I'm trying to put together parts to build a new system. I haven't built one in 6 years and everything has changed, of course.
If I were to buy the Z170 FTW motherboard, how compatible is it with either of these SSDs?
SSD 850 EVO M.2 500GB
MZ-N5E500BW

SSD 950 PRO NVMe 512GB
MZ-V5P512BW

I'm thinking about getting the 850 now and perhaps in a couple of years upgrade to the 950 when the price comes down.  Can this board support the full capability of the 950 with the NVMe Read/Write performance at the speeds which Samsung is advertising?

Could I install both SSDs at the same time? I intend to add a large HDD for main storage and a single GPU. The system will primarily be for Lightroom/Photoshop use and video conversions.
Thanks

I can confirm that both drives will work with this motherboard with the latest BIOS update and operate at the advertised speeds. The FTW only has one Key M M.2 socket so you can only use one SSD at a time.

On the subject of Samsung SSDs, does the SM951 nvme M.2 SSD (there's also an AHCI version) work with the Z170 FTW and can it be configured as a cache drive for Intel SRT?

Yes, you would lose SATA ports 4 and 5.

This is why I have not got FTW; classified & (now) classified K is only versions to allow all 6 native sata ports at same time. If m.2 could be used (via pcie) with all 6 sata I would have bought the FTW already.

Can FTW be made to work with its m.2 (via pcie) and have all 6 native sata ports available with a bios update?
