Hey guys,

Maybe somebody can shed some light on my issue. Built a new pc last week. All was good until today. The gpu appears to now be overheating. While gaming the screen went blank and the PC shut down.

Just noticed while investigating, only one fan (closest to display ports) is spinning and under load it's spinning at what sounds like 100%. I have no control over it in precision x as well. While HWmonitor says it temp is only 45c

Specs:
Asrock z97 extreme9
gtx 980 ftw acx 2.0
i7 4790k
h100i
32gb 2400ddr3
hdd and ssd

This is not normal, correct?

Make sure nothing is stuck in the fan that is not spinning. I have seen a few people mention this, but it has been very seldom. This may be a bios or fan related issue specifically.

Check the wires first, and if the fan is moving freely, you may want to set up an RMA so that it doesn't die on you.

Reseated the gpu. Tried different pci slots. It spins freely. Updated my mobo bios. All to no avail. Frustrating :/

Just to avoid further frustration, I suggest an RMA.

RMA or return if your still in the return window. Not everything is properly put together in assembly lines. There's always a few lemons.

    Thanks guys.

Once it revs up to full speed gaming. Only way to get it to turn fan speed back down is a PC restart.

Quick question, I know you mentioned the use of Precision X. Do you have any other software, like AI suite from ASUS to control fans?

If so, make sure you close them.

This should Not affect your fans separately, as they are bot wired into the same controller, but just in case.

OK. Definitely RMA it. They can slap a different cooler on it and throw it into the bstock pile, and get you up and running.
