AHowes2 1080s will be awesome for either 1440 or 4k. A single Titan I hear is not enough for 60fps in 4k with everything maxed.
The Titan is only 20-30% faster then a 1080. If that's worth an extra $500+ then go for it.. but 2 1080s in sli will drag that Titan in any game that uses sli. In anything but a AAA game released in the last year or so I can peg 60 fps at the highest settings with my single OCed 1080 SC in my signature rig with my 4K monitor. And some AAA games, like DOOM, thanks to the Vulkan library I'm up more like in the 90s at absolute ultra (my monitor is limited to 60Hz though). In The Division I'm around 60 at highish settings, and with absolutely maxed ultra settings it's like high 40s. The quality sacrifices to get from the 40s up to 60 aren't actually that bad, mostly things like ambient occlusion, keeping AA off, and possibly some shadow quality. With my Xeon system to get up to 60 fps my shadows were so low quality that they looked blocky and pathetic, since my rebuild with the 6900 I'm up close to 60 with shadows at a little higher quality so that they don't have to look blocky anymore. My goal is to pick up another 1080 SC in the next three months or so (maybe for Christmas) and go SLI, and to that end I picked up the EVGA HB bridge recently when it became available. This will absolutely peg any game I currently own. I'm hoping that sometime in the next couple of years I'll be able to get a 120Hz 4K g-sync monitor, and that the 1080 SLI setup will at least get me up around 90-100 fps and look nice on a monitor like that. Plus a second 1080 will make a good folding rig into quite the folding monster. Anyhow, I'd love to have a Titan XP instead of a 1080, because that would actually peg anything I currently play at ultra with 60 fps at least. Even if it's only 20-30% faster, that's still enough to close the gap to 60 fps in pretty much any game. And Titan XP SLI would go a long way toward pegging a 120hz 4K monitor as they become available. I'm just worried that I'll fork out for a 2nd 1080 and then a few months later a card will come out for a similar cost that would do most of what a 1080 SLI setup can do in a single card. Single card solutions are always better, not just because SLI isn't universally supported, but also because SLI setups have greater frametime variance, for a reduced quality (whether it's still noticeable or not I don't know, but it's measurable). Anyhow, my hat's off to anyone who forks out for a Titan XP. I mean, if they have the money, why not? And if they don't, it at least gives the rest of us something to daydream about. I bet with VR headsets starting to come into use, a Titan XP would rock that. Vive + Titan XP sounds like a winner.

Viper453 yeah it is time start water cooling gpus it looks like. Until a few weeks ago I water cooled only my cpu. I decided to try the EK full coverage block on my 1080, though, and I'm thoroughly converted now. My 1080 OCs significantly better with the EK block on than it did on air. I understand not everyone has that experience, because the lottery is still in effect, but I was lucky enough that water cooling my 1080 has added a good 80-100 MHz to what I can run stably in games, benchmarks, folding, etc. I just love looking at that 1080 running at 2088-2139 MHz with occasional 2152* MHz fully loaded at 42-45 C. *I was able to complete benchmarks at 2152Mhz but had some occasional (every few hours) driver crashes in Battlefield 1, but at 2139 Mhz it's rock solid, and I tune it down to 2088 for folding 24/7 when I'm not gaming, and it's been rock solid (no reported errors during work units) for like 3 days now at around 43-45 C at 2088 Mhz folding every minute I'm not playing a game.

Once you go water, it's hard to go back. Gpus usually drop 20 to 30 degrees full load. I'm seeing that the Titan xp under water no longer has the throttling effect. And warrants another 15 to 20fps over what it was already getting at 1440p which was about 20fps more than a 1080. Currently awaiting a response from newegg for a full refund. Think for once I'm gonna bite the bullet and get the top tier card. Only once ever bought an extreme Intel processor back in the core 2 days

ksgnow2010 Not really sure...I will bet that the gap narrows some with driver optimization. Edit: There is another price to be paid...the Titan X Pascal is REALLY LOUD when running...the 1080 FTW is pretty darn quiet.
I have mine finally and can say yes, that thing is a jet plane!!! lol. Ordered waterblock tonight.

At the end of the day, even if you have the disposable income, think about the price/performance ratio. Think about the message you're sending to nVidia by shelling out $1200.00 for it. What will they charge for the "Titan X (Volta)?" Forget that. I'll enjoy the performance of the 1080 and move to a 1080 Ti this January.

Good for you! I have a 1080 FTW and a Titan X P...love both cards...but the Titan X P SMOKES the 1080 FTW...and both are heavily overclocked. My main use is folding, followed by gaming. The message I am sending to NVIDIA, is that I love their hardware. I'll skip the 1080 Ti...the Titan X P is way faster than this card will be...and not a worthy upgrade from a 980 Ti or 1080...and I'll buy Volta when it comes out. Why change out the hardware so often you ask? Well, my folding rigs draw about 1.1 KW of power...24/7... I increase my folding output by upgrading to the latest hardware...rather then building another rig to draw 650 W. The payback on a $1,200 investment at my electric rates is about 8 months. Why do I fold...that's a personal matter...

I spent a bit of time walking through the 1080 FTW...span fin up...black screen thread. I counted about 75 people complaining about the problem. Assuming they built their PC correctly, have done their troubleshooting correctly, have a stable CPU/memory overclock, a proper power supply, etc...I think "hit or miss" is a bit strong...it looks like there was a bad delivery of boards. I link a decent percentage of the people reporting the issue are trying to "trade up" on the silicon lottery for free. Nevertheless, EVGA tech support has been awesome to these guys...as always. And, the Titan X P is fantastic...just need to figure out how to quiet the hair dryer (without dropping $500 on a custom loop that I'll have to maintain...too busy for that).

I'm also migrating from 1080 to Titanxp, does the Titan blower is a lot more noisier if compared to the FE 1080? I'm really worried about that. Tks

My 980 Ti at 1555 gets anywhere from ~700K to 1M PPD depending on the WU.
What's the lowest PPD that youve seen so far?

Tks
Reviews I've read, got to keep it cool = 100 % fan = Noise or go underwater Link1 Link2 I've ordered some EK GPU blocks

I already have a loop that had 2 360 rads and a 240, but gonna drop down to just 2 360's to cool 5930K @ 4.4 and the Titan XP. Only bought the block and back plate for it. Have the rest already. Using a Corsir 100I V2 for now because I didntr wantr to drain, refill and drain and refill again until I had a gpu block.

Nice. I'll have the same scenario, headphones+2xOCed Txps. The OCed clocks are constant or have some drops due to temps and GPU Boost 3.0? If possible, could you please post a hardware monitor with the clocks and temps? Thanks a lot.

I wasn't able to find away to monitor the hardware being limited to msi after burner but i am able to stay above 1.97ghz in Deus Ex Mankind Divided using 180 gpu/496 mem profile. I was using more than 10 gb of vram from time to time.
