Hi all,

When Folding if I watch Youtube on Twitch I tend to get a fair amount of Lag/Buffering.

If I bought a secondary cheap GPU and ran my monitor from it would it stop this?

Thanks,
Paul

    Good question

I would think it would indeed help if your internet is not the issue, as long as you were not folding on the second card.

Do you have a good internet connection - Fast ?  Are you sharing the connection with other data intensive uses ?

When not Folding do you see the lag/ buffering ?

Most do not Fold on the CPU as it is not as energy/ PPD effective as a GPU.  Are you Folding on the CPU ?

    Hi,

Got a Fiber connection, and the lag isn't present when I turn off Folding so it's definitely down to it.  I don't Fold on my CPU either.

That is a good question for anyone folding or crunching. I use 2 GPUs and my cpu to fold and crunch on three separate computers. On one of the boxes  I have the monitor plugged into the mobo for video and the other two the card in position 1. I do not watch video on any of those except to make onsite changes to the project I am running. In that case does it make any difference where the monitor is plugged in to?
I use teamviewer to make most changes.

You can give this a try
One Day Attached Images will start working.
[turn off accelerated graphics] in your Browser

To disable hardware acceleration, follow these steps:

1.Click Start, and then click Internet Explorer.
2.Click the Tools icon in the upper-right corner, and then click Internet Options.
3.Click the Advanced tab, and then under Accelerated graphics, select the Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering check box.

What settings are you using for folding? Are you setting it to full? Giving it a higher priority in configuration? These will cause it to lag as it will compete with front and center processes.

i would disable hardware acceleration like bcavnaugh said first. if it still persists then a second GPU in your motherboard primary pcie socket that doesnt fold would be a solid second choice, as you can fold on that when you are not at your pc ;)

Or use an APU and set your desktop up to run on the APU's GPU (which would need a new system, but something to keep in mind for the future).

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.
