When not quoting a specific post ,I'll sometime use something like @ geninfo, as a precursor to make it clear whom I'm commenting to

@Cool GTX My Apology.

haskellcurrying
Well look at that, I'm going to have to wipe this egg off my face now, aren't I? I do apologize!

That's OK, I will keep my 30 Years in Computer World at Bay.
The comment was to the Post above me by with this; "For Dark (or any X299), you can't do 5x GPUs x8"
Not at your requirements or needs.

Computer or Rocket Scientist and or Engineers are all the same they are just Scientists or an Engineer.

Maybe you should take a look at Cloud HPC.

Re: X299 Dark Memory Support Friday, March 02, 2018 0:42 PM (permalink)
There is no support for big RAMs (over 16GB/module) on X299 DARK, just like any other X299 chipset based board from any brand due to:
* Consumer CPUs like Core-X series support ONLY unbuffered DIMMs. Currently maximum density of UDIMM DDR4 is 16GByte.
* 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and similar modules are all Registered modules (RDIMM) and have different signaling than UDIMM. System will not post with RDIMM present in the slot.
* Consumer CPUs like Core-X series do not support ECC. ECC require Xeon-W series workstation processor.
* Xeon-W series processor even though electrically and mechanically compatible with X299 boards, will NOT work in these boards. Unlike previous HEDT platforms (X99, X79, X58) now Intel locked down the use of mismatch segment CPU+PCH. . Xeon-W require C6xx series chipset board. Mechanically these CPUs are still LGA2066 and can use standard desktop LGA2066-compatible cooler, unlike Socket P platforms.

Hope this helps someone.

If you have question, please post in public forum. I do not reply PMs, so all in community can benefit the answer.

Thanks for hard info and explanation of explicit lock down.
