Paulo Elias Your advice is sound but you must take into consideration that any firmware update is designed to correct issues related to how a given piece of equipment should work. In my personal understanding it is not a bad idea to change the card's cooling curve given that it was meant to be pushed to the limits by end users. If there was no other reason, still this update was directed to the safe side of the card's operation, and this is enough for EVGA as the designer to suggest that the update should be performed. Furthermore, when done successfully it will just take a few seconds, no harm done!
Fair enough. :)

Hey guys I'd like to put in my two cents about this matter. I have the evga gtx 1080 sc and have played with doing zero fixes at first. the cards fan spun up loud on playing tomb raider max settings at 3440 x 1440 resolution fairly quickly, afterwards came across the old vrm thread few months ago. Since then I applied the new bios and verified that the fan curve was changed indeed and helped with temps much more. According to evga, that's all you need to do and just play, however I noticed that other members still were concerend with thermal pad issue, so I requested my free set. I took apart the card and it was not bad, just need a tiny flathead screw driver and to be careful unplugging attached fan. I then saw that my card didn't have full contact on vrm's just partial on some. Also, there are areas of the card with 0 thermal pads and I covered it with applied thicker thermal pad and applied back. There was minor cutting needed, but it's self explanatory and directions were provided. After reinstalling the card I played for hours and hours with temps even better and no worry of thermal pad contact. I don't understand why evga would not think we all need to swap thermal pads. I absolutely recommend everyone to get free kit and add it as the life of your card will be shorter without it if there is so much heat on the vrm. my .02

Hello, "Modded" my GTX1070 OC last week with the free thermal pad kit send to my home adress by EVGA. Installation was easy and it worked like a charm. Idle tempurature = 25 degrees. Great card and great service by EVGA!

I have an rma'd GTX 1060 SSC Gaming ACX 3.0 with the new cold plate on it. If I don't keep the fan speeds up higher with software this card experiences artifacts in games and it will cause the computer to reboot when it over heats. That's at totally as it came from the factory stock settings on the card. The bios they sent me via email doesn't work because I have an AMD chipset motherboard and I don't have an Intel one to try it with. It won't complete the flash. Not even in safe mode. As long as I keep a custom fan curve on it, it doesn't seem bothered by heat. But it's winter, what will happen when it's summertime and ambients are much higher. I don't like the fact that I have to have yet one more piece of software loading to make the fans work as they should to keep the card cool. I really think this card should have come with the latest fan curve bios flashed into it as it was supposed to have been one of the "fixed" cards. And these things ain't cheap either.

Support provide me stock bios but it was also 0 rpm bioses. Has anyone have the version which fans are constantly running %45 at idle?

I just bought a 1080 act 3.0 card that has the pad and vbios update but when I first plugged it in and installed the driver the fan would not run at all until I downloaded prec x and set it to auto. is that a side effect of the vbios or is that normal?

That's normal. Fans don't spin until the card reaches 60C IIRC. Old or new bios.

That would normally make sense but the card hit 93c and still no fan until I enabled it with evga precision x.

Good evening community. What is the normal temperature for a graphics card 1080 ftw. I have updated the vbios and installed the pads. The temperature in Far Cry 4, 69-71 С. In other games not yet test.. but would be grateful for your answers and normally I have a fever or not.

You are safe up to 85C. But normal temperatures are up to 75-80/82C. Lower-Better.

You can install Precision X and you will see temperature of GPU on monitor in games. Not only GPU temperature, you could set to monitor and other things, usage, voltage, framrate, fan speed...

Can I do one right after the other or do I have to restart for each one.

need your help, community I downloaded and tried the BIOS update. It's not working (both one from first post). All I get is a quick DOS window saying the flash will start and uploaded successfully, then the screen goes blank and then comes back up with a low resolution. After restarting, I get the same low res screen and when Precision tries to start, it says "No supported hardware". and how I have this, what I suppose to do now?

Have you contacted Customer Service regarding this? AMD chipsets will interfere with some BIOS updates on these graphics cards. We have updates we can provide you if you are using an AMD motherboard.

What kind of motherboard do you have? Did you extract the BIOS update utility from the Zip file before attempting to flash? Did you try running the update file as an administrator?

It's been awhile that I've browsed the forums, but found the same BIOS you did and gave it a try on my same card. Works fine, but does idle back at 0 RPM again. Tech support sent me 86.06.27.01.60 (several months ago) which is a nice compromise and I went back to that. You might want to ask them to send it to you also. There's the "original" bios on the first page as well but I don't know whether it's the original loud version that is aggressive or just the original 0 RPM version. If you fixed this already, never mind.

Google results for 1070 ftw bios switch: It's exactly the same as the 1080, so don't worry about that. Look at the back plate of your card, and it has a designation that states "master" or "slave". Move the switch to the side you want. The oracle (Google images) is your friend when trying to find things.
