Anyone seen or heard of any major issues with 1909 yet?

I wouldn't call it a 'major' issue, but it did bork my Aura Lighting Control, won't even open now..Had a Windows Update a while back bork AI Suite like that too..I think it'll get fixed soon by either Micro$haft or Asus.

Not what I wanted to hear.  Just had major issues with Aura.  The latest Armoury Crate said to remove Aura so I did.  My ARGB stuff on headers promptly stopped responding to changes in AC.  Tried removing/reinstalling no go.  Removed and tried just the latest Aura, nope, had to reinstall BOTH Aura and AC together against the instructions to remove Aura in order to get it to work.

I still see the 131 errors today in event viewer.  The update to 1909 doesn't appear to have resolved anything there.  For me anyway...

If you haven't yet, right-click on the Clear_Event_Viewer_Logs.bat and Run as administrator..Then see what errors and warnings return after restart/a few days or so.

Can't hurt.  I'll give it a look.  Thanks.

These 131 errors have been around on and off since 2014 as far as I can tell with the searching I've been doing.  Most reports have shown it caused my an MS server issue.  I'm still digging...

Just forced the update.  Took all of 5 minutes to download and install lol.  No Aura issues either and none of the usual stuff I have to deal with on a version update.  This really just felt like a large monthly patch Tuesday thing.

I came across this answer to the "131" errors in the event viewer from a few different sources.  I tried it last night and found that today I had no 131 errors.  At least not yet.  Recently it's been about 10 - 12 per day with ~4 right after booting up in the morning.

Look at the 1st answer from this thread about changing the "time" source > https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/04e31d9e-90ec-4d05-94ab-d2b53b026453/metadata-staging-failed-device-setup-manager-eventid-131-0x80070490?forum=win10itprosetup

I'll be checking here & there to see if I get any more of these errors, but my system has been up & running about an hour now & no errors yet.  So far so good...

I found a good explanation as to why the "time source" makes a difference, but can't find the site today.  I looked through so many yesterday...  It had something to do with how fast the OS checks installed devices and with a very short timeout, if it doesn't find the metadata in that time frame, it errors out.  Changing the time source to what's found in the link above is more accurate which stops these errors.  We'll see over time here.

Control panel > Date & Time > Internet Time tab > Change Settings > set server to "time.nist.gov" and click "Update now.

If clicking "Update Now" fails.  You could leave the setting at "time.nist.gov" and restart your system instead of clicking update.  That should do it.

Good to hear your event viewer is clean...

I still have no 131 errors yet today and even used the device (BT adapter) that I believe was triggering the error to begin with...

Been up for 4+ days on 1909 now with zero issues.  Also seems like whatever flaky update or random iffy driver update I had at some point a couple months ago that was causing random bugcheck restarts to where Windows couldn't even create the dump file has been resolved although I think it resolved a couple weeks before 1909.  That was literally happening like every 1-2 days.  I'd go to my desk and be greeted with the login screen instead of my desktop.

I don't have anyway to back this up just my perception but think my system is taking a third longer to settle down (driver activity) when starting after this move to 1909?   What do you think? Edit: Yeah I know "get an SSD you stupid idiot" but outside of that anyone think their system might be taking longer to get up to speed or level out?

Side note: Don't know if anyone knows but Xbox Game Bar was updated and one thing added was a FPS Counter with graph I have been checking it out and seems it works quite well.

I maybe should have added that I do a fair amount of defragging plus a Boot Time Defrag after an Windows update with Defraggler.

But Cool, I actively seek out Microsoft Store app updates , I will not touch OneDrive , there has been no change with Start-ups.

And speaking of Microsoft Store and Live Tiles... I wonder if they will ever fix the it so it does the live tile stuff again?

I don't have anyway to back this up just my perception but think my system is taking a third longer to settle down (driver activity) when starting after this move to 1909?   What do you think? Edit: Yeah I know "get an SSD you stupid idiot" but outside of that anyone think their system might be taking longer to get up to speed or level out?

Side note: Don't know if anyone knows but Xbox Game Bar was updated and one thing added was a FPS Counter with graph I have been checking it out and seems it works quite well.

I haven't noticed any difference after updating to 1909.  But I also have onedrive, indexing, live tiles, store, Windows search, among other things etc; all disabled.

EyeDeeNo: If you're having problems with Live Tiles, unpin the app and re-pin. Optionally, enter the app and continue with the initial basic setup if need be, setting the location (Automatic is ideal). Also, uninstall and reinstall the app of that doesn't work.

It could be it has something to do with the evolution of security of either paid antivirus software or something else?

It's just the MS Store and I have tried an assortment of vectors periodically to get it to work but also found that it's not just my system I see on other system the same and this Microsoft Store tile not live.

Edit: All is running better now. I ran Defraggler's boot time defrag again. Made space on the system drive, is down to last 100GB free space and was pushing into the 80GB range. Now cold start boot-up is back to 6-12 minutes instead of 18-26 was waiting. 🗿

It could be.  I haven't had any problem with the built-in Windows Security with the occasional run of Malwarebytes.  It will probably take some trial & error to figure out what your issue is.

And it could all be related to the problem you're having with MS Store.  I keep the Store disabled & just check manually now & then to see if there is anything I want to update.

Apparently this 1909 update has been hailed as the best yet , since it didn't significantly bork up as much stuff..
Of course, that is kind of a low bar set - so ....

Windows 10’s November 2019 Update, also known as version 1909, is the best update to Windows 10 yet. It’s a small update that’s quick to install, doesn’t add any crazy new features, and isn’t breaking many things.

Since Windows 10’s release, Microsoft has issued a major new update to the operating system every six months, starting with the first November Update in 2015.

These updates have often been packed with major new features that needed more time in the oven, like My People, Paint 3D, and the Timeline. They make major changes to Windows 10, leading to incompatibilities with software and drivers. Some updates remove or move useful settings.

Re: Windows Updates successes and/or problems thread 2019/12/08 11:51:48 (permalink)
EyeDeeNo, good to hear.

I've ran into tiles not unpinning and appearing on top of each other over the years. The only way around that is a Windows reinstall. Optimizing the SSD and reinstalling the app from the Store or PowerShell did nothing. I had that the other day with a customer's laptop from the factory. I always do a fresh install for customer's systems when they're new laptops. I tried a few things on theirs prior to fresh installing.

However, the major Windows builds have gotten a lot better compared to before.
