I bought my 1080 gtx ftw from Amazon because I had a discount. When I receive the package I won't be opening it for a while at least until January. Is there a way to understand from outside of the box whether my card is the most recent version with all the new updates and thermal pads installed?

Recived my thermal pads today I had no issue with temps before the new bios arrived, i had no problem with temps after the new bios arrived and have no problem with temps with the new bios and thermal pads mounted. In my case the temps went from 73C (stock bios), 68C (new bios) to 62C (new bios + thermal pads). The temps were the maxed out temps on heavy gaming. I noticed the temp dropped 6C with the thermal pads, but the fan speed has also dropped. So I can't complain EDIT: EVGA 1070 FTW

Does the 1080 FTW card have a place where we can plug a cable to extend the hdmi port to the front of the case just like on the gigabyte gaming express to connect an Oculus Rift easier? And another question about the thermal pads. I've just ordered the 1080 FTW from Amazon and I'll be receiving it tomorrow. Is there a way to find out if the card has the thermal pads already factory installed or not?

alisle i ordered a 1080 ftw from amazon when they came back in stock on november 30th. just came today and i can report its from the new batch. already has the thermal mod and vbios. i checked by looking up its serial number on evga thermal mod request page before i even took it out of the box lol.
Hey this was the info that I was looking for. I also bought my 1080 FTW from Amazon and I was wondering if there was a way to find out if the box is from the new batch. I'm not going to open my box for about 1 month. How will I know that my card has the thermal pads installed on it without opening the box? Does the thermalmod page tell you what updates your card have when you checked the serial number? This is the answer that I received from EVGA when I asked the same question: "Hello, Thank you for contacting us today. It is very unlikely that your card already has the thermal pad installed. If it does, you can see the thermal pad on the backplate in the large vent. You can also type in your serial number here: . This should tell you if your card can use any of the modifications. " Now I'm a little confused. Why do they say that it is unlikely that the card already has the thermal pad installed?

I also ordered a card from Amazon in December and it didn't have the pads installed. In fact when I ran the S/N via EVGA's website it indicated that they recommended both the bios update and the thermal pad application and showed a manufacture date of September. I presume there were large batch of shipments to vendors that were "pre-mod." The S/N is on the exterior of the box so you can see it without opening the packaging. That's how I checked my S/N. In order to guarantee receiving a "post-mod" card I suggest that folks order from EVGA directly.

Do you think I can change the card that I bought from Amazon from EVGA without opening the box? If it's not post-mod of course? Can you share what your serial number check result from thermalmod page? And finally what did you do to resolve the problem?

I edited my post to provide more information. I never opened my card up. I eventually requested an advanced RMA with EVGA. They were excellent to deal with but it's a multi-step process that takes a few days. Basically, once it all goes through they will ship you a new card and when you receive it you will send your original to them.

installed the thermal pads which was simple, so all is good but I downloaded the fan curve bios for my 1070 and it still has 0% fan speed on idle? I thought there would have been some sort of fan speed on idle? I don't want to set a custom fan profile because it's a pain and having msi afterburner or precision running in the background feels a bit input laggy in games. Anyone on here have different outcome with the bios?

Why would you want to have a spinning fan at idle Thisiswar88? I received my pads today and they're installed. Temps are fine so I guess I applied the thermal paste correctly. Disconnecting the LED- and fanheaders was painful though. They're difficult to reach, have stubborn connectors and fragile wires. I'm glad all went well.

That isnt "hot" that is blown. There is a difference. You need to set up a RMA if this is your card.

for better temps on idle and also better temps while on load. The fans kick in around 50c and the fans speeds are still low! I'd like to have cool as possible temps. all my previous cards have sat at 25c/26c idle and never went over 55c on load due to a nice built in fan curve but with the 1070 temps can get to 65c in not that demanding games. The fans are silent too so I really don't understand why they haven't done a fan curve for idle ect. Even having a 15% fan speed on idle and gradually builds up depending on the temps. If I set a fan curve for 35% once it hits 50c it never goes over 50c, it's just sad how they haven't went down this route. All this 0% fan nonsense needs to stop. If the fans are silent which they are then why not make the most of them and make the cards have amazing temps. Think this will be my last evga product after the 10 year warranty runs out. no thermal pads on cards from the get go and s**t fan speeds once they kick in!.

Applied the new pads and did the full works on my EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Had no real issue`s before, but general performance is better. Thermal limits aren`t reached anymore running stock when testing with Furmark, and fan-speeds stay between 8-12% lower compaired to prior. Still running the original bios, and the same custom fan-profile as before. Happy so far, although it took me almost an hour to do the mod. As for the noise and performance, IT`s WORTH IT. Edit: Bios version- Original - 86.04.17.00.80 Fan-profile custom comparison to the past: (50% min until 60Degrees C - 100% at 85Degrees C) NEW - OLD 3D-Mark - 58% - 67% Furmark - 63% - 70% Gaming - 55% - 60% Spinning up/down and speed variations are now less noticable. No framedrops/throttling during Valley benchmark anymore.

Request Shipped 11/28/2016 (Please allow 1-2 weeks for delivery). (GTX 1080 SC) Received pads a few days ago. For me, the most difficult part was getting a fan connector to let go. After removing all the plates, I found 3 almost completely dry vram chips that did not have proper contact with the thermal compound. With the mod complete, the gpu temps are just a few degrees lower. Now I am going to test overclocking the VRAM again as before I did manage to do a great oc but only for a short time and with very low temps. Maybe it was the insufficient cooling that held the ram back, I am going to game for a few hours now with the ram set to 5750 Mhz to find out

Some members still have the idea that checking GPU temp using GPU-z or any monitoring program is useful for checking this problem. It's not. The whole reason for previous panic etc is because there are NO thermal monitors attached to VRAM or Mosfets (that's normal). EVGA have done a stellar job of keeping the GPU chip itself nice and cool. In other words no one could be sure if this problem affected them or not. All seemed fine to me, but I did all the mods and Bios updates regardless. But this was for piece of mind. I had no evidence ever of any HW issues with my card. Of course GPU temp may change a few degrees before/after the mods as they alter the dynamic of the card, quite a bit of thermal tape. Additionally speeding up the fans manual or new BIOS is bound to show improvement to GPU chip temp. There is no way to know about the components in question unless one has the resources, like Hexus, to check. Even the thermal images don't prove anything really. But drilling and sticking temp probes on these parts (as was finally done) did indeed reveal the real temps of these components. After a few months of worry, and checking every "reliable," source, and doing all Mods it's only now that I am realizing this whole thing was blown out of proportion. There were problems on some cards (I've seen three burnt ones) but the ratio of failure is well below 1% - so far, which is good. There cannot have been a basic engineering flaw in these cards (but, granted, tape that doesn't touch what is should is bad.) Why am I so sure? A cool look at the best figures available which shows a very low card failure rate overall. I am as bad as anyone here. I thought my card was screwed. I couldn't believe EVGA did this. I wanted money back and free games. Looking back I never experienced any kind of issue at all. Still glad I did all the mods, but probably this is more important for piece of mind, actively doing something. But on a purely logical level (not possible for me with high cost components) in all likely hood they weren't necessary. That's how I see it now. It's opinion. Not a declaration of facts.

Can we please stop telling that !!! You are right yes... BUT we have A LOT of differents tests now with VRM and GPU temperatures each time. If you look at that, you can see there's always a difference between 15/30 degres more for the VRM in comparaison with the GPU temp... Of course the difference is higher when the GPU is hotter... I have a 50 degres max temperatures for my GPU, you really think I will have more than 80/85 degres for my VRAM ?? I'm pretty sure its not more than 70 degres in my case, I know I can be sure but I have facts on my side :D
