Does anyone believe the trend of short supply will continue if we do not get it in the first refresh of our browser then they will be sold out? The power claims to be more which we all know is usually the case in most aspects at least on paper. " Lovelace would see an increase in Graphics Processing Clusters up to 12, which is twice as many as Turing’s GA102 GPU (3080)" -VideoCardz. I just wonder at this rate of supply/demand if it will be another rat race and if there will ever be a time when we will be able to get back to not stressing the time crunch or sold out in seconds phenomenon. Is there light at the end of the tunnel or is the shortage of components just a way of life for our future?

Such things are just impossible to predict. I think the quarantine made the impact even bigger, but nobody really knows. All we know is that it should release Q4 of 2022. That's literally all we know

I think shortages and the associated hype etc will continue. It seems it is everything these days: shoes, CPUs, GPUs, the freaking Popeye's chicken sandwich thing. It is now a societal thing.

Definitely agree, shortages will continue. Maybe the hype for cards will die down a little as lockdowns ease up and certain cryptos move away from GPU-based mining, but undoubtedly yield and therefore supply will be low to start out. I'm just hoping that as the hype moves from 3xxx to 4xxx that it frees up some stock for previous gen cards...

Quite frankly next gen GPUs would be out until late next year. Hopefully by that time the semiconductor shortage will be over or mostly over.

I would also say I wouldn't expect anything until September 2022 to even become official and probably two to three weeks later for the cards to ship out. As for the supplies of chips I really don't know since it's hard to say what will happen as a lot of people I know returned to work in offices and they looked at upgrading computers after people got vaccinated but now they are talking about maybe going back to remote work for workers if the Delta spreads. I think that could really change things for people as I think this time it won't be something in which people will think it will be short term that they will be working from home meaning a new rush of people upgrading to desktops.

I also think it will be the end of 2022 before we see anything from NVIDIA.  The chip shortage, all industries, may subside somewhat by then, but there is still an existing pent up demand that will take time to alleviate.  When your local auto dealer has a full lot of new cars, that will be one indication that things are getting better.  Some of the new fabs will start production sometime in 2023, which will help.

As @Hoggle stated above, if more people are forced to work remotely, then we will see another surge in demand.

Yeah. I agree. If people go back out we will be in the same spot. I have been blessed to tinker with a couple 3xxx series cards one official and one made due to shortages (3060). This time around I'll grind even harder for an FE which I didn't get last time while massively refreshing to grab one on launch day. Ended up paying a premium. I just hope it doesnt happen again.

Waiting is the hardest part. Manufacturing is as high as it can get with low levels of parts.

The other thing we will have to see is the price and performance increase when it does show up. Also what is happening with monitor prices. If people feel they should upgrade from a 3070 or 3080 then it could be a a real rush. The monitor prices could possibly make it so people start to upgrade to 1440p or 4K monitors making people want to really maximize the performance with a new card.

They should continue with both since they will be on different fabrication lines that already exist. In the past new stock of the previous gen was available for a very long time after the new ones were out. I don't think they flick a switch and stop making them. People will buy them.

US really needs to get back in to the chip game.  We made 40% of the world's chips in 1990 and only about 12% now.  Logistic's from Asia just adds a second huge bottleneck.

I agree which is why TSMC is going to build a fab in the USA but this takes time and won't resolve anything until the plant is online probably 2023/2024.

By the time we catch up, we will have an oversupply and less demand for all these new fabs. Gonna be rough for those workers who end up losing jobs when that time comes around in a few years
