Will I be able to step up from my GTX 1080 to a RTX 2080 when it comes out?

I purchased my 1080 on June 1, 2018, but the RTX 2080 doesn't come out until September 20. I was reading the step-up program guidelines, and apparently there is a 90 day window before I can't step up anymore. Will I have to purchase an extended warranty if I want to be able to step up?

Extended Warranty has nothing to do with Step-up, only your warranty. 90 days is final and you can't extend it. It'll be 111 days on Sept 20th from June 1st, rough timing for you dude.

Luckily, I'll still have 4 days left after Sept 20th to step-up.

Unlikely, it takes a few months for stock to be high enough for step-up. It did take a little bit after Pascal launch first step up cards to be added.

How's that work? I bought mine on June 6th and only have 16 days left?

Have you counted how many days it's been since you bought your card?  16 days left is about right.

Hope that helps everyone a little.

Just in case the picture doesn’t show.. 22 June and after. 22 June to 20 September is 90 days.

There is 106 days between June 6th and Sept 20th, so you have 16 days left until Sept 7th which is when your step-up period is over.

For me, I got my card on June 26th and my step-up period ends on Sept 24th because there is 86 days between June 26th and Sept 20th.

Your first post you said "It'll be 92 days on Sept 20th from June 1st", thought I was miscounting or something since I bought mine 5 days after the OP did... which would mean I would still be able to step-up lol

Yea, it's actually 111 days between June 1st and Sept 20th, I copied the wrong number without realizing. I have corrected that.

I too was considering the step up program, but the more I think about it Im better off sticking with my 10 series.

To step up from a 1080 to a 2080 you would have to spend ~$500 + shipping both ways.  If I were in that boat, Id rather get a 1080ti for ~$550, sell my 1080 ($350?) and have only spent $200 or so to upgrade to a card which early indicators point to the 2080 and 1080ti being roughly equal in performance with RTX turned off.

Thats exactly what I did two weeks ago, so to step up my 1080ti to a 2080ti Id be looking at $750 plus shipping both ways for again, what seems like marginal improvements.  Ive got 6 weeks to decide once the new cards are officially on the street, but if benchmarks dont show basically double performance, Im not spending that much to upgrade.

In my case, it would only be $200 something (assuming they don't increase it for whatever reason during the approval process) according to EVGA's instructions of calculating my step-up price. I paid $599.89 for my 1080 SC2 (cheapest I could find at the time everywhere else I checked it was $650+) and I wasn't charged for taxes and got free shipping. The difference between the $799.99 2080 XC and my $599.89 1080 SC2 is $200.1 + the return shipment of the 2080 for $13.75 and whatever it costs me to ship the 1080 to EVGA from UPS (probably around the same) and should be about $227.6, give or take, as long as nothing changes. Whether or not I go for it will depend on benchmarks as I'll have 4 days after Sept 20th before my step-up period ends to queue up.

Thats not nearly as painful.  Ive been hearing NDA is lifting on the 14th so reviews may give you plenty of time to decide.

Extended Warranty has nothing to do with Step-up, only your warranty. 90 days is final and you can't extend it. It'll be 111 days on Sept 20th from June 1st, rough timing for you dude.

Luckily, I'll still have 4 days left after Sept 20th to step-up.

Not Really True, here is why; Link
If your qualifying product has a 3 year warranty purchased on or after 1/1/11 and registered after 14 days of the original purchase date you must also purchase an extended warranty in order to be qualified for the step-up program.

But still the OP will be over his 90 Day Period and cannot Step-Up his Graphics Card.

So if I buy a 1080ti now, I would be able to step up then?

Yes, you will be able to. Make sure to register your product within 14 days of purchase or you'll have to purchase extended warranty (within 90 days) to get into the Step-up program.

I have 9 days to step-up...but unfortunately, I won't be able to no matter how nicely I asked even though I was told in the beginning I would be able to!
