So far, EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 is working fine with EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra and in eco mode.

scooby72 3090 FTW3 Ultra Corsair RM850i Works great. Total draw from the wall peaked at 600W during benchmarking, so I don't have too much room to play with before efficiency starts to tank - I may have to upgrade if I start overclocking. Depends a bit on what Zen 3 will do to my power draw.
Yeah, I already have a new PSU coming, the 3080 FTW3 Ultra (450W XOC VBIOS) really put a dent in my PSU efficiency/wattage plan. More than 630W gaming load, not from the wall...... NOT overclocked. Yeah, HXI 850W here... New PSU on the way.
What's your efficiency plan? Based on what I've seen the 850w should keep you in a decent spot. Are you just trying to improve efficiency for long term cost savings?

kevinc313 I just went from a G1+ 650w to a 1300w Seasonic Prime Gold myself because it's one of the best performing PSU's made, even though I'm at less than half the power capablity. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.
What is the difference? What value do you get sitting at 50% utilization vs 80%? If it's just efficiency, or long term cost/psu life I wouldn't really call that a performance difference. I don't care if I'm paying 5% more on electricity, or if my PSU lasts 5 years instead of 10. If these are the only factors then I'll definitely save the upfront cost and get an appropriately sized PSU.

The plan is to stay around 65% or under max load NOW so I have plenty of headroom room to upgrade the platform in the future.

An appropriately sized PSU for the system would be between 45% and 65% utilized under a gaming load of the system. NOT 80%.... One major upgrade and the system load could be at 90% to 100% load.

here's my data point: no issues with 850W and a 3080 on an older system. i did a 20-minute CPU+GPU burn in (~74C GPU, ~68C CPU - gotta work on the case fans), though i haven't hooked up the wattmeter yet. - Raidmax RX-850AE ("80 Plus Gold")
- 3080 FTW3 Ultra, stock power & clock (320W rating)
- ASUS P8P67 Pro (~100W max, but likely less normally)
- i5-2500K (rated 95W TDP, but probably around 100-105W with OC)
- 2x solid state drives
- 2x 7200RPM hard drives
- 3x 120mm fans, including CPU (will add 1-2 more)
- 1x optical drive (not spun up during test, but typically around 20W?)
- 3x low-current USB devices
i knew i wouldn't have any problems because i ran 2x GTX 770 in SLI for years with this same PS, and those cards are 230W each (total 3080 delta +140W).

Only been running benchmarks at stock and undervolted so far, so no real world gameplay experiences, but with my FTW3U I've been using a Corsair HX1000i with no problems. Biggest issue for me was the cable management. I had to resort to using 3 x 6+2 cables that also had a forked 6+2, so it looks like a mess now compared to before. So far, everything has been stable, but I've only put about eight hours in. Incidentally, I almost always overcompensate when it comes to power supplies, thinking that I will eventually upgrade to something that might require that much power, but never do. Glad I did the same thing as usual, because it seems to have finally paid off this time. At the stock settings, the card can spike as high as 381w very briefly, but when undervolting (and while keeping a consistently higher clock I might add...) it only ever jumps to a peak of 338w. Normally it's been oscillating between ~289 - 310 while undervolted. I know undervolting a FTW3U seems counterintuitive, but it really isn't if you are relying on air. The cards throttle way too much due to thermals, and it usually seems to only require hitting 70C before you get a lower clock. I've been keeping the card below 70C on air, and it's performing better than the stock configuration (basically the same frame rate but less noise and less power draw). Plus, I had already preordered prior to it being well known how inefficient and power hungry these cards are. Had I known, and had there actually been any reliable stock, I would have just spent $100 less and grabbed a TUF. At least I got a card though, so I don't have buyer's remorse. The rest of the system is just an overclocked 9600K, an Evo 860 Pro, an Evo 970, an Essence STX and three case fans.

probably! though, the i5-2500K's per-thread performance is still decent by today's standards; depending on how threaded a game is, my DDR3 RAM may be a bigger bottleneck. i just wanted to go RTX before Cyberpunk (1080 FTW2 before), but i'm going to build on a new mobo+CPU once the next gen of Intel is announced and they've been compared to the new AMD stuff. i'll be switching power supplies with the new build (SFF case), so it's nice to experiment with the power consumption with my current supply before buying another one. i could likely stick with something around 850W since the new system will likely use the same or less power (compact mobo vs. ATX, only SSDs internally, moving HDDs & optical to external).

I'll be getting my 3080 FTW3 Ultra tomorrow and I'm running a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 1050W. I'll report back on results after I get it. I'm planning on flashing the 450W bios.

Not hardly... There are a lot of PSU models out there, one heck of a lot of them. And we have a few 750W PSUs on the list. I put them in order so it could be a rough guide for troubleshooting, if it's a known working unit then they can look at other things. PSU wattage has NOTHING to do with transient power spikes. You could have a 1200W PSU and it could shut down as an example. The Transient power spikes can easily be double the measured power draw, although only for a few microseconds. It comes down to PSU design and how it handles them.

I'm spontaneously rebooting with: 3080FE SSR-1000TR (Seasonic 1000W Prime Ultra Titanium) I see that it's good on the list but I'm doing 1-2 reboots per day under load. Feel free to ignore if desired since it's not an EVGA card. Someone pointed me here as a reference. Someone also clarified for me that a reboot is a different thing that being discussed, most likely. I'll show myself out.

The PC rebooting is not the same as the PSU shutting down do to transient power spikes. The OCP kicks in and the PSU literally shuts down completely so you would have to flip the PSU switch off them back on for the PSU to start up again. Believe me it would shut down like someone flipped a switch.

Ok thanks. Yeah mine reboots as if there was a switch I'm pressing. No graphical issues or warning, just a clean reboot.

Depends on the actual model, they are different. The Prime non Ultra has issues, the Ultra and TX etc work. Although the 750W is on the light side for the FTW3 Ultra with the XOC Bios etc, they pull 500W+ Need at least a 850W for those.
