The Ghost Gunner is a small CNC milling machine that costs a mere $1200 and is capable of spitting out an aluminum lower receiver for an AR-15 rifle. This device allows people with no gunsmith training to assemble a working assault rifle at home with no licensing or serial number and it’s completely legal. The Ghost Gunner itself is a small box about one foot on each side. Inside is an Arduino controller and a custom-designed spindle that holds a steel carbide drill bit. It works like any other CNC machine the drill spins up and moves in three dimensions to carve items out of blocks of metal. However, this machine is specifically intended to make an AR-15 lower receiver. That’s the part of a gun that connects the stock, barrel, and magazine. You could say it’s the “gun” part of a gun. It’s also the part that’s regulated by the ATF and assigned a serial number. Selling it without a license is illegal, but making it yourself is perfectly fine. An untraceable gun built without a serial number is often called a “ghost gun” by gun control advocates, so of course Defense Distributed borrowed the term to piss people off. The Ghost Gunner is capable of making anything that fits in the build envelope, as long as it’s created with Defense Distributed’s Physibles Development SDK (pDev) and distributed as a .dd file.  Whether or not you agree with Defense Distributed on the value of untraceable firearms in a "free society", this is happening and regulation is miles behind the technological curve in which I must say, that I agree with this technology 100%.

This is awesome tbh. I can't watch the video because I'm at work, but I'm wondering if it can make other receivers if programmed right? I'd love to make myself a good 'ol AK-47, or M4/M16/etc etc.

After reading the entire article, all I can say is lol. Leaving politics/other personal opinions out of the equation, wether you have to have a serial on it or not, a mentally unstable person, or criminal is going to find a way to kill whoever it is they want dead. Nobody carries guns around, so a Katana or Machete is just as effective as an AR15 is at killing say, college students? Or random people in a movie theater? I remember reading an article about a mentally unstable guy went on a rampage with a kitchen knife in China or one of those countries at a school, killing like 30-50 kids or something like that. Seriously, cops take 7-15 minutes to respond. How many people could someone kill in that amount of time?

They can kill a lot bro. Just chunk a grenade and there you go. Or use some type of homemade explosive device. Many people tend to forget that you can use off the shelf cleaning products that you can mix together to make a gas and harm people as well. Also I remember that China stabbing that you mentioned. Its actually 22 children in which you can find the article here.

But anyways if I do get one of these parts, I am going to cerakote the receiver to a coyote tan just like my gun in my picture as well as the other parts to the AR-15.  I would want mine to look this. I just would need to find some one who knows how to do it as perfect as can be.

This is so dumb in many ways. Just get a normal CNC, not one where they are just making it to have people troll politics back and forth between talking heads. This has irrational people on both side circling it like vultures. A regular CNC machine does the same things minus to drama queens. All this is, is shrewd marketing and playing people as irrational fools about a topic they are fanatic about.

You also need to start with 80% pre machined lower. This is just a pre-programed cnc finishing box. Brad is mostly right its gimmic marketing, that being said i thought about buying one. I build 4-5 ar's a year for people and it would be kind of cool to have my own logo on it.

+1 on the marketing gimmicks, but I'm to stupid to buy a cnc and do it myself, so this 'plug and play' is good for people like me.

    OR
you can save 1,200 bucks and buy an entire ar-15, and have money left over to mod it.

Or you can just buy the 3D printed receiver and then just buy the rest of the pieces to put together. Then you will be able to have a gun that has no stupid serial number so you can avoid the unconstitutional gun registration.

Man your lucky! I hate that stupid FFL crap so ridiculous. I dont know brotha some people dont treat and take care of their guns right so I am very anal about getting a used gun. I mean if the buyer would allow you to test fire and cycle a couple hundred rounds through it before you make a deal then I will feel more comfortable with doing it. But I suggest you bringing your favorite ammunition grain for that type of caliber on whatever the seller's gun is.

Or I can save about $1050 plus the cost of the Aluminum billet and the huge headache of trying to learn how to use a CNC for the first time and just buy a stripped lower online and have it shipped to a local FFL, pay them $20 to do the transfer to me and viola I have my lower. If you live in a state where AR-15's are legal, then why the hell would you buy a CNC just to make the lowers? The only reason you would want to make your own lowers is if you can't pass the background check, they're illegal in your state, or you already own a milling machine and you want to save a few bucks and enjoy making your own.

Say the Ghost Gunner is a "gimmick".  What CNC mill can finish, or better yet, create a complete lower receiver from a block of aluminum for $1200 or less?  based off what I've read such mills cost several thousand dollars.

Yeah buying a stripped lower and adding the parts you need is probably better too.

This is just a gimmick to make people mad. If anything it hurts gun rights.
For example when those guys made the plastic lower from a 3D printer during the height of this anti gun movement it just made more fear and laws against guns.

I'm still looking into an affordable and easy way to finish or even make a lower receiver.  I've seen people talk about jigs and drill presses.  I don't know....  If I invest a fat chunk of change I'd like to be able to do more than just ARs.  Maybe AKs or teeny tiny figurines or something.  I don't know.  Gotta recoup that investment cost somehow...
