On Monday, the Texas House of Representatives passed House Bill 910 with a vote of 101-42.  Now on to Gov. Greg Abbot to be signed into law which he has already vowed to do.

Wish my state (Oklahoma) would hurry up and pass bill HB1936 that would reduce the cost of carry permits.
    Old price $125 for 5yr  or $200 for 10yr
    New price would be $25

It would do away with expensive OSBI background checks and replace it with instant NICS checks. They do NICS checks when you purchase guns, that should be enough to qualify for carry permit too.

We still have to pay $60-70 for concealed carry training class.

Agreed. I don't see the point, personally. It's certainly not the best method for self defense. Now if your mainly concerned with just looking like a bad boy, it's perfect, but I'll be darned if I'm going to make myself a target.

Finally someone who gets it. Open carry is like wearing a shirt that says 'want to do something bad? Make sure you shoot me first!!' Concealed carry is the way to go for sure.

I don't have a problem with people open carrying. It can help to prevent bad things from happening if people see someone is armed. It makes criminals wonder if that person might be a off duty law enforcement and who else might be carrying a firearm.

My choice would be to conceal carry. The only time i would want to open carry is if i was going fishing or camping.

I don't care about open carry for the most part...

I do care that people aren't aware of their surroundings and someone grabs their weapon .....

If people are aware ...it's fine. Guns don't bother me until/unless they're pointed at me..just seeing one makes someone
    freak out?

That person who freaks out has an issue...Guns don't kill people...PEOPLE kill people...so tired of whiners ...

Actually this is different this time. They are doing training exercises off base in neighborhoods this time.

For the record, I don't plan to openly carry.  The only reason I care is that it eliminates all worry surrounding the accidental exposure of my weapon in public.  I don't have to worry about printing anymore.

I agree...I think getting in trouble for accidentally exposing your weapon in conceal carry is stupid...people freak out too easily about a tool ..

I agree, nice simple background check and no permit needed.
Not so sure I like open carry, rather it be concealed with no permit needed.
Police may have a hard time figuring out who the good/bad guys are when they arrive if they see a few people with sidearms on the hip in the open.

If I was a police officer, I think I'd rather know who's packing heat then not knowing who is, but that's me.

Weird how you have to write a law for a right that already exists.

Why didn't they just repeal what banned it in the first place?

For example, in PA, there's nothing banning open carry, so it's legal by default.

In any case, congrats to Texas.

Open carry has been around since the beginning of the republic, and it's quite prevalent in PA. Texas legalizing it isn't the beginning.

This is exactly what I was thinking as well.  I'm for carrying, if you are open or concealed, fine by me, just be responsible and it is none of my business.  Fines for accidental exposure is ridiculous, this will be a big plus there.

Could not agree more.  It is Constitutionally protected and it should be, it is an integral part of our freedom.  Also, it is an excellent crime deterrent.  Good buddy of mine lives in PA and he has told em all about the freedom there and them following the second Amendment.

Also agreed, but I have to say better late than never.  More states need to be like PA.

Better late than never is a nicer way of putting it. :)

I just tire of reading "gotta love Texas" type comments regarding this news, as if Texas is the be all end all of firearms freedom. They're actually very restrictive.

Agreed, any and all firearm laws are illegal and unconstitutional.
Also agreed, Texas is definitely more restrictive than a lot of places, but I'm in Cali, so Texas is a HUGE step forward from what I am used to.

I honestly have not looked at all of the states laws, but there are some definitely better than Texas, the rest of the nation needs to take a page from PA's book on how to do this.

PA could use some improvement. We still have licenses for concealed carry. There are rumblings of constitutional carry but now that we have an anti governor, I don't see that happening anytime soon.
