Wanted to +1 but can't seem to find your rig anywhere inside modsrigs? :)

I wanted to do the underboard lights, but the stribe i had (blue one in my modsrigs), was too thick since it was using normal LED's..
Great work though,

Thank you, and there is no ModsRigs page yet. I don't make one until it's complete and I can run benches on it. I'd like to think that won't be very long. But I know it won't be any time soon.

Hey Seth, no I didn't do the window. It was one of the first things done to the case, and I was too chicken to do it. So I had Performance-PC's do it. They did a great job, and I'm very happy with it.

Well unfortunately a serious lack of extra income has brought this project to a complete halt. I'm actually getting ready to put the case back in the box to make sure it doesn't get hurt while I wait on money for parts. Still need GPU's and blocks, PSU, and a handful of fittings to get it up and running.

Working on FINALLY finishing this. Got some different hardware for it thanks to the 9 days of X99 promotion from EVGA. Here's a little sneak peek.

Did some work last night. Finished mounting the other 2 GPU water blocks and back plates, and started running tubing. Liking things so far, but a couple of my C48 fittings for the crystal link tubing were left out of my order. So I'm waiting for them to get here. Also ordered a couple more things from Performance PC's today so they should all come in one package hopefully by Saturday. Here's some pics of my progress.

Hoping to be up and running Sunday.

Looking great bud, I like the paintwork you did. especially the rads. Is that fitting going to interfere with your front 5.25 bays? I like that case ,my Son has a build in one. The GPU sammaich is great looking with the SLI bridge.

Thanks. I don't really use my 5.25 bays other than whats there so I'm not worried. Heck, I think I'm going to remove the fan controller anyway. I'm running all the fans off of the 4 pin molex connectors with a PCB splitter. And they're not that loud so I'm not worried. I think I'd like to take the SLI bridge apart and pain the stainless part red like the case. I think that would look cool.

Went to fill the loop last night and had a small problem. The front plate on the reservoir didnt seal properly when Alphacool assembled it. Problem is I've had this reservoir for almost 2 years, so I'm sure warranty is gone. So i opened it up and resealed it. It's leak tested all day so far and no leaks now. Also didnt think about it, but Ive got the 1000w G PSU which doesnt use a 1 to 1 pinout on the PSU. And it uses a 24+4 connector at the PSU. I bought a set of the EVGA single sleeve cables without taking this into consideration so now ive got to do some repinning and add another connector in.

Well I resealed and leak tested the reservoir most of yesterday and didn't see another drop of water. I didn't get much else done, but I did start on some cables and I did take a shot with the side panel on and illuminated.

For some reason when I use the flash it makes the paint look orange. But the colors of the cables and the paint on the case really aren't that different.

Red Hawk (updated 5-11-16) 2016/05/11 16:17:13 (permalink)
Well it's been a year and a half since I've updated this thread. The 760's used in the build served me well. But after the 900 series launched I changed over to a set of 3 970FTW's. The only major changes were the GPU's and the PSU. I wasn't sure that the 1000w G1 was going to be enough after OCing the GPU's and CPU. So out with the 1000W and in with a shiny new 1300W PSU. The water blocks on the 760's fit the 970FTW's so no upgrade was needed there. Well that tied me over for about a year until the upgrade bug bit me again. This time I blame Scarlet-Tech. I sold the 970's of which one went to him and I was running a single 960 on air. I had planned to wait for the 1080 launch, but with a great deal he made me I bought 3 780/780Ti Classified hydro copper blocks modded to fit the 980Ti Classifieds. So I found a great deal on 1 in the market place. I was going install it and then pick up the other two after 1080 launch when they were going much cheaper. The problem with that is I'm not a very patient person lol. I decided to run to Micro-center and pickled up two more to fill all of my water blocks. Also with 3 classy's I had run out of 8 pin PCI'e power connectors with 6, 8 pins needed for GPU's, and 1 6 pin needed for supplemental PCI-e power. Not to mention the possibility of needing 2 more 8 pins if I get a 4th card. So I now have a 1600w G2 PSU running things lol. And the last thing I did was change up the loop. The double stacked radiators worked without a problem. But with the heat of the massive 980Ti Classified blocks dumping onto the loop I decided to split the pair of 280mm rads in the front. One is still up there and the 2nd is now outside the case on the back. If I had the money I would have picked up a Monsta rad for the front, but it wasn't in the cards at this time. And depending on whats available for step up I might turn 2 of the classifieds in for some 1080's. But for now I'm loving the Classified's. Here are some pics from my upgrade.

Old setup with the 970's and 1300w G2:

Classified testing on air:

Old radiator setup removed to split and also clean:

First 980Ti Classified all waterblocked up:

All 3 installed and plummed:

I don't like that the GPU's say 780/780Ti Classified so I removed the covers:

At some point I am going to repaint them to get rid of the lettering. Then they will say EVGA only in the center.

All setup and ready to fill:

Had a lot of cleaning. Spent probably 30 minutes blowing the rads and filters out. And then spent another 45 minutes or so getting the pumps to prime and the loop to bleed. It's now almost whisper quiet compared to the 3 massive classified coolers at 100% fan. Also temps on the GPU's dropped from mid 70's to low 80's folding to 50C folding on the hottest card. Also got lucky on 1 card that had an ASIC of 81.5%. The other two are 74's. The 81 boosts to 1447 out of the box and the other two are at 1417. I've ran a couple benches and scored 25K on firestrike in 2 way SLI. But for some reason 3 way is only getting me to 27K which is more than aggravating. One of these day's I will sit down and try to figure that out. But for now I'm happy gaming with all settings on high and being able to crank out 1.8 to 2.2 million PPD depending on the work units.

Well I finished up the last little thing I wanted to do on this upgrade. As I said in my previous post the water blocks were from 780/780Ti Classified blocks and that's what the side of the blocks said. Well the plates simply unscrew, and a little bit of elbow grease and some paint later they no longer mis-identify the cards. Well at least on the parts you can see lol.

Before:

After:

I got a little lazy and didn't take it all the way down to bare metal. And because of that if you catch the view just right, you can see what it used to say. But 99% of the time you'll never see it. But for now I'm done with it and I'm up and running.

Thanks for looking.

Thank you RJ. Still waiting on 1080 GPU's to release and see what they are really capable of. I may still step up the two cards that I can step up. But that all depends on what the benches and power usage numbers say.
