Hello

When I see these pictures it's scary, especially if I understood correctly, the card was in idle
I hope this is an isolated case

One of the other pictures. I wonder what caused this. It kind of looks like it came from the pcb instead of a capacitor failing or another component failing.

There was probably a loose solder ball (or other metal) and that shorted out L64 and also L65 blew.

I don’t think the plates caused that. We will probably never get an exact answer unfortunately

My Evga 2080 ti SC Ultra will be here tomorrow. I am kinda worried after seeing this. I may return it for a different brand. Plus I will need to pay extra for next day rma just in case something like that happens.

I can say this is an isolated case right now. We have already been in contact with the user and a replacement board is on the way. We are getting that board back to identify the root cause.

    things like this happen
DEC alpha supercomputer I used at work went in smoke right in front of me.
its price was few ten million dollars and was shocking seen and couldn't move.
NO2 fire extinguisher went off and I came back and ran out of the room.
it was due to bad capacitor which short circuited and burned.
pretty common said the DEC guys.

I think that is not isolated case.
Someone's Asus 2080TI tubro is burned in same place too.
Maybe the fault of NV designed PCB....

2 cases would still be isolated. If it continues to happen, then it wouldn’t be considered isolated. We very well could end up seeing more of this, but it depends on the quantity of cards versus the amount sold overall.

the asus's origin of failure is not in the same location.

It’s within an inch and at the same location on the card. That is pretty close for two completely different brand boards.

I have been following the threads closely. It was reported on Hardforum. I currently own both the EVGA XC and a Asus Turbo Dual fan 2080 TI so it has been of interest to me. On both my cards, I have measured the temps from the backplate  to be in the 105-112F range in those affected areas while the GPU area has been around the 122F range which is reported to be 55C by precision x1 and gpu-z.
