Anarion This is somewhat annoying... The BIOS changed the fan speed so that now it's quite often between 1100 RPM and 1200 RPM. However... At that range fan motors makes somewhat annoying noise and it's much more audible than even at 1350 RPM. So I didn't imagine it. My 1070SC has the same strange whirring noise at exactly 33% (1210rpm) in EVGA Precision. At 32% (1170rpm) and 34% (1240rpm) there's no noise. Very odd. Thankfully on my card the fans remain below 1100rpm @64C, which is the max temp in the games I tested. Maybe because I have a sidemounted fan in my case pointed directly at the graphics card?
In my case it makes that annoying noise at 32% and 33%. So it looks like it's a "feature" of this particular fan.

Luta Wicasa As soon as you open that link is the accessory list....note the "3 x VRAM Thermal Pads" illustration. That is followed with disassembly instructs etc. Reading is fundamental
Don't be cheeky mate. Quite capable of reading some very simple instructions. When I click on that link I go to the original installation guide (IE. there are only two thermal pads mentioned). And these are the ones that go on the front and the back of the VRM area. No mention of 3xVRM thermal pads. Looks like you are linking to something other than what I get (somehow).

Don't think I am friend. The pads in the linked installation guide are for cooling the VRM area. The VRAM modules are under the centre plate surrounding the GPU. The guide that Jacob links to is the original guide and has been around for a week or more.
Here, since you obviously don't read good.
5) Remove the baseplate and set it aside. Peel off the 8 (eight) VRAM thermal pads on the baseplate, outlined in red. ... 8) Install the included VRAM thermal pads directly to the memory chips, making sure to remove the plastic on both sides.
Don't be so damn rude. Try reading the last post I just put up. Everyone tries so hard to be a smart Vulgar language removed on this forum. The guide I go to when clicking on the link gives: 5) Next, apply the “Narrow” thermal pad to the area marked in the image. Remove the plastic on one side and place the thermal pad strip over the area outlined in the image. Finally, remove the plastic from the other side of the pad. The baseplate should look like this when finished: Make sure that the thermal pad does not extend beyond the edges of the baseplate ........... 8) Once the backplate is off, turn it over and remove the outlined rubber standoffs: So somehow, I'm still linking to the old guide. Posting vulgar language is not allowed per the terms of service. This includes masking words and slightly changing the spelling

Maybe call your ISP because you're on a different internet than everybody else. Or maybe just try clearing your internet cache/history When I click on it it goes to the new updated instructions. When I clicked on it 2 hours ago on my phone it went to the new updated thermal mod instructions. I'm not rude. You're wrong and belligerent.

Could you be seeing a cached copy or something? Because when I open the guide from that link, the VRAM pads are shown and there is an entire section that shows removing the baseplate, removing the old VRAM pads, and installing the new ones. The guide has been updated for the VRAM pads. Not sure why you aren't seeing it -- but I'm guessing the old version is cached on your machine so you aren't getting the new version.

Could you be seeing a cached copy or something? My 1070SC has the high pitch annoying noise when the fan speed between 1100 RPM and 1200 RPM. Should I RMA my graphics card?

Holy crap. This BIOS update dropped my temps by only like 5 degrees, but jesus christ its like a 747 sitting next to me this is ridiculous MSI afterburner reading 6000 RPMs!!!!!!!! Spiking like crazy!!!!

That is weird. I'm on the latest bios, no where near 6000RPMs. even at 100% that would be 3500-3600rpms

unfortunately my problem seems to stem even further. I've tried installing older drivers and using other programs to set the fan curve but nothing fixes these RIDICULOUS spikes!

Replaced the VRAM and mosfet pads today with 1.5mm Phobia ones and contact was much better. On a side note, what brand pads are EVGA using I've never come across a pad that's been so greasy and leaves so much residue on anything it contacts. I've used EK branded pads, Thermal Grizzly, Alphacool, Heatkiller and Koolance but none of them have or leave this nasty greasy residue. Not sure if i't a good thing but it's a pain in the ass to clean off. Had to go over the VRAM several times using Arctic Silver ArtiClean to remove the greasy film it left behind.

Ok Thanks, actually I knew the thickness for Baseplate and Backplate. But the newer additon i.e 3x VRAM pads. How thick are they? I read a post above that said 1.5mm is good. Sounds right but I would like to be sure. ONLY about VRAM pads. Other original ones have been available thickness for ages. Thanks.

Are the thermal pads that are being sent out going to include the VRAM pads in addition to the baseplate and backplate pads?
Yes, that's right for any kits sent out since VRAM pads were added. But we don't know the thickness of the VRAM pads. The other two are posted everywhere. I am going to buy and do this myself, already have 1mm pads, and 2mm pads as per GTX1080 FTW. But I don't want to buy the wrong thickness VRAM pads. Currently sounds like 1.5mm would be good, but I'd like clarification.

I replaced my vram pads today and the stock ones on the 1070ftw appear to be 1mm. I replaced them with 1.5mm and the new ones are ever so slightly thicker.

Anarion This is somewhat annoying... The BIOS changed the fan speed so that now it's quite often between 1100 RPM and 1200 RPM. However... At that range fan motors makes somewhat annoying noise and it's much more audible than even at 1350 RPM. So I didn't imagine it. My 1070SC has the same strange whirring noise at exactly 33% (1210rpm) in EVGA Precision. At 32% (1170rpm) and 34% (1240rpm) there's no noise. Very odd. Thankfully on my card the fans remain below 1100rpm @64C, which is the max temp in the games I tested. Maybe because I have a sidemounted fan in my case pointed directly at the graphics card?
In my case it makes that annoying noise at 32% and 33%. So it looks like it's a "feature" of this particular fan.
My 1070SC has the high pitch annoying noise when the fan speed between 1100 RPM and 1200 RPM. Should I RMA my graphics card?
I guess that's just how these fans are. They should make the BIOS so that it jumps from ~1050 RPM to 1250-1350 RPM directly skipping that range since all these fans seem to make really annoying noises at 1100 RPM - 1200 RPM range. I must say that the noise is really, really annoying though without custom fan curve.

GPU might run very cool but the VRM could be well past the boiling point.

Just update primary bios again and you will have 0rpm up to 55 degrees.
