Noob question, I got a new PSU RM850 for the 3080.
Only have two pcie 6+2 cables, because marketing says there are 4 but it’s just 2 with two splitters.. what is the correct way to do this? Make the third connector on the gpu connected to one of the splitters? Or doesn’t matter? I thought maybe one is only for a common ground or something.
Btw the 3080 is really shipped now I hope, first mail from evga was yesterday but wasn’t really shipped.

It was a bad design choice. Apparently they refreshed the model in 2021, after Ampere and the possible pigtail issues surfaced. If you eventually end up OCing heavily, who knows, those 850W may not be enough for the peak demands. I wanted to be on the safe side and since Seasonic Platinum was a given choice for me, I just went with 1000W instead. I can't see any peaks but the way I've set mine up with Afterburner with 1935 @0.9V it pulls in the 200-250ish range. Without that profile it's a tad over 100W more without logging and analyzing, mainly seeing a value on my AIDA64 display panel.

Had my 3070 oc’ed with my 12700k on a 650w
But because of the undervolt it didn’t had that much of an impact I guess.

Damn that firmware update had me ****ting my pants 😅
It’s all up and running, took a while to get the fancurve normal because idle 60c felt quite high. My 3070 was idle stock on 40!

I hope so aswell. I entered the queue on 02nd July 2021, waiting for step 1 of course. I just keep my hopes up to receive the 3080 someday, as I don’t plan to buy the upcoming generation. My step up costs coming from a 3070ti ftw3 are still at 7,95€ and I wish for it to not change.

It’s all up and running, took a while to get the fancurve normal because idle 60c felt quite high. My 3070 was idle stock on 40!
Was something wrong that made you go for the update? I haven't even installed the software, went for the RGB settings with OpenRGB. 60C idle works out though. Around 61-62C with consistant load the fans eventually turn on and do their job immediately. wr2champ

Nice! Would be silly not to grab the basically free upgrade. Unless pricing suddenly changes it should remain the same for you. 789.99 EUR + VAT minus what it says on your invoice for the 3070Ti.

As if I summoned the step 2 through posting here, I just got the mail from evga xD Invoice is being checked, let's see how long it takes. I uploaded it during my initial step up setup a year and 3 months ago (wow). I couldn't find a way to check, if they still got it uploaded or not. I'm a bit nervous in case they don't have it anymore. Should I just upload it again to be safe?

Sweet! Easter will delay things a bit, that's Friday and Monday gone. If you've uploaded your invoice it'll be there. Just wait a bit for that Step3 and it'll come. Just had a look as well but couldn't see anything in my account. IIRC we received an email after uploading. So let's hope they found more than one card and will keep the train moving :D

Nope, just thought let’s update the firmware. Also did the aggressive fan curve. Don’t mind the noise since almost always wear a headset.

Nice! They got back to me on Thursday after sending the initial step 2 mail and asked if my address is still up to date. After confirming it they said, they'd forward everything to the step up service guys and I should hear back soon. Hopefully I'll get an update tommorow.

Got to step 3 today with the payment info and suddenly the price jumped for me :/ Used to be around 840€ or so, now it's 940€. Which means my step up fee almost doubled from 120€ to 217€...kinda disappointing, especially now since GPU prices are starting to fall again. Paid 720€ for my 3070 back then. Which looking back from now, seems like an ok price but I only paid "that much" with the 120€ step up cost in mind. Whelp, what can you do I guess

IIRC the price went up about a year ago. Hah pretty much a year ago. April 16 was the cut off date for StepUp. It really sucked, doubly so because prices have come down, but without comparing apples to pears, our StepUp price is still alright. It would have been awesome if it hadn't taken this long. Looking at price comparisons I can get another 3080 10GB a tad cheaper than the FTW3 Ultra, but then it'll be a Manli or whatever flavour has the lowest price now. At that price increase point EVGA should have updated the StepUp info in our accounts but given the absolute lack of transparency of the process, it's not that surprising it never happened until our number got eventually pulled. There's always room for improvement.

Yea I guess so. At least it is one of the best 10GB 3080 cards around and looking around price compare sites, it seems like it never really was available under 1200€. But I agree, the lack of transparence from EVGA is pretty damn annoying. I also don't expect them to lower the price anytime soon. Why would they, it's not like the satisfaction of their more loyal customers seems to have any priority with them.

Yeah you still have to pay, getting it there is your responsibility. They just provided the unpaid label to make it more convenient. BTW do not forget to insure the package appropriately. IIRC most providers cap the value way under what our old cards were worth. I think I paid 6 EUR extra via DHL. The shipping costs included in our StepUp calculation is one way, from them to us.
