Hello, I'm considering to repaste and change the thermal putty on the 3080ti FTW3.
Anyone knows if i can clean up the thermal putty and use thermal pads or thermal paste instead ? Also, if i were to use thermal pads, what would be the thickness ?

Steve at Gamers Nexus does a full tear down f the EVGA 3080. Fairly straight forward tear down and goes over the thermal pads and pastes you can safely use to replace/repaste. Since he works directly with EVGA folks for such videos i would take a look and get all the needed info before you even start.  Cheers!

Out of curiosity - why? Of the several 3000-series cards (various brands) I have had, the EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra runs the coolest.

I have only worked with series 3k Nvidia cards from these manufacturers, MSI, Gigabyte, Asus and EVGA. Would again reference Gamer Nexus or similar, tear downs so you can see for oneself. Many of the other brands use a hard plastic backplate (Asus for example) and not as ample cooling in comparison to EVGA who makes use of PCB venting, large diameter heat tubes, higher quality copper plates and fans(as well as typical ease of access for upgrading paste or thermal pads). This can cause some of these midrange and upper end variations show various stock and under load Temperatures that can be on average higher but within normal operating specifications for its use. I personally run with a EVGA cards (3060Ti, 3070Ti, 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra) for my own use because the warranty and general quality as well as when mistakes happen they typically own up and make it right for the customer. That doesn't mean you will have a bad experience with the others i have worked with it is just my own experience that they provide top notch customer service when compared to others. The point about a few degrees cooler should not be overlooked. As with all electronics the cooler they run the longer they last longer on average. Contracts and cost are typically major factors in why any company uses the methods they do for building a product they sell that includes the materials they employ in that process.
