Brad_Hawthorne Simple observation after looking for 10 seconds at the marketing photos for the card. Why are the radiator fins on the air cooling not aligned to work with exhausting the air out the back of the card? Why is the rear port plate vented in the context of the heatsink fin alignment?
Its not a cooler that exhaust out the back of the case, a card that does that is the founders edition. It has a shroud that forces air threw the card and out the back. So it sucks air into the card, and forces it out the back where it exhausts. Now the kingpin, like every other card that has exposed fans such as the ftw3, asus strix, zotac amp extreme, and many many others, these fans exhaust into the case. They put a big heatsink on the card, and lots of fans that blow air onto the heatsink, the hot air flows off the fins and circulates back into the case. Rear exhaust cards like the founders edition are great for small compact cases as they remove the hot air. But if you arent using a micro atx case, and your case has good airflow, then the case exhaust cards actually stay cooler.

65C @ 2075MHz on air! I think that's quite good. As always, you're mileage may vary due to silicon lottery. Would Like to know how it compares to the FTW3 or SC2 though.

links? What other stock cards are doing 2075@ 65c? Its not like evga said this thing will run at 2500mhz alldayeveryday. What were you expecting? Just based on aesthetics i would consider this card "better" then all the others simply because i think it looks awesome compared to all other 1080ti's. So what makes it "better" is completely dependent on the end user. Ive had my hands on 3 1080's, zotac amp extreme, instantly went to 2025, start playing anything, instantly drops to 1999, and 15 minutes later down to 1970's. Asus Strix, instantly boost to 1999, play for 30 minutes down to 1970. Evga ftw3, instantly boost to 1974 and never budged.

That's the one thing that's puzzled me. Pascal card start to throttle at 50c I believe, it might be 40c. Adjusting the Temp Target does nothing but increasing the Voltage Slider will cause it to increase the threshold at which it starts throttling (Then you need to use the voltage curve so it doesn't spike to 1.09v but stay at 1.06v at higher temps). They should either remove Boost 3.0 and allow us to hit those frequencies that we want with the temps we are comfortable with or allow us to adjust the "Boost 3.0" directly instead of trying to work around it. It seems like the Kingpin is using some sort of XOC BIOS with the throttling either turned off or toned down. I think that would make the biggest difference to clock speeds since it won't throttle depending on the temps. As the temps do rise, the difference in gradient comes into effect and the heat dissipation will increase naturally until it comes to an equilibrium. Looks like that's around 65c for 1.093v that's actually by far the best I've seen on air. The image is on page 14 btw.

Isn't the point here, though, that this thing is guaranteed to hit 2025 minimum without dropping? Or am I missing something?

He saw 2088 on his strix and its the highest hes seen, but the strix i got wouldnt reach that, heck i couldnt even maunually overclock it past 2000 without it crashing. I also think the 2088 was manually overclocked, not like it boosted itself to 2088. Asus may have sent jay a binned card, knowing it would clock that high. Makes sense, send a card they know will clock well, to a reviewer who will get 200k+ views. Truth is the clock speed comes down the silicon lottery, and the kingpin card will be using binned chips, thats how they can claim 2025, because they have tested them to ensure their quality. So with a strix, you may get a nice card like jay, you may get a card like you, me, and my friend that will never see 2025mhz. You can gamble and maybe get a great card, or buy a kingpin, and know you have a great card.

You didn't watch the latest video he did with it. He got 2114+ on it. And if you want a Strix with a binned chip, get the Poseidon. Same PCB, but with a better chip. Every one I've seen so far has been running at least 2025 on air, out of the box..

The fans seems to be at around 60% so increasing that would obviously reduce temps and perhaps even give more overclocking headroom. I've seen the MSI Lightning Z hit 2050MHz at 65c with a conservative fan speed of 50% and 45c with fans on max. The Kingpin should be able to best that or at least match it. The Lightning Z is a triple slot card too, unlike the Kingpin.

My FTW3 did 64c at ~70-80% clocked at 2050-2076mhz. I think it will do around 55-60 at the same settings for the K|NGP|N.

Debated with myself on whether I should post anything... Slightly off topic as well. Here's my two cents... Firstly, I love EVGA. Had a EVGA 1080ti FTW3 and I would deffo want a Volta version of this card from the manufacturer when that comes around! I did end up returning mine unfortunately due to some hmming noise from the fans after a certain (fan speed) percentage. I have a Corsair Air 740 and the sheer amount of air it was pushing around made a fair bit of noise to the point that the system sounded like it was struggling and was unpleasant for others in the room. Even though it wasn't at all struggling just the loud wind noise. I mucked about with the fan profiles a looooooooooot before anyone asks. I'm sure those with less air holes in their case would be just fine! I mean yes the clock went below 2000 Mhz as well sometimes when playing games like BF1 but it didn't impact my performance in the game. Nothing but good points and things to say about the card after that. Felt like i was cheating with the FTW3 card in my system it worked so well performance wise in BF1 and fragged easily. I don't think it's all about the highest clocks (I know they matter! and it's a good indicator of how the card will perform). I feel, in my view, that it's how it sustains those frames. The FTW3 is extremely good at that. Love the card. I replaced it with a Asus Strix OC card. It boosts to around 2050Mhz. The card has obviously got a larger heat sink on it which also has the negative of taking more room up in between slots. However, the thing is so much quieter. The clock drops down to 2000 - 2025 Mhz. I haven't really pushed the card at the very top end yet by adding more voltage etc... Probably won't get too much more out of it anyhow or the FPS increase will be negligible in games just higher benchmark results. I did feel that I played better with the FTW3 in my system though. Not completely sure why. If I could take the FTW3 and stick the heatsink off the Asus 1080ti Strix OC on it to help reduce the fan speed required that would be my ideal card!!! On topic: I know we are talking about guaranteed clock of at least 2025Mhz when it comes to the Kingpin and then you get people saying that most 1080ti cards can do that anyway. I'm not having a pop at anyone. Just saying that seems to be the argument but.. I think the point of the kingpin card is more for those that want to LN2 their cards and not have to mod the card heavily or relocate some components to get those incredible benchmark scores on LN2? So the PCB is redesigned for this (power delivery etc...) . That's the main advantage of the card right? If you want to just game (on air) then probably just go for a SC2/FTW3 I think. -Yoda

This is indeed intended for extreme overclocking, LN2 and the sorts but EVGA and Kingpin himself acknowledge that they also need the card to satisfy the boutique costumers. I myself am planning on getting this Kingpin to put in my water cooled system because they have been saying there will be a waterblock for it. The reason I won't go for the HC FTW3 is because the Kingpin satisfies that niche quality. Yeah it may elude to more performance but it may not provide that. I also think it is awesome to have a card developed by someone from the neighborhood I am in. I also don't need to justify why I want to buy the Kingpin over other options to the likes of the internet people.

Kingpin using a blower cooler would be hilarious tho lmao

LinusTouchTips whats the news from the front was the it spotted yet.
Only 96 more posts bud. Also I haven't seen anything beyond they are posting a lot of pictures on twitter and stuff
Only updates I've gotten have been from JacobF, their product manager, via Twitter. Last week he implied that it could be this week. Yesterday he specified "Won't be today July 24th, 2017", so now he's specifying days instead of weeks. I'm probably looking way too into it, but I'm assuming it should be within the next couple days.

He told another user no preorders, so also basing my assumption off that. Edit:

Yoda_In_Area51 Umm, Have I missed something somewhere? not sure if that last part was meant for me or just a general statement to everyone rofl. If you like the look of the card or just want it then go for it. It's a free world! Do what you want. I was referencing you in agreement, as in I believe you were commenting on how there are a lot of strange criticisms up to personal attacks against the Kingpin and those who want to purchase it. I was mainly trying to convey reasons beyond performance that one might be interested in and also like you said It is a free world go for it.
