Be Quiet 750w Platinum. FTW3 3080 connected using 2 pcie connectors with 1 being split. It’s been working so far.

AX850 with 3090FE and 9900k shuts computer off at various time if loaded. Seems to be transient issues. Working with Corsair currently to RMA and find out if this is a deeper problem with the supply.

I have a 3080 FTW3 Ultra arriving on Monday for my Ryzen 9 3900X rig which is already powered by an EVGA 850 P2. I also have a second unopened 850 P2 because I bought them both when EVGA had them on sale for $100. I've been looking at the list the past few days. Nobody has confirmed getting an 850 P2 unit working yet?? At this point I might as well leave the card in the box when it arrives, not that I want to. But I am definitely not going out to buy another new PSU after dropping $900 on a card. I hope EVGA can figure something out. I bought these PSUs with some future-proofing in mind as it is and it's not like a 1000W P2 is only $50.

For what it's worth, I just searched every page of this thread and there is not one single post saying their 850P2 *isn't* working either.

Unfortunately, posts in other threads by people who have had one have said theirs didn't work, though I'd have to track those posts down again. That's why I've been following this thread one so closely hoping for some good news from somebody else with one. Reactions to the 850 P2 cutting off during use with the card amounted to "that's weird". But admittedly, it's not like it was 5-10 people so far. This guy had redone his drivers, cabling, etc, but to no avail.

I should be able to report on a 3090 FTW3 Ultra with an EVGA 1000w T2 Titanium early next week.

EDIT: putting this at the top of my post so readers see it first.
I called EVGA and the support rep Daniel was super friendly and helpful.  He talked to me about my setup and discussed what could be going on and it didn’t feel rushed. He asked me some questions, including whether I was using a vertical mount / riser cable... which I was.  I have the O11 Dynamic, which I love but it’s too tight with the FTW3 Ultra for my liking.  You really have to press into the power connectors and press the GPU into the motherboard to get the side panel on.  I kept my cablemod vertical mount to avoid this issue.  He told me to try connecting it in the normal horizontal orientation, directly to the mobo with no cable.  I didn’t honestly think that would fix this, but it did!  So now I think I subscribe to the following for the FTW3 Ultras:
 - no extensions
 - use a Tier A / Gold PSU from the LTT Tier thread, that has confirmed good transient performance
 - no vertical mounts
 - 3 pcie power cables from PSU to GPU

I darted over to Microcenter and grabbed an O11 XL... I know what I’m doing for the rest of the night now.

My new 3090 FTW3 Ultra took a dive last night.

-Ryzen 3950X
-Aorus X570 Master
-(New) Corsair HX850 with the corsair type4/gen4 cable kit.  3 separate pcie power cables to GPU (2x singles, 1x dual with one of the 8pin pairs going to the PSU)

I did notice a weird bandaid smell when gaming, but it was starting to go away.  The PSU was brand new, I bought it to go with the 3090 so I thought maybe there was some kind of burn off or something that needed to happen.  Everything was running very well besides that.  I rebooted for something unrelated last night then suddenly my resolution was stuck at 640x480, Device Manager shows the yellow ! overlay on the 3090, and the device properties show “Windows has stopped this device because it reported problems.”  Did a clean DDU reinstall of the drivers, same thing.  It also shows a popup “Force to reinstall the display driver” when Windows launches, which doesn’t do anything.

I put my 2060 back in and it works fine.  Put the 3090 back in and... no good.

There sure are a lot of people having issues with these super expensive cards.  I opened a support ticket with EVGA.

This is absolutely unacceptable and I said  that 2 weeks ago when these issues were arising one after another. It seem that if your card is OK now its so unpredictable and yes I know don't matter what card you have, it can happen anyways, but this! you card can go down the drain all of the sudden even on idle, that is by far serious issue

Only a couple small issues so far:  2 black screens that were easily fixed by a restart and a DirectX 11 crash in COD: WZ also fixed by a restart.

Not sure who the one was that decided to discontinue the G2 and come out with some of the zillion new models they have now. But it was a mistake IMO.

It’s unfortunate. They changed manufacturers apparently. I went to get parts for a friends build and there was a G+ and all kinds of stuff I was like ****. When I got my G5 I thought it must be better than the G2. Well aside from the green E that lights up on the back (which is distracting at night tbh) it’s worse.

The reason why they said its useless, is because MOST people replying, are only stating GPU/PSU combo, and there's many variables. How many case fans, how many SSDs/HDDs, RGB lighting, Optical drives, USB Hubs, which CPU and is it OC/NON OC etc. etc.

Not relevant.

PSU and GPU is the only info we need for this thread.

Transient power spikes aren't shutting the PSUs down, they are working, that's all we need.

I haven't gotten an RTX 3000 series card yet, but I'm wondering if there are any knowledgeable people here that might know if my power supply may or may not cut it?

I have an XFX ProSeries 750W bronze that has lasted me several years and is still going strong. Anyone know definitively or just has an educated guess if it could handle an RTX 3070?

Should be fine, but no one can know for sure. Brand new it would absolutely be enough.

I know the thread is for the 3080 and 3090, but I just wanted to follow up for completeness that my pretty old 750W PSU is running my 3070 perfectly right now, no issues whatsoever.

Well that was interesting. I'm still running a 2080Ti, and had a slightly older version of Precision X, so about an hour ago I updated Precision X and with that update came the firmware update. I then ran TimeSpy on the same clock settings I've run numerous times previously which previously never had an issue - soon as TimeSpy started I got the crash and restart. Hmm. So then I set the GPU to spec clocks and tried to run TimeSpy again.. got about halfway through and then crashed again - and again not to desktop but full crash and restart. The only thing that changed was Precision X and the firmware update. I'm looking very suspiciously at that firmware update, I can't even run TimeSpy on default clocks now, what the....

The only thing I changed was Precision X and the firmware update. I'm looking very suspiciously at that firmware update.

Shut it down completely and switch off the PSU.

Wait a few mins.

Start it back up and reinstall the Drivers.

PSU is fine. I downclocked the CPU to 5.0GHz instead of 5.1GHz (all cores) and was able to run TimeSpy with the 2080Ti clocked again to 2.1GHz.
So the CPU clock was the issue.. strange this happened with the new GPU firmware though. I was able to run TimeSpy previously at 5.1GHz CPU and 2.1GHz GPU repeatedly without issue.

I should receive my 3090 FTW3 Ultra this coming week, so we'll see what happens then. Just weird that it suddenly crashed in TimeSpy for the first time in almost a year immediately after the firmware update.

My 2080Ti (FTW3 Ultra) also flaked out after installing the new PX1.

All I did was swap monitors, went from HDMI to DP....

3 Red Lights near the power connections and no LED, and it was still running, PX1 didn't see the card correctly.

So I shut it down, flipped the PSU switch and let it sit for a few mins just to let everything rest. (Just rebooting didn't change a thing)

Turned it back on and all was golden yet again.
