I've updated my bios and to the latest nvidia drivers and I can confirm that this had solved my previous issues with black screen, artifacts and being stuck during boot.

Hey, I just wanted to post here and say that I found a solution that work for my EVGA SC17 1070 Gysnc system without having to reinstall windows.
I didn't take the time to isolate which of these changes was the culprit but I switched the following and then successfully updated windows without a blackscreen.
Power Settings:
Change your power settings to High Performance and then in the screen options set the computer and display to never go to sleep on battery or AC.
Disable "App Readiness":
Open Run prompt via "WinKey + R" and run "msconfig"
Go to services tab
Disable "App Readiness"
Update NVidia graphics:
Open GeForce Experience and check for newer graphics drivers.
When prompted, choose clean install (If there is a driver to update to)
Run Windows Update again:
tada, worked for me now!
I just hope this helps someone out here!

I turned off fastboot and then did a clean install with the latest NVIDIA driver. Problem completely solved and I did not do a bios update. Thanks for the advice about fastboot looks like that was preventing a real reset for a proper clean install. SC17 1070 4k G-Sync

This is a small miracle. I just updated the BIOS on my non-gsync 1070. Beyond happy to report that my machine is back to normal operating. This is a great laptop when working correctly. Thanks to EVGA for getting this done for their customers.

I have the same problem . Even though i did install window from USB . It did not fix the problem. the problem occurs less but i still get black screen whenever i turn on my computer here and there( random/ occasionally but less than before ). you post is right about update will not fix the problem.
1. I have tried to update = did not fix the problem
2. screen turned black whenever i turn on my SC 17.
3. No one ever encouter this problem before but my 3rd problem is . it takes forever for my laptop to load to window. screen turn black for like 5 minutes then i see window. everythign is back to normal once i see window.
4. Format all my drives. Install window 10 again using USB. ( still happens but LESS).
anybody having the same issues please feel free to reply to this thread. HELP out. if Technical support see this. DO SOMETHIGN ABOUT THIS!!!! We all having the same problem.

I agree and disagree. my dell XPS had absolutely no problem. after 5 years. Anyway my dell XPS i use for a different purpose. Not gaming. So you're saying give them a break? Until when? give them a break until your warranty run out and they'll charge you 300$ to repair? NO thanks. Hammer them. let them know that this is a real issue. not just 1-2 customers. Ive contacted customer support. They had no clue. Wasted my time.

I belive this has been solved, jump on EVGA's driver page and download the latest bios for your model. Once I did that the latest nvidia driver worked perfectly.

Damn, can you confirm that the updated Bios version is installed? They're should have been a gysnc and non gsync bios. Additionally when installing the graphics driver go into the advanced/custom installation and select a clean install. Your old drivers may be hanging around.

I'm attempting to update my bios to fix this black screen problem, but I can't find any version past 1.03 in the download section. Is there a different place you guys are getting this update?

Are you referring to the 1.03, as 1.04 no longer exists. I updated my bios to 1.03, the most recent bios update available on EVGA and have the most recent Nvidia driver and I still experience the black screen on start up. Can anyone else comment on their experience? I have just rolled back my graphics driver again to deal with the problem, but it would be nice to be able to receive a graphics driver update at some point...

BIOS version 1.04 is what you wanted. Sorry it's gone. Version 1.05 should be here soon and hopefully that will also have the fix. I would recommend downgrading to the NVIDIA driver which the laptop shipped with and then setting Windows device manager to not update the driver automatically. A recent NVIDIA driver is definitely NOT what you want at this time. https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2780956

BIOS version 1.06 to fix the black screen bug has been released. It seems like they are skipping the spectre/meltdown update for now in order to bring back the black screen fix. https://www.evga.com/support/download/Select Other Products, select Laptop, select part number, and then download and install the version 1.06 update. It seems link for Windows 10 64-bit is missing at this time. For those using Windows 10 64-bit (most people, probably), hopefully the Windows 8/8.1 64-bit works in Windows 10. You should probably contact EVGA to be sure. They look like they are all the same.

Can someone exactly describe the process to booting up into safe mode? I haven't had a working screen in a very long time. I pushed this off a bit as I was out of town. I'd love to actually use this Laptop. All I ever see is a mouse cursor.

How do I or what key should I be depressing? When I power on I only sometimes see the EVGA logo, most times all I see is a black screen and my mouse cursor. Should I press the power button and hit what button to jump into the bios / post screen?

Thanks I found in the FAQ F2 to jump into bios F7 to jump into multi boot options However I have not quite yet had luck to jump into either bios nor boot options. The load time is incredibly fast. I will keep trying since I don't have much choice.

Update:
I was not able to jump into the BIOS screen, I cycled power and would not hit F2 fast enough. .Turns out I was only putting the laptop to sleep.
So I pulled the power plug ... drained the battery.
Then plugged in powered up and sure enough I was able to boot into the bios.
I updated my bios to 1.06 ... and my black screen issue has been completely resolved. I did not have to do any updates with Windows nor did I rebuild, merely updated the bios to the latest version.

i can confirm. i have the 1070 non-gsync and used to get artifact only after a restart, but after the 1.04 BIOS and 390.65 Nvidia driver, no more artifact issue. not sure about you gsync folks, but i hope it goes away for y'all, too
Same for me too, newest bios has fixed the artifact bug when first logging in after a restart.
