Hello All, Ever since I installed my RTX3090 XC3 Ultra, I have been experiencing random black screen crashes whenever I am watching videos, doing web browsing or being idle at desktop. According to event viewer, these happened because the display driver stopped responding and successfully recovered. These crashes never occurred when I had games running. I have seen some users reporting these crashes here and at the Nvidia site. I came across with a fellow with the same problem and helped me work around it. I have not experienced any black screen crashes since. He recommended to do the following. -Open Nvidia Control Panel and enable Debug mode under the Help tab. -Open Nvidia Control Panel, go to Manage 3D settings, under Global Settings enable "Prefer maximum performance" in Power management mode. It may not work for everyone but I think it is worth a try. Below are some additional settings and info you may want to know. -No GPU overclock (with the above settings on, GPU & Memory clock are at 1695MHz and 9751MHz respectively at all times) -No CPU overclock -Nvidia Driver Version: 456.71 -Evga 750 supernova G3 -G-sync enabled monitor I hope this helps.

I'm having the same issue, just enabled these settings will return with an update if it doesn't resolve. Update 1: Tried turning off Debugging ("prefer maximum power" still enabled) so that i could set a more aggressive fan curve, but the black screen effect came back...

So I've tried adaptive and so far so good. And i've also disabled Gsync. If it still blacks out I will update here. I don't really want to stay on prefer maximum performance as that constantly keeps the gpu at 60 degrees and using unnecessary power. Adaptive is a good middle ground.

So on this same note - with both debug and maximum power both enabled i've hit another weird snag. I've got two monitors - both 1440p one 60hz, the other 165hz. If i turn one of them off using their buttons on the bezel and then turn them back on the video output seizes up and im just stuck without video output until i restart the system. Going to try and clean out all video drivers and do a reinstall... but definitely not pleased with this performance so far :( EDIT: Fresh install finished, same issues persisting above - Restarting the video driver fixes it though - Shortcut Win+Ctrl+Shift+B

Anyone know if this is a hardware problem or drivers? I just installed a 3090 FTW 3 ULTRA and started getting this. It only happens when watching videos on YouTube. It alaso happened a couple times while starting a Zoom call. During games everything's perfectly fine. I uninstalled the latest drivers and went back to 456.71. Nothing's happened...yet.

Just wanted to post an update on this. I recently upgraded from a 7700k, on which I was having these issues, to a 10600k and also reinstalled Windows 10. I am no longer experiencing these issues as of yet even on optimal power mode. I don't know if the new cpu has helped with it or the re installation of windows.

My card JUST died. Shut off during a game and now I'm getting a red light near left PCIe cable. Card doesn't turn on anymore. Oh well. RMA'ing now...

Damn that sucks, hopefully you get a replacement soon. Did you have all 3 individual pcie cables hooked up to it or were you running splitters?

I was using 3 separate cables. I have a Corsair HX1000i so i hope that wasn't the problem. I got my 2080 back in. All good for now. Sucks it happened at this time. I have to wait until tomorrow to talk to tech support so I can get a support ticket # to finish the RMA form.

Thanks. I hope so too. Hopefully they have some to send out, lol. The store where I bought mine had several. In total they had around 30 of them spread across their 4 stores.

First my store did a raffle because they only had a few. Then somehow they got A LOT more and sent out an email saying you can order online and pick up in store. Now they're only doing in-store purchases.

Same issue here running Predator X34 and LG C9 @ 4k120. Gsync enabled on both.

FYI you will get that BSOD if you have your fan curve set to anything besides Auto in Precision X1 or MSI Afterburner. You can change the fan curve before you launch a game and it'll be fine, but if you let your computer go to sleep or hibernate when it's not set to Auto, it will BSOD with a nvlddmkm error, so remember to set it back to auto. It's a driver bug

Chiming in that I'm also experiencing a similar issue, and changing the power management has seemingly worked for now. I wouldn't consider this a long term solution though since power is being needlessly wasted. GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 XC3 ULTRA GAMING PSU: EVGA Supernova 650 P2 Just from reading around it seems many of us also have Supernova PSUs.

I use Firefox and was experiencing similar issues. I disabled hardware acceleration in the options and the problem seemed to have gone away. It previously triggered when switching to tabs with video playing (e.g. Twitch).

Having the same issue on my gigabyte 3080, never crashes if im playing games but I get the random black screen after playing video for a while. Setting power mode to 'prefer maximum performance' fixes it but i'd rather not have my gpu eating 100watts 24/7... Hope someone finds a better fix since getting a replacement card is going to take forever.

Another black screen, now in-game, even with "prefer maximum performance", this is frustrating, as I didn’t expect a headache with such an expensive product.

I don't know if it's the exact same issue, but my Gigabyte Gaming 3090 OC started getting black screens while playing games, with GPU fans starting to blast att 100%. I handed it in for RMA a couple of days ago.

well latest drivers didnt help, trying adaptive and disabling pcie link state power management. just random driver reset and reboot issues, typically while surfing the web.
