BDV  Lithium Aluminium Alloy - Manganese Dioxide ?? 3.0 Volts ?

Not that I think they are BUT Would be real odd if we find out these are a re-chargable battery

1200 hours life at a 15k load but mother board ohm is a lot higher.

Only DBVbattery  I ever saw was in a Dell computer

----------------
I have seen coin battery with stickers you have to remove but any builder would catch that

So your battery was OK then?

I am looking to pick up one of these boards, and since my system is hard lined water cooled this battery is 100% getting changed before hand.

Could someone please tell me the type/size of the battery so I can get one on hand before the MB gets here.

Thank you big time, got it replaced on my Dark board before ever putting it in the system.  System is hardline wasn't going to take a chance, I would have checked the battery but of course the batteries in my DMM was bad lol Anyways thank you again

And STILL no word from EVGA as to what happened. I mean I am grateful to the forum and thread and I was to get ahead of it. BUT in a TOTL motherboard, for them to stay so quiet on this is kind of annoying. Was it a big deal to change the battery? Not really... Should I have had to waste the time going out getting one and then changing it? The question is self-answering... I have been building my own computers since the early 90's and I am sure a lot here have been doing it even longer. I have NEVER had a bad CMOS battery and I have NEVER had one go bad. My EVGA x58 FTW MB is STILL working and the CMOS battery in it works JUST fine.

I am not looking for a thing, but I would like EVGA to fully acknowledge they have messed up big time and be thankful to the community for getting the word out. I am now climbing off my soap box... Rant over...

It is slightly weird that EVGA hasn't made a statement about this.  I am very greatful for everyone on the forum bring this problem to more people's attention.  This is a problem that people do not normally expect or look for.  Plus it is a problem that isn't easily solved with a system fully built.

If you have read Post #52 https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2902068  EVGATech_AdamB is requesting we provide him with the Following:
Unfortunately, it is only on the motherboard itself, not the box. That white sticker has the factory identification number, so we can track it back to the source. Think of it as akin to a VIN number on a car. We need both the serial number and that factory number to be able to track these cases

So they do know about it and are collecting info.
It is most likely a bad batch or lot of Batteries.
A good shopper looking for a Motherboard should be reviewing what others are saying about their own Motherboard and issues noted on the Forums of the Company that is selling the Motherboard. Just like this Thread. Some say that it should not be this way but then that is on them. Buying a Motherboard putting in a CPU and Memory along with Graphics Card and Putting all in a Computer Case is not like Buy a Dell or an HP so shopping is or should be different then when you buy Pre-Built Computer and Parts to Put one Together. It is only a Battery not a Pacemaker for your Heart.
Most lithium-ion batteries can last 10 years so we know it is a bad lot.

I've sent the email.
Yet, a dead battery is not a big deal. Just took one from a dead mobo and all fine now. :)

Hello!

Another bad battery here. I ordered my board on february 22 2019 in germany and the battery , that shipped with it showed a voltage of 2.27.

The battery shows "D B V Lithium Battery CR2032 3V" on the back and someting like "7a" or so on the front side.

And also I have some used batteries (for some years) that still provide voltages from 2.8 V to 3.05 V, I think the way to replace it here is badly designed.
You see EVGA, you just have to pick accidently a bad charge of batteries and your manual assuming a replacement isn't often necessary just fails. Quote: These batteries typically last several years and rarely need to be replaced.

I don't need any support, because I've allready contacted EVGA and they offered immediately a replacement battery. But I declined because I will send the board back to the shop for refund. It doesn't fit my expectation in other ways.

edit: I messed up the purchase date, added some pics

2.27 is better than 0.02  Should that Red Lead not be plugged into the Red DC above?

Of course. If you want to measure amps, but not voltage.

had to replace the battery on my x299 dark motherboard when I received it so it defo is a problem from factory who ever tested these boards should be sacked or at very least given a pair of glasses as at 500 pound you don't expect to have to replace the battery out of the box

For anyone who has a motherboard with a dead CMOS battery, please PM me the details of your motherboard. I will need the serial number and factory manufacturing number from the back of the motherboard. The serial number will be on a black sticker and the manufacturing sticker will be on a white sticker. This would help us greatly in figuring out why there have been a few cases of this as this is very atypical.

You have to remove several screws that are located on the back of board. I also had to replace the battery in the one I just bought. I also used a battery from a broken MB to replace it with. Not sure when Mine was made as I bought it used but these boards are only 3-4 years old?? Is there more required from the battery than just keeping the BIOS settings from boot to boot???
It's in a bad location if it is a requirement that it needs replacing every 2-3 years. On the plus side - you can save over 8+ different profiles in the BIOS.

At this point i would just replace it regardless. Unless you want to know the voltage for your own curiosity CR2032 are cheap and by the time you test it with a multi meter you may aswell just replace it.  EVGA are not using a quality battery supplier regardless of your current battery voltage so to avoid future issues just swap it with a Japanese cell and move on with life. EVGA really should be putting a PSA on the forums regarding this issue at the very least as it can cause some strange issues that may make troubleshooting troublesome for many people given how rare a bad cell is and how its entombed under the plastic shroud.

Received the board. X299 Micro 2. Battery voltage was at 2.92Vvolts. New Duracell was at 3.24V according to my Fluke meter. Replaced battery.

So far this has only been a issue on the Dark Motherboard.
Mine showed only 0.04 and 0.06 Volts.
But you changed yours and is most likely for the best. Have fun with your New Motherboard

Re: X299 DARK - hard boot, getting "CMOS checksum error" 2020/05/19 19:29:11 (permalink)
I recently got a replacement X299 Dark board as my original was RMA'd. After 5 months with this new board my computer will randomly shut off and get stuck in a weird re-start loop automatically turning off and then turning back on by itself and getting to different post codes, sometimes C, sometimes 06, sometimes it will almost boot into Windows before shutting back off. After letting it sit for a while like 2-4 hours it has been able to boot up again.

I emailed EVGA and they're saying it could be a dead CMOS battery, because the MB will have to be completely removed, I was wondering if all this could really be caused by a dead MB battery as my understanding is once the MB is on it would not rely on the battery anymore.

What do you all think?

EVGA was wrong to put CMOS Battery in a location that not only Mobo need to remove[If installed already]but remove other bunch of Screws to get to it!!!This is very inconvenient for anybody.
