Hey all, quick question:

I repasted my 3080 ftw3 ultra with some tg kryonaut when I first got it. I ended up using thermal pads on the chokes since it seemed like the thermal putty was coming apart and couldn't be reused. They're making contact just fine.

I have to send the card in for an RMA now and I'm wondering if it's fine to send it in with the pads, or does EVGA require us to buy replacement thermal putty and reapply it to the chokes before sending it in? I would like to avoid any hiccups with the process. I tried asking EVGA directly, but the response wasn't fully clear (or maybe my question wasn't) so I figured I'd ask here for input.

If we do need to replace it and pads are not okay, where does one get replacement putty?I haven't personally used it before and not sure what to look for.

Don’t take my word for it, email support@evga.com and find out from EVGA directly, but I would assume that as long as you have pads on there, you should be fine.

Whats the RMA for? Did you ever take it back apart and see if you were making good contact with the pads?

Coil whine that got worse over the past few weeks - it's the loudest I've ever had it on a card and I can hear it over my headset. I double checked and the pads were making an imprint.

I imagine that your good then. Here's another thread where we were talking about the putty if you decide to go that route. https://forums.evga.com/T...C3-Ultra-m3148054.aspx

Thanks for the link - I see that putty is a bit more expensive compared to thermal paste. Will post an update once I get a response from support@evga.com

You bet, let us know here in this thread what EVGA supports says about it. It would be helpful to know how they will treat RMA's that come in with pads on them.

I heard back from EVGA support- they said it's fine to ship it back with thermal pads as long as there is no damage, which is good to hear.

Sweet, thanks for confirming that for us. Very nice to know we can just go with pads, so much less of a hassle.

Nothing worse (besides dead) than screeching cool whine. I have open-back headphones, so I would hear that mess.
