Understanding how sound drivers work with Windows 7 is something I haven't paid much attention to. I've always managed to get the device working, mostly through trial and error, and if it works why try to fix it. I've been having a periodic problem with the sound having a periodic sound time out when watching YouTube videos and sometimes my TV Tuner programming. In most cases a reboot works to fix the problem.

I've recently added a new device the Corsair H2100 wireless headset that uses a USB dongle transmitter. I have been able to switch between my sound card speakers and the wireless headset in the Windows 7 Sound settings.

One thing I've noticed is that when I open the Windows Sound software I seem to have a crap load of options. When doing research on this I've noticed screenshots of others Sound options and they are usually very few.

Below is what my Sound options are, but it seems to me that there must be other drivers installed that are not needed. I run an optical connection between my Creative Recon3D and my Yamaha 5.1 receiver to run my external 5.1 speakers. All thoughts on what is listed below are welcomed.

Looks like you've got the default motherboard audio drivers as well as the Recon 3D drivers.  You can right click and disable all the unused "devices".  That should help.

Thanks Tweaked, I'll do that. Happy Memorial Day

Switching to display port caused my monitors to show up as audio devices.  Which was mildly amusing and mostly annoying.  The other side effect from that was how the Soundblaster Control panel reacted to the switch.

I would also recommend going into BIOS and turning the on board stuff off completely.  Creative drivers can be twitchy at the best of times.  But give them an excuse to conflict with anything and they will happily do so.

Thanks for the tip about the BIOS. I went into the BIOS and found (pic below) and found the HD Audio Controller but left it Enabled. I was a little concerned, based on the WARNING above.

Anyway it got me thinking about the MB sound system. When my computer starts the MB loads audio drivers into the OS, or are they already there? Then I started thinking that the MB sound system was nothing more than a built in sound card. My Recon3D has the driver and control application installed on the OS.

I just downloaded the EVGA P55 SLI PDF and read that the HD Audio Controller should be turned off when using another sound card.

Thanks for getting my mind working.
