I salvaged an eaton 9130 with 4 rack mount battery packs that was used for communications power backup at work.  Does anyone think this is worth troubleshooting to get it working properly again.  My thought was that it is probably just a couple of cells that need to be replaced, but who knows.  I believe it was 4-5 years old when it was replaced a couple of weeks ago.

    What was it doing?

More than likely, it needs a whole ton of new sealed lead-acid batteries and your work thought it more cost-efficient to replace everything.  No need to go to the manufacturer for replacement batteries - look at places like Batteries Plus and ADi Global to get discounted (or at least not crazy-marked up) batteries.

It was acting up.  A tech came out and looked at it and since it was still under warranty they replaced it.  A couple weeks later I saw it in our electronics recycling collection and decided to trouble shoot for personal use.
I'll pull the units apart eventually and test the individual batteries.  I was figuring it was probably a couple bad cells.  Certainly worth looking into.  I know these units aren't cheap.

Hmm, acting up?  Unless the UPS was constantly cycling from battery to AC and back, that doesn't sound like a battery problem.  You may want to pull the charging circuit and any other circuit board out and take a look.
