Slave is the secondary. Yes, you'll need to change it from master to slave. The slave bios allows 122% power target/limit & runs the fans all the time at idle. The master only allows 112% power target/limit & doesn't run the fans at idle.

    No problem.

Don't forget to reboot your computer once you change over to the other bios.

i would change to the slave bios before pluging the card into the motherboard:)
    so 122% power limit = 215w?

I've switched mine over and I'm not seeing the increased power limit in precision x oc. could I have a bum flash from the factory?

Did you restart your computer after switching? Sometimes a shutdown/unplug power for 30 seconds/boot is needed to make it work.

Yeah I shut it down, then switched and then started it up. I'll try switching back and forth again

I had to disconnect power cord from psu and then flip psu on/off switch to discharge caps before i could use slave bios. Just a reboot did not work, gpu-z would read slave bios number but fans didnt stay on and power limit was lower.

Is power limit of 120% More dangerous then the 112% on master?

I know I'm a little late to this party but thought someone might have some info. I have the GTX 1080 (08G-P4-6286-KR). Tech support doesn't seem to have an answer for me so I thought I'd try here. I haven't seen my post in a previous question so please bear with me. I can find no info on what good two Bios chips are on the board. I thought you could have a back up copy on one chip just in case. Tech support says you can't copy one to the other. So how do you make use of the second Bios chip? Also, when they ship this board, are both Bios's setup the same to start with? I see in some posts that the second Bios chip has a different config than the first. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out some of this?  I apologize for the length of this post. so many questions and very few answers from EVGA.

If I posted this in the wrong place please point me in the right direction.
Thanks for any help you guys might have.

    Hey guys

This thread was very interesting to me, as I am a semi-newb still. I had no idea about the Master/Slave stuff, though I did see the switch on the card.

I haven't OC'd my 1070 FTW yet, but would just raising the power limit to 112% net me more fps? Without playing with the GPU and MEM clocks?

Likewise, if I were to switch over to the Slave Bios, and raise the power limit to 122%, would this also net me (even more) FPS in games without touching the GPU and MEM clocks?

Or is the whole Power Limit thing just used strictly for OC'ing? Also if I were to switch over, would I have to set Precision to defaults, and uninstall before doing this?

    Thanks in advance

(P.S: If I were to switch over to slave, and raise the GPU and MEM clock speeds .. what is a good, first time number for each i should use to test out if it's stable and all that? I'm on the AXC cooler by the way, the one it same with. Not water cooled)
