UPDATE:
I just updated to the latest nvidia driver and got a black screen again.
Will go back to windows update driver 22.21.13.8205.

I'm creating a new threat because there are now multiple threads describing several sympthoms which I belive to be one problem / solution. I have my SC17 running for two days now and I think I finally fixed it after fighting with it for several days. Credit goes to the guy who first proposed to do a wipe & reinstall.
 
System:
EVGA SC17 1070 G-Sync
 
Sympthoms:
- Windows creator update 1709 hangs with black screen,
- Windows jumps to reset points because of update failures,
- Color artifacts + black screen after EVGA screen at windows startup / wakeup after sleep mode,
 
Fix:
- do a backup 
- download latest win10 media creation 
- create usb win10 installer
- (change boot order to boot from usb)
- install windows 10: DO NOT UPDATE / UPGRADE because it will fail. You need to do a NEW INSTALL. You don't need to format your c: drive though, so this will move the old windows, user and program files folder to "windows.old" folder. Your Windows key will carry over automatically but your programs will be gone.
- after a few restarts and updates you should be good. You can now move your data from windows.old back
 
NOT working fixes I tried: 
- download and install 1709 updates via standalone MS fixes page,
- update windows 10 via media creation tool,
- windows + p / external monitor / disable g-sync or grafics card
 
TLDR: Afaik you need to do a NEW install of windows and reinstall your programs.

What is your Nvidia driver version that you're using?

After installing the latest driver I got black screen again =/ Updated original post

So i just got my laptop and installed all windows updates though the regular windows update tool. Once i restarted i DID get the black screen. I kept hard restarting and eventually got to the desktop after about 4 tries.
 
I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and went back to the windows default, and that seems to have fixed the issue. I am reading in the other thread to go back to the 385.69 drivers. Going to set a restore point and try that now, but are these items related?
 
Right now i have the 1709 update installed and don't have any issues. Is it the nvidia drivers causing the issue or the 1709 update... or both?

I do agree, and I get it sucks. However this is a very new issue with the newest windows update. Which is easy enough to fix with a simple fresh windows install. Give them a break here, and I mean lets be realistic. At $1,400 this computer is a steal. The thing has outstanding build quality, from a reputable company, and you still paid less then the sum of its parts. I'm sure most people who purchased it as part of the sale would have still done so If they new they were going to have to take an extra hour or two to do a fresh install.

Yep. The Nvidia drivers 385.69 worked for me. Guess we just keep an eye out. 

This is my first 24 hours with my new SC17... Great Deal but you need to put some leg work in or just don't update your GPU drivers yet.
 
I got my SC17 to update to the windows 10 - 1709 fall update by creating the USB installation media thing. It kept failing through the windows update thing. I made sure to disconnect from the internet before proceeding with the USB. Once it finished I eventually let windows connect to the internet and download any remaining updates. Upon restarting I got a black screen with just my mouse pointer... Not happy.
 
Pressing the power button was just putting my SC17 to sleep then waking it back up, I couldn't get it to fully shut off, even holding the power button down. I eventually turned it on hit the space bar then put in my sign on password, waited a few minutes then pushed and held the power button for like 5 sec and my PC turned completely off. After turning it on again it loaded with the windows login. First thing I did was control panel - power options - choose what the power buttons do - when I press the power button - both are now set to Shut down.
 
I did a restart and it worked, then I turned the PC off through windows and back on to get hit with the black screen again. Using the power button I turned the PC off and on a few times waiting for it to turn on completely each time until I didn't get a black screen.
 
I read through this thread and have now installed the Nvidia drivers 385.69 (I had let Nvidia install the newest 12/20/17 drivers 388.71 when the PC first turned on). My SC17 is currently working. I still have fast boot enabled and have power cycled it a few times. I also have restarted a few times trough windows... haven't got the black screen yet.

I will update if anything goes bad.

I can't wait for a EVGA to come back from Christmas break and give us some help here!

Stock driver version will upgrade to 1709 without incident. Updating the video driver before upgrading will cause the upgrade process to fail.
Updating the driver after upgrading Windows introduces the problem of artifacts on boot and literally every other boot ending up with a black screen.
 
On a new install of Windows 10 using 1709 media with the latest video driver, every other boot has a black screen on logon and artifacts while initializing.
The only thing I've found that relieves the issue of artifacts and failed boots on the newest driver and Windows build is setting the resolution to 640x480 before the next boot.
 
This is not just an inconvenience, it is putting people at risk of data loss due to the need to forcefully power down the laptop on every other boot - especially if they're using the supplied mechanical drive. I understand the fault may be that of Microsoft and NVIDIA, rather than EVGA, but this still needs to be addressed.
 
 
P.S. the backlight bleed on the corners of the screen is AWFUL for a product that MSRP's at $2799.99. I will be putting in a ticket for that... hope it's not to be expected.

I managed to get back innnn...

When I turned it on, I press F7 to enter the boot option, chose Samsung boot (1st option) & while it load I just press space bar endlessly (desperate attempt).

Somehow it worked. Doing system restore now and hopefully

i have the non-gsync version, and i experience some artifacting.  however, i noticed that it only happens on a restart.  i let windows update everything--on 1709 creators, 382.05 nvidia, 1.03 bios (hugely reduced fan noise).  hopefully, it's a windows/nvidia thing and it gets fixed soon.

read the other posts that suggest possible solutions.  i'd do a refresh install of windows 1709 w/the media creation tool and not update the gpu past 382.05 until a stable driver is issued

Read what the OP and I wrote. I managed to fix it.

No need to reinstall os or anything hard. Basically just roll back Nvidia Driver to the older version.

Yeah its only a little better. From a cold boot you still get artifacts and a black screen the first time you try to get into windows.
 
So far the second boot or a warm boot to windows works. 

I have bad news.  KB4033393 which was released a couple of days ago causes the same BSOD error even after a complete system wipe.  So, if you went through the trouble of doing a complete reinstall, that won't fix the new problems introduced in that last patch (and I am worried about the patch in Enterprise testing for the published issues).  I actually had checkpointed before KB4032695.  KB4032695 seems to be the one that causes the BSOD error that required the complete wipe.  There's definitely a Microsoft component to this, but I cannot tell whether or not this is also an Nvidia interaction or an EVGA one.  I did not get the same fix from rolling back the Nvidia driver.
