How much longer before EVGA completly closes their doors?

don't get me wrong, EVGA was my favorite video card manufacture, for more than a decade I was only buying EVGA video cards, but I don't see any future ahead of them.

Sounds like the original BIOS team has already left the company and now they're trying to hire some temps to do one last update

Funny enough EVGATech_ChrisB said on 31th of August that they are "already working on it", idk who is lying now.

Probably soon... their support became a joke.

Dear friends, has anyone tried if the 14900k on the Z790 DK runs on the actual released BIOS?
After reading everything written above, I too feel the urge to say goodbye to EVGA.

I'm guessing that the likelihood of a BIOS update is similar to the likelihood of the 'renovations' to ModsRigs being completed.

Is there much point 'upgrading' from 13900k to 14900k anyway? Cache and power limits are the same, P-core and E-core count is the same, just the spec clocks are a little higher on the newer CPU, which is relatively easy to achieve with a small manual OC on the 13900K, depending on the individual chip. Other than that, on paper they're almost identical CPU's. Some performance improvements at spec, as you can see in this review, but otherwise.. meh.

Seems the biggest advantage in EVGA putting out an updated BIOS would be resale value for the motherboard. :)

Again: It doesn't matter if Intel line of 14th Gen is worse, equal or better performer.

The thing is that we paid big money for this boards and we expect proper support for the product. There was no EOS (End Of Support/Sale), EOL (End Of Life) announcement for this products from EVGA. So it's reasonably to expect from them they will support the product and provide updates for BIOS that they still SELL!

Agree on that point - I have the Z790 Dark Kingpin.

My question about whether it was worth upgrading from 13900 to 14900 was intended as a side point, not whether the BIOS update should or shouldn't happen. :)   Also there may well be more than a few people who purchased the EVGA Z790 more recently and were waiting on the 14900K to come out before using the board.

I totally agree, and as I've pointed out several times SW/FW support was already extremely lacking well before this issue.

...

I didn't pay €1042 for ModRigs, but I did for the Z790 Dark KP, and I expect a minimum of support.

And for the validity or otherwise of RaptorLake-Refresh, again, this is not the question.

it doesn't matter if you agree. I had also made this point, also as a side point lol (because we all agree that better support is expected). They don't want to talk about that here. I guess we'd need a new thread for that discussion about how 14900k is just a binned 13900k.

I guess so. :)  I don't care enough to start a separate thread, it was just a passing thought. Seems to have struck a nerve though, as you apparently also found out, lol.
Peace.

I received the exact same cookie cutter response. Regardless of whether or not the 14th gen "works" (or not) with current bios, we all deserve a proper official bios update to show support for their *current* lineup of products. If that means they need to hire back the bios team for a one-off, then by all means PLEASE do it and get this done ASAP. Maybe one of the members of the forum needs to be elected to CEO to get this done? Joking but not really joking.

This is true^. Especially as it seems that while 14900k/f may technically work (nobody has posted thorough testing yet), the 14700k and others do not work.

Yeah I saw they they stopped selling it.. Also other 3rd party web stores. I assume people would be still buying them along with new Intel 14th Gen CPUs and later discovered it would not work because there is no BIOS updates to support 14th gen of Intel CPUs.

It seems 14th Gen CPU is already working on Z790 with the latest LAST BIOS as per a posting from someone at the overclockers website:

Post is by: Talon2016

Quoted:

14900K up and running fine on my Z690 Dark on current BIOS 2.13.

BIOS recognizes the CPU as 14900K, and clocks and boosting all appear to be working as intended.

They left 6 months ago, 1.15 was a special bios that was made 7 months ago and wasn't certified as a beta bios till the bios team was gone.

What I hate about situation there is like zero transparency and communication on this matter by EVGA to its motherboard customers.
No official statements, no announcements - nothing. EVGA was once really top tier hardware vendor now it just turned into pile of (removed).

your verdict sounds pretty fair and for sure motivating for the few EVGA employees left ... not.
the EVGA Bios developer that you are bothering here might just be busy doing his job, which is coding and testing bios, and not answering requests in a user forum.
he maybe could do this, but he must not.
it's done when it's done, and as it already has been stated by EVGA support, ETA is simply unknown as of now.
your moaning is useless and superfluous.

The coder shouldn't be the one providing a statement or reassurance.  Chris was was willing to provide assurance before.  What changed?  I don't think that the company has collapsed down to only one employee, yet.

It seems like EVGA is using its typical rag-tag team of offshore programmers to provide another solution which will probably half-work.  EVGA created the request and is waiting on the product.

Re: Support for 14th Intel CPUs 2023/10/20 08:14:53 (permalink)
There were reports the entire motherboard team at EVGA Taiwan office was laid-off, which includes probably BIOS engineers. If this is true, then they don't have engineers to provide new updated BIOSes for Z690 and Z790 platforms.  They stopped selling Z790 motherboards after Intel 14th gen was released (I think like next day).

These are the facts here:
  • May 4th -- Beta BIOS 1.15 (Z790 DARK K|NGP|N) <-- never became final release still in BETA this was probably last release from EVGA Taiwan BIOS team.
  • July 6th -- EVGATech_ChrisB: We are working on an updated BIOS to incorporate support for the next generation Intel CPUs on our Z690 and Z790 Motherboards. Once we have more information available it will be posted on our website. https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/3608958  <-- first claim they will support next gen CPUs on Z690 and Z790 motherboards
  • July 7th -- There whole Taiwan offices just walked out on the job including Kingpin. https://www.techpowerup.com/310955/evga-withdraws-from-the-motherboard-market <-- whole Taiwan office quits
  • August 31th -- EVGATech_ChrisB: Yes, I can confirm that we are working on it and as soon as available we will notify everyone on the forums as well.  Thank you for your patience. https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/3611921 <-- still promising new BIOS which will support 14th gen on Z690
  • October 17th -- Intel releases 14th Gen to the market.
  • October 18/19th -- EVGA stops selling Z790 motherboards on 3th party markets like Newegg and Amazon.

Check the link you provided - it updates a bit later in the day and reports the following message from EVGA;

"We saw those message and they are rumors.
Our Taiwan office is still operating and Kingpin is still with EVGA.
EVGA is still doing business and supporting its customers.
Thanks for reaching out."

I just saw Kingpin put this comment on his FB post about running on EVGA boards with 14900k:

This is on 690 DARK with normal room temp ambient watercooling. It's hitting 98-99c under load here on R23, so likely the max of this chip. The Ecores on these cpus seem much improved. Also, it goes without saying that you MUST USE manual settings to get it flying. Currently there still isn't any official bios support for 14th gen, so don't expect "auto" type settings to 100% function correctly on either boards. That being said, It will still OC like a beast if you tweak everything manually.

  • October 18/19th -- EVGA stops selling Z790 motherboards on 3th party markets like Newegg and Amazon.

and i add

ps: for the rest I don't think it makes sense to try to explain how a company should work to a fanboy who has most likely never worked in his life.
edit: just block him like i did, spam problem solved.

I can also add to the list of others who have confirmed 14900K working in Z790 Dark KINGPIN with 1.15 bios. Although the clock speeds are not reading correctly at all, looks like multiplier is accurate. will investigate further over the weekend.

Running not supported CPU by motherboard's BIOS is just ugly. It might work yeah, but it's half ass ugly solution, you don't really know if it will be stable in all scenarios.
