I recently made the upgrade from a GTX970 Strix card to the EVGA 3060 XC My issue is that when the fans kick on it makes a strange noise like somone just quickly flicked one of those springy door stops. It's super annoying and I hear it over videos I listen to whilst working. I actually thought it was my upstairs neighbors making noise but since realized a pattern and confirmed it makes a noise each time the cards fans spin up. Looking through the forum I noted people suggesting installing Precision X1 which I have and the problem persists. I'm using 3D editing software so my GPU is in use off and on and I hear that fan startup constantly again and again while doing anything. I'm used to my old Strix card having idle fans that would kick on while temps go up but it was dead silent. New fans are made poorly or something or is my card just broken? I could run the fans constant? or should I be worried about the cards longevity? I could too record the sound perhaps and post it here if that'd help somehow.

I have the same kind of issue. The fan makes a grinding like noise whenever it turns on.

I am waiting for this model of graphics card. I wonder if there will be many fan problems? Or it is only a case.

I have had this card for a few weeks and have no such issues. Mine is cool and quiet. So I wouldn't be alarmed that it is a problem with them all. Clearly it is not. peace wanna

Same here. It's doing the exact same noise that you described

Same problem here as soon my card hits 57C. Seems like bios isn't configured correctly for fan stop feature as unlike any other cards i had before that keep fan running for 10-20 sec to cool card down the EVGA 3060 only spins for 1 sec so it will try to "cool" card shortly again. For now i using custom fan curve in PX1 that keeps fan spinning at 13% for idle temps (Lowest % that fan starts on).

Mine is doing the same thing. The fans alternate one at a time on and off at low load and one of them is making a sort of grinding, but not actual grinding, sound on start up. Seems like the sound a bad motor or inadequate power delivery to that one fan would be caused by at startup in my experience with electric motors. Either one can cause premature failure eventually if run in that way. My 3060 ti doesn't do this but the 3060 does. With Precision x1 I can set the fan to run constant but that's not how the card should act and doesn't solve the actual problem if a fan is defective and may fail prematurely. I think I'm going to contact EVGA directly.

Mine is the fan near the display ports too. I already RMAed it yesterday. One nice thing is EVGA seem to take warranty service seriously, which is one of the reasons I buy from them. Doesn't seem to be a widespread problem so hopefully the replacement will work good.

https: //imgur.com/a/gB1pJ1T Had the same issue. RMA'd it and the replacement still has grinding fans, but at more frequent and shorter intervals, it only seems to happen when idle. Not buying evga again.

I have the same issue with my 3060 XC but in my case both of fans are doing that strange noise when they kick on. With Precision x1 I have set them to run both on 13%.

I just got mine Monday and it is doing the same thing. Left fan starts and stops randomly and makes a noise when it kicks on, about every 30 seconds or so. I think I'm going to RMA tomorrow.

UPDATE: I finally got my replacement 3060 installed. They shipped me a new one and it doesn't make the noise like the other. It might have a different fan profile because it usually seems to run or not run most of the time now, in stead of turning the fans on and off frequently every second or few seconds. If any issues arise with mine I will make another update but so far it seems the issue is resolved, at least in my case.

I've had my 3060 XC for almost 6 months now and no strange fan noises. Chances are mechanical problems will not work themselves out so it's a good thing you returned yours and have a good working one now. For anyone else it is possible there was a bad batch of fans at one point and considering EVGA's warranty I would just let them handle it--don't need to live with a bad/noisy fan IMO.

I just got the 3060 Ti XC and on the 2nd day I noticed the noise. At idle without the fans running when the card (slowly) hits ~43C it will kick on the fans every few seconds. Annoying! and bad for the fans and controller? My case fans run low at idle to keep noise down but I guess it's not enough to keep the card cool enough at idle. Now having to run Precision X1 so the fans run @ 15% at idle. Annoying!

This is exactly what mine is doing. How's the new card holding up? Was the RMA process easy?

That sounds like faulty fans with bad bearings (if the sound persisted at low or high fan speed). It can also be the motor itself engaging from a cold startup. If the sound IS the fan motor itself, then that's absolutely a manufacturing defect or a lack of internal lubrication. Did you get this fixed?

This sounds like the same issue we're having with the 3070ti and 3080ti. Tech support said it was a firmware issue with one of the motor controllers, but they havent had the time to fix it. If it is the same issue, then RMA will not solve the problem and we all just have to wait. Hi. I bought a RTX 3070 ti FTW3 Ultra and i was having a clicking noise from the 3rd fan. The starts to click and making a reving sound like it was accelerating and immediately decelerating in a constant loop. Apparently this happens when this fan is allowed to vary its speed speed between 0 and 40%. I solved the problem using this curve with these settings in MSI Afterburner. Precision X1 didn't work for me. If this is your problem try these settings to see it if solves anything.

Make sure everything is screwed in properly and check if there is something inside the graphics card.

Just went online searching for why my 3060 TI XC was making the same exact noise as described and found this thread. It seems to only happens at low RPMs for me. I've noticed if I set the GPU fans to manual and ramp them all the way up to 100% and then set it back to BIOS controlled or a fan curve, the noise goes away for as long as I keep my PC on. I was tempted to look into an RMA, but as someone mentioned above, it sounds like it's a firmware issue? I can live with it for now if EVGA plans on having a fix. If anyone has any updates or anyone from EVGA could respond, that'd be awesome! Thanks!

Also, FWIW, I only started experiencing the fan noise after I switched from an NZXT H1 case (GPU mounted vertically), to a Phanteks P200a case where the GPU is mounted in the traditional horizontal position.

Probably niche, but if you're having this issue and you're a linux user like me looking to sidestep this issue with manual fan control, I wrote a python script to do just that: github.com/Pecon/simplefancontrol-nvidia-linux
