Hi all

I'm having some issues with my 1080 FTW that I sold on eBay recently - so looking for advice on both the GPU and eBay if anyone can help.

The GPU has arrived with the buyer however they are requesting a refund because, and I quote, 'the 3 year warranty sticker has been removed'. Now the sticker he is referring to is the little rectangular one that is on the back plate of some cards and not on the back of others. The black and white sticker with the serial number is still fully intact and on the back plate.

Firstly, from what I have read, I'm under the impression that sticker means nothing and is an indicator for EVGA staff to look at the GPU a little more if it is ever RMA'd.
Secondly, does anyone have experience with refusing a refund on eBay and winning? Everything I've said to eBay so far seems to be falling on deaf ears and I'm reading horror stories of cases going to review and the seller loosing out and having a refund automatically taken from PayPal and never receiving the product back. You may ask - why not just except the item back and refund it. Firstly, I dont see why I should need to if the GPU is working and the warranty sticker is in tact and also I had concern that the GPU may not be working when I get it back in my possession. For instance, the GPU was laid out on a office chair, made with fabric. No care had been taken regards anti-static at all.

Anyway, any help would be amazing. I have sent an email to the EVGA support address with a slim hope of concrete evidence this little sticker doesnt really mean anything. Fingers cross.

Thanks in advance

*edit - spelling*

Update - after opening a case with eBay, within 1 hour they have decided to go with the buyer. They are now saying that the GPU may have been dismantled, what difference that makes, I have no idea, that that's their reasoning for saying I have to give the refund. They have given me 5 days to arrange collection, otherwise they will refunded the customer and not make them return it.

Ill do my best to get the item back, and if needed, make the 3 hour drive to the address I posted it to, but I'll update this again once, if, I get the GPU back.

You need to talk to EBAY and explain that they can contact the manufacturer to verify that warranty is still intact. Also, did you describe any of this in the listing, and did you put that there was no refunds or returns?

I'm waiting back on my last reply to eBay so will certainly ask them to contact EVGA to confirm the warranty is still intact.

I didn't mention there was no rectangular sticker, but only because I had no idea of this. The GPU was unboxed, put in my machine and not taken out till the day I sold it. I'm only finding all this out now I've been forced into, if that makes sense.

As far as I was concerned I was selling my old GPU, in great condition, so I could afford an upgrade.

And yes I put that there were no refunds accepted on the listing

Re: Warranty sticker / eBay 2018/02/07 17:14:25 (permalink)
It isn’t a warranty sticker, so when taking to evga don’t refer to it as one. It is just so evga can be aware of the card was opened and they can check the pcb for damage.

I would not accept a return as this person may be trying to bait and switch the card for a dead card or a different model. EVGA two serial number stickers on their cards, and since they did on this card both will need to match if you get it back.

Request better pictures from the user.  Did you register your GPU to your account on here?  have you removed the card on your account?  If not, go look at your serial number and request close up pictures of both cards right away..

I circled the stickers for your reference:

That's exactly what I thought it was, just an indicator for EVGA staff.

And again that is my concern that they have my working card and send me back something I am then unable to resell.

One issue I have is that I have no way of knowing what my serial number was. I thought I had registered the card but it turns out I never so have no proof if they send back something else.

Just for reference this was the listing:

you put in the full link.. Remove the EBAY. part  instead of ebay.com/listing, just make it com/listing.  You need a few more posts before links will stick.

And reference my picture above.

I thought I had registered it as I was thinking of using the upgrade scheme. There was something going on when the original FTW came out and EVGA were offering an upgrade to the FTW2 for just $100. I was certain I had but its not on my account at all, just the new 1080ti Kingpin I picked up

Re: Warranty sticker / eBay 2018/02/07 17:30:35 (permalink)
Was that the only 3 pictures you took?

The only warranty sticker on the card is the one on the middle of the back plate circled in blue on both cards.  The Warranty sticker says "Warranty Void If Removed"

IF you can get a close enough picture to compare the serial number of the one you sent, which is conveniently scratched out in one picture but not the other two, then you may be able to see if they are trying to switch cards.  It would be extremely convenient to have the pictures to send to EBay as well.    Again, you need to see if it is in your product list at: https://eu.evga.com/community/myProducts.asp

IF your card was and is still registered, compare serial numbers asap.

Contact EVGA and see if they can see it attached to your account.  Sometimes they can see products that were unregistered.

My niavity and good willing nature never thought to take more pictures of the GPU serial number.

BTW that was me that scratched it out, just incase that is my GPU and I have to accept the return.

I'm starting to think this might be one of those (removed) life lessons where you learn not everyone is as nice as you and take the loss.

Never trust anyone.  I sold two cards the other day and trust both people very much, but I still take a ton of pictures because shipping companies are less than stellar sometimes.

Trust the buyer, but still make sure you make it a point to cover yourself.  And inspect that card extremely close if you have to take it back, but I would contact the buyer directly, and tag ebay, and explain that the warranty sticker is 100% intact and that the card is still under full warranty.

I will do so, and also again contact them to see if they can see the serial of my old card.

Thanks for the sound advice and time you've taken to answer my questions.

https://forums.evga.com/A-Problem-about-warranty-sticker-broken-a-sticker-strip-near-cap-screw-m2701705.aspx Also, you need to provide this to EBAY:  https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2701816  This is EVGA Directly acknowledging that the sticker is only to alert them, and that it does NOT affect warranty.

:-)  You ghosted while I was typing this.  There is your undeniable proof, and that person can not claim a refund per that, if that is the only reason they stated it.. Provide it to EBay before you tell the buyer.  Trust no one when it comes to your money.

It should be an open and closed case.. his issue was the warranty sticker and it's clearly still there so no issue. EBay should be fine and the buyer should be fine as that was his issue and he was wrong.

Whomever has a serial number --> just add it on this form https://www.evga.com/support/guestregister.asp
--> and the Number of Days of warranty can be checked by serial number  - based on when it left EVGA originally

--> if warranty restrictions are followed https://www.evga.com/support/warranty/

--> basically

1) serial number is not adulterated
2) No Physical damage
3) the card is complete - stock condition when returned

I would really like to think that, however I've been reading stories of people saying eBay almost exclusively side with the buyer. I guess I'm just being paranoid that they won't look into this case in the depth that I'd expect them to.

Thank you for the advice and links.

I originally bought it from Scan - an authorised UK seller and have the invoice and email from the purchase. I've personally not done anything at all to the item, I however can't say the same for the person who currently has it in their possession.

You'd have thought, but I always sell my items at a fair price. For instance this GPU sold for £525... There is a 1080 SC on auction for £620. I undersold the market as I dont like ripping people off.

The buyer claims to work for an IT shop and been in the business years and have another 1080 FTW to compare mine to.

I honestly get the feeling he is trying to bait and switch. It just feels off.

If they run an IT shop then they know that EVGA doesn't care about the little stickers and they are trying to do a bait and switch.  Everyone in the know, knows that EVGA let's you do pretty much whatever you want to your cards as long as you bring it back to factory prior to sending it in for RMA.  Whining about a sticker that has to be removed and will NEVER go back on after it's been removed, is a red flag if this person claims to be in IT for years and "owns" a shop.

Hey Signman86,

Unfortunately I can't quite make out the full serial number. 3 numbers in the middle are just a little too blurry.

Looks like 1612936286900248

That's after enlarging the pic and adjusting the brightness and contrast and a hint of sharpness hehe.

Hopefully he has an original uncompressed picture of it.. as you know you have to downsize and compress it to post on here.

Ahhh... another eBay horror story.

If there's one thing I've learned over the years it's to not sell on eBay.  They STRONGLY favor the buyer in just about every instance and the chances of getting hosed as a seller are higher than I'd like because so many people out there try to get things for free and will do whatever it takes to accomplish that.

In the end it's just not worth the hassle especially after you factor in EBay's cut... what is it? 20%?

Once I ditched eBay for good around 2012 I have stuck to cash transactions via Craigslist that include a meeting for the sale at a local coffee shop... or when I was selling a phone at the local wireless provider for verification so there would be no questions regarding the phone being clean.

Haven't had any issues.

Good luck OP!
