FTW3 here
68°C-72°C Tj Max depending on room ambient 124 Mh/s
Ek nickel plate (dont follow the manual for thermal pad placement its dumb)
1mm Fuji ultra extreme between VRAM and nickel plate
$10 Xeon passive heatsink with the tops cut off
12x alphacool 14x14 mm heatsinks (to make overall width be 83mm)
thermal paste + Conformal coating around edges to prevent float

Ooooo fancy.

Does the lighting on your CPU block actually work with your motherboard's RGB headers?

Nice temps though, good to see it still gives a benefit even when the card is full coveraged with a block.

This particular cpu block did not feature RGB... thats got to be annoying what you are dealing with.

Cant break if it does not exist!

Very true!  I'm just happy it's semi-resolved, all I have to do is get the other block back to them without it costing me an arm & a leg.

I'm trying to cancel the pre order block t hrough them... they said it could take four days ... O.o ...
Come on ... just cancel it

I'm excited for Optimus to release a GPU Kingpin Block... That looks exciting...

Great to see some Tj Max temps from folks on water. For 124Mh/s assume you are over +1500 Mem OC?
Did you put thermal pads on the back of the Caps, VRMs and chokes?
Guessing you went down on the thermal pad thickness over all?
I would not be surprised if you didn't get better results from the 14W/mK over the much less compressible 17W/mK pads. I ended up throwing my Fujipoly 17s away for this reason.

Leak Testing Soon...

How is this bad boy coming along... did you think about just getting some acrylic cut and sealing directly to the back plate in one big block covering caps to caps?

It's alive and well in my Ghetto thread! So a lot of this is a money pit in learning, this is also my first custom loop. The humidity dropped a lot today so I'm going to try to get some new numbers tonight. But here was about 53f / 11.6c coolant. The third column has your highs after a port royal run.

What you are describing, I would Die to learn. I could cover more of this copper plate and get some insane results. It's been recommended before so I'm figuring it's not epically hard? Is there any links or info where I could get started on reading about this? If I could, I would make another one of these but better...

Here are a few extra pics of leak testing and the setup. That tubing must look like a crazy rats nest, it works though. I'm waiting for that Optimus water block. Then I plan to build a manifold out of PVC to clean this all up, get rid of all Y's and extra tubing. For that I will buy a few more 90 angle things, parts, clean it all up yadda yadda

While my temps for memory and power are lit, my GPU temps are extremely high. Something is not seated right or possibly the pad on the backplate is not touching:

Not shown, but GPU1 is reaching 44c, something I never hit before on this level of coolant. I ran benchmarks that averaged 26-30c. My GPU 1 was always lower then my GPU2, and now my GPU2 is epically lower compared to my GPU1.

Going to take it apart to investigate.

Good to see you have got the old PWR4 down low!
The reason I am not a fan of the 17W/mK pads and can understand why the manufactures in part use putty is that if you get the pads (even normal low pressure ones) ever so slightly too thick you loose clamping pressure on the GPU. Feel your pain on that one.

Now what mem junction temps are you getting with those mem temps :)) ?

I've never looked at the memory junction, 52c high? When I redid all of this I added 0.5mm thermal pad to behind the GPU and I'm wondering if that was a good or bad idea. It definitely doesn't sit as nice as it did before.

I feel defeated for now! I can't get my GPU temp down and I just spent hours on it. I'm thinking that it's not getting enough flow. It idles at 16c and shoots up to 45-50c. I can invest in a better pump, but I think I might leave it alone for now before I break something. There's no real reason to invest into something I want to throw out the car window. Optimus please come out with your block!

I'm going to start working on the in/out manifolds to clean up all the tubing which could be part of the pressure loss.

This is before tonights work. Oh and the 52c is with +1600mem.
My reservoir has another in and out port. Tempted to buy a pump just for the GPU o.O

In the process of modding with front and rear side thermal pads using thicknesses recommended here... Does anyone know which fan header goes to the pump (beige or black)? Thank you!

I'm guessing it's the black because I only have something plugged into the beige, but I cannot see the black header either atm.

My settings are currently +1350, +250 and 68% power target. If you go above this on power the performance goes down, if you go lower performance goes down
I have 1.5 Fujis on the back of the die, The rest of the card is masked off with 1.5 cheap as possible pads (these barely touch) The  EK manual calls for 2.0 pads over the caps vrms and chokes but this is in my opinion too thick in respect to the Vram. following the manual got me garbage results.

The fujis are wayy too expensive and when I get around to doing Buttabean's Glacier block mod, ill probably try the pads you reccomended.

I wanted to go with 14 W/mk pads everywhere I could, but finding them in stock not outrageously over priced is hard. I got a 100 x 100 x 0.5, but finding that in any other size was a task... or expensive. I would also like to know if anyone has unmodded memory junction temps.

Good effort, where did you get the 0.5mm from in the end?
I wonder if we should start an open source project for back plate coolers, we only really need a step file to give to your local engineering shop or 3D printer to produce the block tops with the cooling channels and an O-ring channel, then they just screw down to a 3mm sheet of copper. Custom made O-rings are in the order of $20 or you can glue round strips end to end for less. Could bring the set offs down so that you could use thermal paste or a thin layer of putty on the memory chips, and much thinner pads to the back of the power control components. That would be better than anything on the market at the moment by far... not to mention available...

I got the 0.5 at Titanrig. They ship fast and I just started going there. They have a huge selection, but it seems like with everything in demand, most of everything we're looking for is out of stock.

My ownership of the 3090 FTW Hybrid predates Memory Junction Temp being a thing in HWInfo, they released that update after I'd gotten rid of it, so that I cannot comment on.

Re: 3090 (Kingpin & others!) - Get that backside VRAM cool! 2021/03/23 15:19:12 (permalink)
So I've set myself a "deadline" of sorts... my Benefit Year End is on 4/10, thusly I'll be reapplying for continued stuff - which should be automatically approved since the D-bags that bought the place I used to work at refuse to hire anyone back that got laid off (because they hired new people that are being paid minimum wage, and everyone that worked there had been there for years & was making at least several dollars more an hour than minimum wage) - once I'm 100% for sure I'll be getting that I'm going to do one of the following:

(If the 5900x is still not in stock at MSRP by then) Buy the 3900x & MSI Creation X570 board so that I can get the system up & running, as well as update the BIOS to be compatible for a 5000-series CPU
Or
(If the 5900x is in stock at MSRP by then) buy a 5900x & Gigabyte X570 AORUS Master (because it's BIOS can be updated without a CPU installed to get it to a BIOS that will work with the 5900x) and be happy

Since the 3900x only costs ~$484 and resells on EBay for ~$375, I consider that not too bad of a hit to get the AMD system up & running & have a good CPU to use while I wait for the 5900x to become normally-priced.

Basically 2 weeks I have to wait, which isn't too bad... and in the mean time I'll be able to stack up about another $1k, which will pretty much almost completely pay for either upgrade path up front, and then reselling the 9900K/Z390 will recoup about $550-$650 of it post-upgrade.

Really curious if I'm going to have to swap memory or not... that's an expenditure that will be interesting, since the memory kit I would want would be a 2x16GB kit in the 3600MHz range with good timings.  That way I can push the Infinity Fabric to 1800 & everything should be happy there.

I have the money to do any/all of the above now, I just don't want to waste anymore than I have to to get things going... I've been waiting to do this since pretty much January, I can wait 2 more weeks :-P

And of course there's the HydroCopper bit incoming, but who knows how far off that is - not to mention that upgrade will in essence be "free" or at least significantly reduced in cost thanks to the eVGA Bucks I've stacked up, which is thanks to all the folks using my code.

That is super dushbaggy of them, but aren't costs often related to training new hires?
Don't quote me on this cause I was working on my thing and I'm, happier... definitely more then I was before.... but if your gaming, do you not want a 9900k over a 3900x? Again my brain is rusty.

From what I've heard both the quality of service & stuff provided has gone down hill, I don't think they really care that much though, as long as it's making them money, they only paid something stupid like $1.75M for the place and at worst, it'll make them that back within a few years in net profit.

Technically speaking, yes, the 9900K is better in most games than the 3900x, but it would be a temporary solution to get my BIOS updated & ready for the 5900x, and it would allow me to go ahead & resell the 9900K/Z390 setup, make sure whether or not my memory is going to play nice with that motherboard, and get my CPU block mounting hardware swapped out to AM4 stuff (with the flow going the right way instead of the opposite way).  I don't mind taking a slight FPS downgrade for when I am gaming, because the stuff I'm doing that needs multiple instances, I should be able to run more than I can now on the 9900K (which again, maxes out & causes "not responding" on occasion currently) on the 3900x since it has 4 more cores/8 more threads - so it would make it easier in the mean time, and then I can just wait for the 5900x to come in stock at MSRP, whenever it happens, without having to constantly have the barrel loaded for the order of the board & such.

I'm seriously debating whether or not to go ahead & purchase the other M.2 I'll likely be using for a "games I want on an M.2 drive" since it's currently at the lowest price it's been at since it's launched, and with the supposed-controller chip shortage for SSD drives in general, I think M.2s may be going back up in price soon.  But that 2TB from Samsung that's Gen4 is a big piece of pie, about as much as the Gigabyte X570 board is. lol
I already ordered the 1TB version for Windows & other stuff because it was on sale for it's cheapest price since it launched, but that was half the price of the 2TB version...

That'll be one more reason to lean towards the MSI board even though it's inferior in some ways, having plenty of M.2 ports thanks to that M.2 card it comes with.  The less SATA devices I actually have to have plugged in the better & easier my cable management will be... which will be nice, because with all these fans, it's always a challenge, even with the new RGB controller at least making the RGB routing easy (bundle up the rat's nest coming out of each fan cluster & use an extension cable to run from said nests to the controller ports).

Edit: link to the drive if you're looking for 4.0 goodness: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08GLX7TNT/ that's the 1TB version, 2TB version is selectable on the same page.

That is super dushbaggy of them, but aren't costs often related to training new hires?

Games are getting so big that I started looking at 4tb and there aren't a ton to pick from. I actually ended up getting a Sata3 4tb 870 Evo recently. I couldn't find a way to enable and disable drives on my X299 Dark, so Physically swap using the cable. That is probably the main reason I stayed Sata. I have a 4TB Game Drive, 1TB Personal Drive Taxes etc, 1TB **** around drive ... nothing important on, wouldn't mind getting a virus there... what it's for , and a 512GB benchmark drive stripped down to just what I need to bench. All drives have Win10 installed.

Someday when my work computer goes back to work, I hope to make a secondary computer in it's place.

Right now I'm looking at a 1TB M.2 for Windows/some games I play less often, 2TB M.2 for games I play more often & stuff that has long load times on standard drives, then probably 2 2TB regular SSDs (which I'll mirror the data on to have a backup in case it dies) for more standard storage... and a good old fashioned Seagate Hybrid Drive for "regular" files I don't need the fast loads on.

Right now I have 2TB of M.2s, 2TB of SATA SSDs, & 4TB of regular hybrid drive storage, and the only drives that aren't full/almost full are the newer 2TB Hybrid drive, and my Windows M.2 - so I can definitely use the extra/new storage.  I'll probably semi-reuse some of these drives, but the M.2s I'm definitely upgrading for the extra speed Gen4 provides.

If I get the MSI board, I can always put my current system's M.2s in that card, they're Gen3 but that means the card should have plenty of bandwidth for them.

Just fired up outer worlds on the new pc... went from a 4790k and 2080ti kpe with the game loading from a old hdd that spins to the new m2 and 3090 kpe 10900k WOW that game is fast no load times at all most of the time. good over clock on the card pulling 450 to almost 500 watts sustains 120+ fps at 4k I'm impressed! card stays at decent temps if i leave this retarded air flow 1000d case open. Going to try some weather stripping and see if that fixes my hot are from the card from coming back in around the sides of the top tray. I got the 4x8 tray on top also. 8 fans blowing out and 8 in you would think it would stay cooler but it doesn't case gets to 60c if i leave it closed cpu and gpu temps weren't to bad will open hwinfo64 next time and get peek temps. I love this card! Just need to get a nice cool back plate done for it!

So I've set myself a "deadline" of sorts... my Benefit Year End is on 4/10, thusly I'll be reapplying for continued stuff - which should be automatically approved

Right.  My benefit year ended 03/13 and I wrote them an online email asking what to do next, so I got a letter saying I had a phone call interview in a week.  They basically asked me was I still furloughed due to covid and I said yes then they asked me for a brief description of what I do at my job, and I explained and that was that.  So they refilled my balance.   So now I believe I'm on either PUA or PEUC?

I think there is also PEUCx until September 6th or such.   But all that I have read is they reapply for you.

They already put me on PEUC-A (the one that goes to September 6th) and put my balance up to 30 weeks of funds - so I'm not sure how involved my re-application is going to be, but I assume it will be similiarly easy to yours, at least I hope so.  I was on FEDB1 and this last week they just flipped me over & updated my balance from having a few weeks left to having 31 weeks there.  Very odd, but I don't mind it, if it makes the overall process easier, I'm slap happy.

Really looking forward to getting a 5900x or 5950x when it's all said & done, sometime in the next 2 weeks.
Then from there on out I'll be saving up every dolla I can to buy a vehicle outright before I go back to work to really minimize my "cost of living" to income ratio so that I can start saving up for an actual retirement. lol

What about your balance? Although your year might say 31 weeks, divide your balance by your weekly claim amount and that is in reality how many weeks we actually have left.

j
That's how I got 31 weeks, I divided the balance by the weekly payment.  So as long as I get my year reset, easy peasy lemon squeezy until the work search requirement in my state is reinstated, which right now so many counties are in "Red" because so many people don't do any common sense stuff to keep the spread down, it's gonna be a while.  Once that's a thing again I'll have to actually start looking :-D

I'm so looking forward to finally getting done with this build for real so I can just enjoy it.  I love fiddling with it, but constantly doing so gets tiresome when it's semi out of necessity like it was the last few weeks with the liquid loop issues I had.

Nothin' like a Kingpin/5000-series Ryzen system to play Risk on, amirite? Lol
