kithylin Actually, supposedly, you just flip the bios switch on the KPE card to OC mode and then it runs at 2025 without doing anything else to it or even touching software. And I can't even get anyone to confirm the Lightning card actually has any sort of mode that allows us to change the voltage at all, where it is confirmed that at the very least.. voltage changing is a staple of the KPE card.
In the video, he clearly states, "I flipped the switch to ln2 mode, which unlocks higher power targets".
Could you provide any documentation showing where you got the 2025 on the oc switch? Because Vince very clearly states, "we guarantee 2025 on the 1080ti K|ngp|n, but it won't ship with that, users can overclock to that". Was there a change after the video was made? Also, what is supposedly? I take Kingpins word when it comes to his own cards, not speculation from other users.
Exactly that. "we guarantee 2025 on the 1080ti K|ngp|n, but it won't ship with that, users can overclock to that" we have to sort of read between the lines. They did say that it will have a 3 position bios switch, normal, OC mode and Ln2, so one can only assume that the OC mode would be the "guaranteed 2025". Just like you we're just guessing here. They don't explicitly state -HOW- we get the promised 2025 speed.. and that's the only logical way anyone can think of.

Don't assume. He flat out said it wouldn't ship with it. If he had said, "it will have 2025 on a different bios", then you would have something to lean against. But he didn't. He flat out answered your assumptions. How do you get to 2025... If you have to ask that, you must not understand that you have to use precision xoc.. since that is how you get to 2025. That is the only logical answer... Normal mode will probably have 110% power target. Oc mode will have higher power target. Ln2 mode will have the highest power target and possibly tighter vram timings... just like every other kingpin card. Do you know what the vram heater does, or why it is used? Not trying to be insulting, I am geniunely curious after you asked how you would get to 2025. Also, another edit, I added the video for the lightning to my last post.

Forgive me if this was asked/answered. I couldn't see anything definitive. I'm planning a new build this summer, but the issue is I move quite often for my job so haven't taken the time to try water cooling. With that in mind, and not planning to OC beyond anything acceptable with air cooling, can someone let me know if the K|ngp|n is worth waiting for? What are the base clock speeds? And will I see much performance improvements over the FTW3 at 4k gaming? Thanks in advance!

It is only worth waiting if you have extremely deep pockets and want to pad you cool points. It is extremely unlikely you will see any more than one or two FPS in 4k gaming. Base clocks are not announced, so you would need to wait for the official announcement before anyone could answer that question.

They didn't say software OC either.. they didn't say exactly how we'll get it. You're guessing. I'm guessing. At this point everyone is guessing. And Vram heaters are for LN2 usage, usually. At least that's what I've read. I don't do LN2 myself. The only reason I was even interested in a 1080 Ti kingpin at all, is it's the only 1080 Ti card sold by anyone (so far) guaranteed to allow us to change the voltage on it without hard mods. Kudos to EVGA to once again give sort of a middle-finger to nvidia's stupid locking down of their cards with pascal.

Honestly I'm paying the extra for aesthetics's lol. The gold accents, and side power ports are worth and extra 150-200 for me lol. If I'm going to spend 800 on a card that will last me several years, what difference does 100-200 dollars make? I spend an extra 10 dollars per month of ownership for a card I find way more appealing, I can live with that. I'm also really excited to see the led's on the backplate. The way they describe it, it radiates from one side to the other like the flow of electricity going threw the card.
I plan on watercooling too, so it will likely run better then the average ftw3 card just because of the binned chips there using.
Will it be the card to rule them all, don't know, but what I do know, I really like.

The "guaranteed 2025mhz" means that, whichever way you try to OC it (Boost 3.0, Manual, Bios Switch), it will be guaranteed to clock to *at least* 2025. Nothing is guaranteed beyond that. It's just saying that every Kingpin will be capable of running it at a that speed. Nothing has been said yet of what it will be clocked at out of the box.

Dude, all you have to do is look at how every other 1080 TI has functioned and handled overclocks. None of them state that they will get anywhere close to even 2000, but they almost all do. There isn't some special sauce EVGA is going to implement to achieve their OC. Btw, the Lightning has an ln2 switch, also.

I actually can't believe the card will be more expensive than the Titan Xp. The FTW3 Hydro Copper is already 1100 here in the EU.. It's a wild guess but i think it will be more expensive.

They aren't meant to be cheap. They are meant for extreme overclockers with money to throw at overclocking.
