Re:EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Classified! 2012/08/23 22:05:20 (permalink)
Well, I put on Prolimatech PK-1 which is a top TIM and it dropped my temp's at idle a few C and at load around 5 C. The stock stuff was very thick and putty like. Not sure what kind it is. Definitely worth redoing TIM if you will keep the air cooler. Took me around 20 minutes (but then again I've taken dozens of GPU's apart). Take your time.

So I loaded up this modded BIOS in the LN2 position. It's working sweet! 100% fan isn't as loud as I thought it was going to be. I can barely even hear it with my computer in the other room.

So I did a quick run in Heaven 3.0. 1330 MHz core, 1.212 volts, power +150%. I set the fan curve to slope to 100% at 60 C. At this frequency which I really haven't pushed yet and 1.212v, the GPU stabilized at 48 C at 74% fan.

This is one impressive air cooler! Moves a ton of air. Vent-out the back scroll type fan coolers are like a million times better than "spin-in-case blow everything everywhere" type fans. I wouldn't be surprised if I could hit near 1400+ MHz with using up to 100% fan and 1.30 - 1.35v. All while keeping temps below 70 C. That's the goal for an all air-machine. EVBot should arrive next week.

Not really. With my 4 cards the hottest one got up to 68C in BF3 MP with 1.3v. This is with the 55% max fan, too.

There's a variation in the reported temperatures people have.

I don't know what the factors are. It could be certain chips individually run hotter, voltages notwithstanding.

It could also be that you either run on a test bench where airflow is eliminated, or you have very low ambient temperatures. Perhaps your airflow is very good. Perhaps you have a hose coming from your air conditioner straight into the intake of your case.

I can't really explain it. There's nothing I can scientifically experiment for. I too had one classified card that could do 1.3V and not heat up any extra amount over stock. Then, I RMA'd it and got a new one and also changed my motherboard to the one below (from the IV Extreme). Now, if I go from1 .175 to 1.212, it exponentially raises temperatures.

Weird, huh?

Well kinda yes really,  lots of factors come into play but you just might be special and lucky to achieve that.   What clock speed ?   Thats also a factor..

Yeah eventually,  not anytime soon though!  All it takes is a number of people with interest and time!   Passing Time always brings great things just the wait meanwhile is really annoying.   Iv been apart of 3 successful partitions in order to get a waterblock made for certain cards now and it works pretty well.   Will most likely do one for this card also as some waterblock vendors can do fairly better blocks than (swiftech) Hydrocopper.    ;)

i think i am missing something here - when i load up precision x and set my evbot to 1.21v - the volt indicator on precision x doesnt seem to change (still max +131). can someone point me in the right direction.

That 131+ is not the voltage, Its the power target. The voltage is what you see in the middle(example 1.175). Precision x will Only display a max of 1.1175 if you set the voltage in evbot higher than that value.

just seems odd when people using the same gpu and program have 150+ voltage indicated and my precision X is also missing the test function...

Yeah because that is power target like he said.  Its the TDP etc..   And all cards have a different design power phase and TDP rating for e.g reference has much lower 5 phase with only two 6 pin power connectors so that power target offset feature will be different.  It varies with different spec cards and OR bios versions in some cases....

And evga Precision is useless for voltage monitoring and tweaking on these cards especially when using EVbot.    Best and most accurate way is on the voltage points with a multimeter or led volt meter..  Why ?   Yes, because you did buy an extreme enthusiast card.     lol

just got my 3rd classified yesterday, which so far out of the 3 is the best, maxing out at 1275mhz core~ Although out of 3 classifieds i was expecting at least one to hit 1300mhz... what gives? Was expecting some better binning with these. i gotta admit though they must be using some high quality ram because i have 2 cards that wont start artifacting till about +700

Uh, I'm not sure where to post this, but here goes anyway... I ordered a EVGA GTX 680 Classified from NCIX Canada June 29. They've received my payment and been holding on to my money for 2 months now (that's how they operate, pay them in advance to secure a spot in line for special order items). It's now August 30 and I haven't received my card yet. NCIX's response is that they're still awaiting a shipment of these cards and cannot provide me an ETA when any cards might arrive. I can only assume this a supply and demand thing (thus low supply and high demand). Should I continue to be patient? Thanks.

I believe you have to download OC Scanner X separately before the test function will work.

Also, the only way to adjust voltage is with the EVBot. Power and voltage are not the same and you are seeing power adjustments.

It is now September. Can we expect to see the HC cards soon? I was hoping for a date. They can't be that far off in the future now that the blocks has been made for a couple of weks.

I think tomorrow would sound VERY nice!

I really hope they knock it out of the part with these. I'm looking for a reason to unload my two Asus GTX 680 DC2, which hit and hold 1300 MHz with the stock cooler, and it needs to be a good reason. I was hoping the standard Classified would do it but from what I've seen it can't which is surprising.

I'd WC my DC2s but I need more VRAM.
