I'll just be bumping my post on the last page....

- Reading about all of the overclocking limitations I'm starting to wonder if I should only buy 2 Classy HC's. I was thinking of 3 since I gaming on a 5000x1080 resolution while using Stereoscopic 3D. I wonder how much impact the 3rd card will have on the framerate when the clocks can't get as high as wanted?

Surely this has got a relatively easy answer....

What kind of clocks did you want? 1400's on air and more on water not good enough? And yes, a third card will have a significant impact.

What settings are you running that you are getting 1400 Stable ?

Sure you can get to 1450+ but that's just in precision, soon as you test it with the EV test (old furmark) it throttles.

If you only knew...

really, you wont share.

That's awesome. Quite the rig I would like to put together (with the water cooling) when the money is flowing a little better.

Great job though! Love it!

Would we be about a week out from the release of the Hydro Copper version now?

At what point could we expect to see some more information on this card? (Mainly the clocks?) It will have to be clocked higher than the stock 680 Hydro Copper.

Any word if the 680 Classy Hydros are supposed to come with higher clocks than the standard 680 Classy ?

Thanks! Nope...still at 1.25v so I have a tiny bit of room. But yeah, they're maxed at 131/100/400 @ 1.25v.

Not sure but most likely not, Jacob said they weren't going to make an Ultra version.

They have to have a higher clock than the air version. It just wouldn't be right if they didn't. The regular GTX 680 Hydro Copper has a faster clock out of the box than the air cool Classified (per their website).
                        Base             Boost
Hydro Copper 1150 MHz     1215 MHz
Air Classified 1111 MHz       1176 MHz

I don't believe they would release a Hydro Copper Classified that is clocked lower than the standard Hydro Copper.

Any guesses of when we should start looking for confirmation from EVGA on this information though?

Maybe I don't understand but, why does the stock clock matter?  If you have a GTX 680 on air and water cool it then overclock you will get likely the same end clocks, lottery dependent of course, as a HC overclocked.

I would imagine the Hydro Copper models would come clocked a bit higher. With that said, you raise a good point about the HC vs Classy, but also keep in the mind the Hydro Copper hasn't been in stock since the first couple batches came out when the cards launched. I believe I have seen Jacob say that we may not see them again and part of the reason being for such a tough binning process for those clocks.

Yeah i will but iv just been busy.   And yeah probably because the card has not panned out to be as all the talk and hype about it.   People have found "low" clocks in stock form and a bit of a disappointment for a true enthusiast top end product.   But anyways,  life goes on!       LOL

Basically, nvidia isn't giving addon card makers enough freedom.   From what I can tell, nvidia wants AIB makers to follow certain voltage/power limit guidelines and it is defnitely very detrimental to the overclocking headroom of the 680;   This is in contrast to the 580 classy which OC'ed very high out of the box, probably the best 580 on the market.   The 680 classy can OC very high too but you just need to get EV Bot - in stock form it may not be as good as many would hope.

I certainly hope EVGA has leverage to talk nvidia into giving them more freedom.  If a big AIB maker like EVGA approached nvidia to perhaps talk some sense into them maybe that could help.  Anyway, this is not to say classified can't perform/OC well, but if you're a true overclocker you definitely want EV Bot to make the card shine.   In its stock form there's not much reason to get it over the FTW+ (IMHO)

Today I've hit some big problems with my classy's. Anything I run, even with stock settings will crash/red screen. I'm guessing it is just one card doing it, but it's a hassle to have to pull them all out and test one by one again.  Then I guess it's time to RMA.

Do you have a new programs that run at startup?  That seems to be a common cause for RSOD, you can find everything with msconfig (and select "don't show microsoft programs" as a filter )

I've gone through 3 cards (2 original RMA'd Classys and now another) which did the exact same thing. At first issues with SLI then RSOD, went through multiple bridges and actual computers to rule other hardware out.

first 2 RMAs however both cards performed very well for a while and still performed at stock levels when NOT in SLI, 2 Brand new cards I received one was a lemon from the start, RSOD and crashing at stock clocks and voltages. Tried bumping up voltage to 1.2 with EVBOT and still crashing at stock, tried down clocking and still crashing.

I'm guessing like all releases there are some bad eggs :[

I'm on my third classy first one started crashing at stock settings the second had a defective LED and this third one is giving me red screens and artifacts when I raise the voltage. Not sure I can RMA it for that though since it runs at stock speeds.

Sorry to hear that. What mobo do you have? With my ASUS Rampage IV Extreme I just used the dipswitches to enable/disable each card's PCIe slot - so I could run each in single card mode and run tests to see if it was the bad card (this was when I had 4x FTW+ 4GB and one had VRAM issues). It sounds like you've made a lot of progress already...but next time maybe your mobo has something you can use so you don't have to do any removal until you've found the bad guy. :)

All the issues seem alarming to me.  Add in the issues almost all users of 690 Hyrdo Blocks and there seems to be a pattern developing here.  Eathier, Evga has gone down hill as far as using quality parts or something is up with the GPU itself from Nvidia.

I have a 690 currently with the Koolance Waterblock that has been hassle free so far, but been eyeing the 680 Classy Hydro when the finally surface, but all these reported issues with the classy's and combine that with the issues with Hydro Blocks, it makes me want to reconsider my classy purchase.

Anyone else feel that overall quality control of Evga's products is way off as compared to the 580's and/or Fermi in general?  I had several Fermi based cards, 2 MSI 580 Lightnings, 2 Evga 580's, 2 Evga 460's, 1 Evga 480 and 2 580 Classy's and never had and issue.  I did have a switch on one of my 580 Classys that I broke by accident, but they replaced it for free.  But out of all those cards, not one single issue.

Do i feel QA is off?   No.  You will find horror stories everywhere with any and all brands, and 75% of the time the user is probably at fault.   Also people don't complain when they're happy, but are really vocal when they're mad - you don't hear the billion stories from happy users.

Their QA is fine.   Hell , nvidia builds all reference and all 690 cards and EVGA has minimal part in building those, although they do make the custom boards.

Yep...just moved back to "Team Green"  and EVGA.  Week one, so far so good.    Just added a 2nd.  Have not had a chance to push the cards yet but the SLI Classifieds are working great out of the box.
