other custom pcb cards to step up to,but i have not heard them not letting a card step up because its a higher end custom pcb. maybe the confusion is a ftw card can not be steped up to say an FE or ACX card since thats all there is atm.I only have 35 days and i am pretty sure i will make it for the step up as once you get in line your fine

Any lower tier card (1080 variant in this case) is able to go up to the reference design above it (1080ti in the case).

You have lots of great options since you do have backup cards you can utilize. I can not tell you which way is best, as it comes down to a personal decision, but knowing that you have two strong cards as a backup is a good thing.

Just know, step up can sometimes take longer than just grabbing a card off of the market.. never buy from ebay though. Stick to approved retailers.

Thanks. I just wanted clarification that I can at least step up my FTW to a lower Ti. I'm quite sure they will have it available for step up within 72 days, probably way before. My only other problem now is getting rid of my water block since I can't return it, will have to sell it. Did I read correctly that the reference Titan XP blocks are compatible with reference 1080 Ti's? If so I need to go ahead and grab one before they sell out in the rush if they haven't already. I think I'll just wait out for step up. It may take a little longer to get than getting from an etailer but as long as I can step up, I'm good. Thanks again.

Thanks guys. Eases my mind. I'll just hold out for step up and go ahead and buy the water block for the Ti and put my FTW block up for sell now. I will have to put the air cooler back on it before shipping back anyway.

Really frustrated at the lack of confirmation over a 1080 Ti FTW existing. All we know is the FTW3, and that's quoted as happening in freaking May. I'm not waiting nearly 2 months for a slight improvement over FTW1. Why hasn't EVGA spoken about their lineup like other vendors have? If there isn't going to be a FTW1, and it really goes FE -> FTW3, with a 2 month gap, then I get screwed and miss my chance to get a FE now because they will sell out instantly. Really unfair situation to a loyal customer. Been buying EVGA Nvidia cards exclusively since 2008. I would hate to have to change to another brand because they make their release plans known and is a safer choice.

Maybe because the embargo doesnt lift until friday. Have a little patience please.

Passive aggresive hints at changing brands because they are under NDA will always fall on deaf ears. All companies have released teasers. Noone has gone into full details yet.

I am Anxiously waiting tell friday to see some of the real world 1080 vs 1080 ti vs titan. If it really makes 30℅ boost over 1080 I will be getting in line for stepping up. Funny thing today when I looked on step up page, they have added a GTX 650 in it

Who knows what metric they're actually referring to in the 35% claim. Would be nice if it were 35% fps increase at 4k.

This is what I'm talking about. Things that should be extremely clear and up front are obfuscated and confusing. I know this particular issue isn't on EVGA, but instead Nvidia, but the information has to be out there and someone should answer it. It's only fair to the customers so they don't have to sit and stare at their screens all morning Friday just to get a chance. These things should be known and available for all.

Been stating from the start that this is BAD business. You've been planning a release for awhile now... you know the hype and the demand. How do you run out of stock within a minute of launching preorders? How do you not have enough stock after all this time? Was the 1080 launch not a lesson to be learned from?

I signed on at 8am pretty much on the dot, and never was it listed as available. Then I was forced to linger for a few more hours trying to figure out what's happening. Now, I'm like a slave to the system, checking websites every hour. And the night of the 9th, I'll be up all night and day trying to get one aswell.

How about throwing us a bone? How about giving a proper supply to the (obviously) enormous demand?

I couldn't agree more. I find this situation to be bs quite honestly. I'm about to drop a nice chunk of change and so are allot of others here and we deserve an answer.

I agree. On Nvidias site at the very bottom it does say 10AM, but 10AM what?! Announced? For sale? Pre orders? No information. And I agree about them running out of stock.. I was signed up for their 1089 Ti the second it was available to be notified. Never once got an email. And how do you sell something so big and only have like 20 ready to ship? Should be 20,000

NVIDIA controls it all. Quit your complaining and just wait... or better yet, buy a Founder's Edition.

Wow 6+ year lurker spends first post telling someone not to complain, when they're absolutely in their right. Good stuff.

I'm looking forward to another sloppy launch from Nvidia.

Does anyone want to take bets on how many complaints there will be if NVidia doesnt have a game offer with the Ti at launch? I bet we see at least 2 threads asking about game offers, lol.

Since when there have ever been game promo offers on launch ?

I bought 780Ti and dual GTX 970s right on launch and didn't get a thing. After a month or so, game bundles started to appear.

EXACTLY my point. Never fails that someone mentions it or asks about it.

I could see evga offering something like rad rogers (Do not Hold Your Breath!!!). But NVidia probably wont for a while.

Heck, trying to obtain a card in the first few days doesn't count as a very difficult free game in and of itself? ;)

I actually feel bad for the EVGA Forum Moderators/Tech/Employees that have to constantly keep repeating themselves in multiple threads people because don't understand what a NDA is.

A Non-disclosure agreement (NDA), also known as a confidentiality agreement (CA), confidential disclosure agreement (CDA), proprietary information agreement (PIA), or secrecy agreement (SA), is a legal contract between at least two parties that outlines confidential material, knowledge, or information that the parties wish to share with one another for certain purposes, but wish to restrict access to or by third parties. It is a contract through which the parties agree not to disclose information covered by the agreement. An NDA creates a confidential relationship between the parties to protect any type of confidential and proprietary information or trade secrets. As such, an NDA protects non-public business information.
NDAs are commonly signed when two companies, individuals, or other entities (such as partnerships, societies, etc.) are considering doing business and need to understand the processes used in each other's business for the purpose of evaluating the potential business relationship. NDAs can be "mutual", meaning both parties are restricted in their use of the materials provided, or they can restrict the use of material by a single party.
It is also possible for an employee to sign an NDA or NDA-like agreement with an employer. In fact, some employment agreements will include a clause restricting employees' use and dissemination of company-owned confidential information.

I'm so confused and I feel I've received conflicting info from EVGA support vs moderators here... If i bought a 1080FTW Hybrid now, could I "step-up" to a 1080TI FTW Hybrid once it is released?

ok looks like hyperlinks are disabled or something
