I am coming from a X79 Dark with a i7 4930k and am considering upgrading, mostly for the new SSD PCI slot drives. But X99 has been out for awhile and don't want to be buying technology that will no longer be supported soon. (I realize that architects change very quickly and you can never have bragging rights for very long). But I do need an upgrade soon. What I am asking is, is now a good time to upgrade. I have a 980 Hydro Copper for GPU and 2400mhz dominate memory. With a slightly old Toshiba SSD.

True, but how much of a performance increase is it from X79? It's a lot of money to upgrade for what? 10%?

I am considering an upgrade as well. Mainly just to have 4-6 SATA III ports instead of just two. Real bummer my SSD(He's a Peacock) doesn't get a chance to fly.

Maybe just snag a PCI-E RAID/SATA III card.

    CPU - i7 950 @ 4.2GHz 1.375v
    MB - MSI Big Bang X-Power X58
    RAM - 12GB 1600MHz G.Skill Sniper
    GPU - EVGA 980 Ti 1438/3600
    BOOT - Adata SX 900
    SSD - 2x Samsung 850 RAID 0
PSU - Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1200W
    CASE - HAF X
